      The video looked pretty good in DeoVR video player, once I set it to 180 Lat /Long in the lens profile. Motion on your hands seems like it might be an issue as there was some ghosting, hard to know if that's due to the source, or playback software, or my headset!
      But it looks like it'd be OK for static cameras and slow movement probably. Focus was always good though!
      Unfortunately I was unable to even get the video onto the timeline of Vegas movie studio 2022, so it seems like it'd be a problem for me to edit 3d video using my current software! Even after it asked me to install Quicktime it still didn't work for me. Maybe this uses codecs I just don't have!

    My first RUclips Post Ever:
    Since I already own the Canon R5, I would have to see the Calf vs Canon RF5.2 Dual VR Lens video.
    But you don't seem to be doing technical videos much these days. I really miss your technical videos, where you used actual measurement software tools to test and compare products. Anyone can do a podcast, but almost no one was performing actual tests so that people could understand EXACTLY what the specs are, and not what the company's marketing department says there are, and not just some vague interpretation of it with language, such as "it has a wider FOV than this product". That could mean anything from a little wider, to human FOV wider. The tests that you performed were not vague ideas, they were scientific knowledge. MRTV, you're starting to lose me with quantity of videos rather than quality of videos.
    Additionally, it would be nice to see some basic tutorials from you. For example, how to set up your computer for the best VR experience. You could talk about physical connections, space, windows settings, steam settings, virtual desktop setttings, and kind of be the person everyone always goes to when they are starting up in VR (which is going to become a much bigger thing now that Apple is involved and the business/consumer world sees the devices as useful instead of when Meta was in charge and they seemed gimmicky. You could do a video for each new headset, for optimization, and people would flock to your channel for that as well. It's this good sense of business that you have that I want to see you rediscover and expand. Every headset should get 4 videos. Announcement, Unboxing, Review (with tests!), and Optimization. This will make your channel the *ONLY* place to go for knowledge about Virtual Reality.

    • @Insomn

      Hugh Hou did that comparison video. The Calf did surprisingly well by comparison. It boiled down to Calf being way easier to use, and while Canon is better quality, if you dont have your shot in focus or you dont know what you're doing, your results may vary. 8k60fps on Canon is a massive pain, so having a camera that can at least do 6k50FPS with no hassle whatsoever, makes it a good camera to keep in reserve.

    • @TJM-2023
      @TJM-2023 Год назад +4

      @@Insomn Well, I think Hugh did us a disservice here. The Calf has a 1/2.3 inch SONY IMX577 12.3mp sensor. That's 6.16x4.62 vs. Canon's 36x24 Full Frame sensor. That equates to 28.46 Sq mm vs 864 sq mm.
      This tells us two things. #1: The Calf can shoot everything in focus because of f/stop equivalence. With f/2 on the Calf, it is like shooting f/5.6 on the Canon. Therefore, the Canon, which can shoot a true f/2.8 has 3 stops of light available to it more than the Calf, simply based on the sensor-size alone. #2: Your remark about "don't know what you're doing applies to Hugh Hou's video, because he is trying to compare a true f/2.8 on the Canon to a false f/2 on the Calf, which is actually f/5.6 in full-frame equivalence.
      Additionally, because of the larger sensor on the Canon, the ISO gain can be ramped up far more than the tiny sensor on the Calf. Therefore, in low light, such as indoor lighting, the Canon will be able to do circles around the Calf in such situations. Imagine a sunset scene = Canon wins, Every time!
      Also, as a filmmaker, focus pulling on the canon is not that difficult and it produces a beautiful slowly changing focus until it hits the mark. That is why you would actually want to use f/2.8 or f/3.5, in order to purposefully move focus during the video. If you don't need that, the Canon has massive f/stop and ISO range. LensProToGo has a video on the Canon Lens and he's holding a stick in front of him while walking and everything from the stick to the horizon is in focus. So, if you want infinite focus, that's also available on the Canon.
      All that said, the Calf software appears to be much easier to use than Canon's awkward proprietary software. If Canon had an adobe plugin, then that would make life easier. But it doesn't and the software is slow and clunky.
      All that to say, lens aside, I think you're really paying for the software for the Calf. That sensor is like a beginner's digital camera. My smartphone's sensor is closer in size to the Calf than the Canon!!! It's a very small sensor. It's made to be used by anyone, but the price is very high for such a tiny little sensor. So, mostly you're paying for the software.

