Narrowboat Emergency Evacuated - Red Flood Alert - River Avon - Apr 2023 Part 3 of 3

- In this episode of our mini-series about our Narrowboat Changing Pace during a red flood alert, I, Louise, start my day early, only to find that the gangplank on land is starting to go underwater, leaving me worried about getting the dogs off the boat. With little sleep, Dave arrives, and we start to bridge the gap between the boat and the top of the embankment, where the flooded River Avon water levels have reached and appear to be lapping in an almost mocking manner.
As we try to execute our first plan, the Avon Navigation Trust takes the decision to call the fire brigade. They respond extremely swiftly, thinking someone's life is in danger, and I get the feeling that they think I am making a mountain out of a molehill, even though I didn't call them. The video continues, and ultimately, while I wanted the dogs off and on land safe with Dave, I also wanted to stay onboard our floating home, with everything we own, to ensure its safety. However, that decision was taken out of my hands, and I was evicted for my safety off Narrowboat Changing Pace, which had reached the top of the flood poles.

This is a real education in the dangers of boating, particularly on rivers. This should be part of a CRT training video about how quickly conditions on a river can change and the dangers it can bring. Great video.
We really did try to manage this extremely stressful situation on our own but was extremely grateful for the assistance of the Avon Trust and the Fire Brigade. As you say the conditions change so quickly on the Rivers,
Thank goodness everyone and the pups are all safe. I hope you are fairing okay, with Oct. 2023 Storm Babet, that one just looks really nasty. Stay safe. 🙏🙏
Everyone including me is always like “save the dog” 🐾 🥰Having already been bitten 😬 by flooding we did some pretty long, hard days to get off the River 🌊 for Storm Babet 2023. Waters have risen slightly but we are gangplank good. 👍. Thanks 🙏 for watching 👀 and commenting ✍️
Unbelievable, i hope you and the dogs have recovered from your ordeal, I've no doubt Dave has 😂 The rescue services were brilliant, thank god for them.
Thank you, Raymond! It was indeed an unbelievable experience. We're all recovering well, including the dogs. And yes, Dave seems to have bounced back quickly! 😂👍 We're extremely grateful for the incredible work of the rescue services who helped us during this challenging time. They truly are heroes. 🙌🚒👏
Oh my word how stressful. Hope all is ok now and your all reunited. Thank you for blogging when under so much stress as it is so important to learn these things. Wishing you all the best ❤❤❤❤

Oh no guys. Hoping you’re soon back on the boat Louise. ❤❤
Thank you, I really didn't want to come off, but for safety I had too. The vlog about our return home, is on our channel - I was really anxious about Narrowboat Changing Pace not being safe if we left her alone. Thanks for watching and commenting
First time I've watched your channel subscribed you are telling how it is thanks
I think at times we might be too honest, 📣but we are who we are. Thank you for watching and commenting 🙏 it’s so nice to know whose out there. 🥰
Hi Louise what a stressful few days you have had, glad to hear that it has worked out ok. I hope that you are now recovering from your ordeal and reunited with your lovely dogs. Hopefully no more rain, I think we’ve had enough for now.
Thank you, Marge, for your understanding and support. 🙏 It has indeed been a stressful few days, but we're grateful that everything has worked out okay. 😊 Our dogs were with us throughout the ordeal, as they came to stay with us at Mum's. We're happy to have them by our side during this time. 🐶🏠 Let's hope for some dry days ahead and no more rain for a while. We've definitely had our fair share! 🌦️🌈 Thank you for your kind words and well wishes. Muck love 💕
@@NarrowboatChangingPace louise and david my love and good wishes to you both as you try to recover from your ordeal aoife ex nb buffalo
I hope all is ok now and send you my best wishes. A really moving story. I think you were so brave in such a terrifying situation. Putting up the gangplank setup well in advance well thought out.
Ah, thank you for your well wishes and kind words🙏. We're relieved to say that we're all safe now. The experience was quite terrifying😳. It was actually our second time facing a flood on the River Avon. We had encountered it once before. Unfortunately, this time around, we reached a point where there was simply no higher ground left to secure the gangplank 🪜. It was a challenging situation, but we managed to get through it. Thank you again for your support 🥰
Glad your all safe, I assume you back on the boat now and all good?
Thank you, Steve, for your concern. We are all safe and back on our floating home. It's a relief to be back and continuing our journey on Narrowboat Changing Pace. Thank you for your support and for checking in on us! Stay well! 😊🚤
ow sweet i would help u and put u up with the dogs , i think im to far away , wished i was closer to help u out
Thank you, Kelly, for your kind offer and support. 🙏 We truly appreciate your willingness to help and accommodate us and our dogs. 🐾 It means a lot to know that there are caring people like you out there. Even though you may be far away, your kind words and thoughts are a source of comfort to us. 🌟 Thank you for being there, even from a distance. Take care! 💕🏠🌈😊
@@NarrowboatChangingPace u r more then welcome hunnie just wished i was closer to u to helpxx
I would have spent an uncomfortable night in the car. At least you could've made hourly checks on the boat.
I, Louise, was completely emotional exhausted. We were guided by the Avon Trust and we had to think about the dogs as well, we didn’t take their food off and I started to panic when they said I had to leave the boat as well. Great point though, maybe we should have done.
Eviction, don't you mean evacuation?😂
That is exactly what I should have said. However my only excuse is the wellies versus Willies conversation in the returning home vlog

😉
Wow some people are a liability
What's a treenes 😂
Thank you for your comment! 🙏 It's true that perfection may be currently 'allooding' us 🌊💦, but amidst the challenges, we're finding beauty and resilience. 🌟 And as for 'treenes,' 🌳🌲 it's trees with an extra dose of 'ness' to them. 🌿✨ It's all part of embracing the unique experiences that come with living on a narrowboat. ⛵️ We truly appreciate your support! 😊🙌
Do you surely mean evacuated, not eviction!
Oops - yep your right. Evacuated would have been better 👍
Why don't you guys have a dinghy ?
Great question👍, but honestly we've never needed one - I know!! hindsight. 😯
Why didn’t you cut your barge pole in half ????
or break off some some wood, and stick it in the two secured steel tubes,
at the side of the boat ??
Buying you another 3 or 4 foot !! Or even more 😜
With speed of the water rising and the Avon trust wanting us to leave the boat we didn't have much time for making plans along those lines.
Our priority was to get the dogs off the boat and to safety. Unfortunately all decisions were taken out of our hands by the rescue services and the Avon Trust. Louise wanted to stay aboard and work the ropes as the levels rose, but it was deemed too dangerous.
Thanks for your suggestion and it may be an option if we are ever in that situation again.