      @@tarasshevchenko8917 VR180 3D is by far the best format for media consumption in VR. You can sit in a comfortable chair and experience concerts while being on stage with the performers. @@BlueHound 100% agree. Since 2018 I've been following VR180's evolution (not as speedy as I hoped, but that's actually better), both as a consumer and as content producer/creator. It is indeed a very comfortable experience for the audience, a much more efficient way of producing VR video content (and I do both, 180 and 360). Every time I showed VR180 to people, they're amazed. I'm also excited as we are able to re-structure the filming vocabulary (though, not as drastic as VR360). It will take off...it's just a matter of time.
      And...as you said, it's the closest we can come to experiencing a 'real, life-performing' event and even closer, by having unique vantage points. I'm looking forward to continue producing more VR180 content, as well as seeing what fellow creators do with this format! 🔥

    It's probably worth talking about the top & bottom, left and right cutouts. The cutouts on the left and right is because the camera can see the lens to the left and right, and this would look weird in VR. The top and bottom is probably just their way of using as much of the CMOS sensor as possible. In order to fit a circular image into a rectangular sensor, they have to loose some image or a lot of sensor. They lost some image.

    • @Calico3D

    Professional with 1/2.3" sensors is kinda a joke, especially if they are trying to get 6k from them.. pretty much impossible with any lens on this planet, pixels are just too small. With insane amount of light and 1k industrial lens you can maybe get 4k, but it won't look that amazing and with 180 degree lenses you cant get close to that level performance.

      @@Insomn Yeah, i did check them out.. and they look exactly what i would expect from 1/2.3 sensors. A lot of post processing and sharpening, poor color quality. You just cant get much out of sensor like those, not even phones use that small sensors any more. Only webcams use those anymore, even gopro finally moved to a larger sensor few generations ago.
      It would have not been much more expensive to go with 1/2 or 1/1.7 sensors at least, and not try to get 6k out of those for hype.
      I can get pair of 1/2.3" sensors and pair of 180 fisheyes for like 100$ that i can just plug directly into my phone. I get this is integrates solution, software and all that.. but at 1.3k.. a lot for what it is.

I just watched a dozen different examples of ZCam K1 Pro footage in my headset and didn't find one that looked better than Calf. So maybe it has bigger sensors, and no blind spot- but it still looks like dogshit for a $3000 camera. And it was $3000 4 years ago, too. So what gives? Do we just have denser sensors now or is the k1 only using a small part of the sensor? I think it's just that 4 years ago we didn't have 4k headsets, so the video that came off the K1 looked just as bad as everything else, but now we have crystal clear headsets and it just doesnt fly anymore. Maybe it has a better dynamic range but that's not enough to sell me on it when the footage is objectively bad in VR. Calf videos look really decent, especially for the money. Nothing else matters. It could have a 1/4" sensor and I wouldn't care because I can look at the video and tell that it's good with my own eyes.

    @Insomn Год назад +6

    2 quick things-
    To get $1399, you need to pledge TODAY, right now. Tomorrow it will go up to $1499.
    VR180 is fantastic and immersive, but Apple Vision is different. If you pay close attention to their trailers, you will see that they are taking 6dof video. So the difference between this and a VR180 video is that in a 6dof scene you can move and see around corners to an extent, and watch the scene change based on your perspective. VR180 is much simpler, as you can look around and pivot your head, but you cant move from side to side, back and fourth, or up and down. Plus Apple's Spatial video IS NOT 180 degree. It will be like a 50x50 degree square. So if you want to be fully immersed- VR180 is what you need. Now, how is apple doing this? Probably a type of AI running NeRF using the multiple cameras and Lidar from the headset. I hope that their preview of this is accurate, because it can look really weird if they do it wrong. If you want a preview of what this could look like, download Google's "welcome to light fields" except imagine your field of vision is way smaller. If apple pulled this off, it will be their killer feature. But there's still a place for VR180, because it is far, far more accessible and editable and compact, as well as fully surrounding. VR180 is already ahead of its time. Whatever apple is doing will remain this elusive elitist apple thing for at least a decade before it catches on.

    • @ExtremCoxer
      @ExtremCoxer Год назад +3

      What makes you think that Apples videos will be 6dof ? As far as I remember they haven't mentioned such thing in the presentation. It was only presented as 3D videos. There was some paralax on playback, yes, but I guess that was only an attempt to kind of represent a 3D effect in a 2D video.

The Insta360 One was supposed to have a 3D 180 mod hut it never came. Thats the only reason i bought a One, hopefully theyll come back and fulfil their promise. So much better than 360 video for some purposes. Like just sitting down and wanting to be immersed.
