Three constants in this video…1. Every bugle includes a chuckle. 2. Every elk response includes a smile and camera nod. 3. Every elk response includes a finger point from cameraman to where he thinks it’s at. 😂😂😂 I love it! Go get e’m!

To solve your issue with the elk coming to a different spot. I learned a great deal from our guide. And I’ve used this tactic for hunting turkeys with friends and it’s almost always a done deal. He taught us to have the hunter positioned 30 yards ahead of the caller then when the bull doesn’t have line of sight he would call in the exact direction of the hunter, But as the bull got closer he would shift 20 yards to the left or right. This way the bull closes the distance while keeping his attention not so focused on where the hunter is so he’s not picked off.

As a private land owner in prime elk country, thank you for respecting it. We allow ours to be hunted by the public but we have had issues in the past of gates left open letting our cattle out or Forrest cattle in. Cut fences when the gates are locked. People making new roads. All the shenanigans during the hunting season. It’s definitely gotten better in the last decade thanks to people like you. Still can’t leave private property signs in reach or they disappear. Gotta have ladders and hang them high.

It's the adventure, the game. Anyone can shoot animals at a farm. That's why you have devoted followers. They experience the same feeling of adventure, the hunt, comradery the memories.

I grew up in CO. The biggest bull I have ever taken (I have shot 25 elk) was taken less than 300 yards from a heavily traveled road. There is a thick stand of pines that has a waterhole and good grass. Elk go there because everyone drives past it on the way to higher country. I call it the Devil's Hole because it is really thick. It has produced 6 elk for me over the years. Elk go where they feel safe and sometimes that is close to the road as people drive by.

That is incredible! Having hunted CO OTC archery before, my hats off to you guys for getting in so close on a huge bull! Way more challenging than what the major Outdoor TV shows show for elk hunting when they go to a private ranch and drive their side-by-side to the elk and shoot them as they walk along the same trail they take every day! I hunted the boundaries of public and private last time I was in CO and there was a ton of sign and we even saw a huge group of large bulls over on private that would not budge.

Probly goes without saying boys. But one of the biggest rules in bow hunting elk is to have ur back to a tree when setting up for a shot. When u hide too well while set up, u won’t have very many windows to put an arrow through. U guys are killing it tho, nice call in. Can’t believe u guys pulled that bull into bow range, awesome video🤘

So we are gearing up for bow season and I have to admit, I've been slacking a bit, not as focused as I could be on getting spots ready and tying up loose ends but watching that Elk walk up like that and seeing Ben draw his bow (and watching the arrow as it released from the bow and slide in right in front of that right shoulder) has got me pumped up. Hate y'all weren't able to get it done but it really is better to be safe than sorry. Hopefully your sportsmanship will pay off.

Lots of folks dissing the chuckle. I'm not sure why. The chuckle says "come over here". A better suggestion would be to cut the scream chuckle combo. Be inviting to the bull rather than say "I'll kick your ass, get over here." Otherwise, that setup. Ugh. I was screaming, WHY ARE YOU BEHIND THE TREE??! Glad to see the honest talk about the setup. Last thing, keep calling! WHats the worst that happens. He was already leaving. Try to call and stop him or bring him back. You can't do worse.

Great video. Learn from your “mistakes” and get a better setup. You can call elk like you do turkeys if you have a few people. Set the hunter off to the side and pull him in front of the hunter by two callers walking over the hill cow calling and scraping. It’s gotta be awesome out the learning and getting that experience!!!

Right call was still made..... You didn't shoot congrats for that! Bow hunting to me is about that ( making the right call).... My thought if I was their would have been ( looking from camera angle) If i try this shot and hit a branch that bull could run deep into private..... Then doing the right thing and getting the land owner's permission to try and recover the bull is one thing..... The owner most likely will come with you to help/observe and the thought in the owners mind.... non-resident hunters wounding animals. That's one huge reason other states are trying their best to cull the non-resident hunters. So think of it this way boys, you just made us non-resident elk hunters shine in a good light by making the right choice. THANK YOU!!!!

Just my opinion, in otc units in Colorado it does more harm than good using a bugle tube. Also, elk are huge animals so they expect to see an animal when they are approaching your set up. Use the advantage of multiple people in your group and call them through you instead of to you. Elk are naturally loud animals while moving through the mountains so don’t worry about making noise. With everyone using “on x” these days you don’t have to hike miles and miles back. Often big remote areas draw a lot of hunting pressure. Just like whitetail hunting, small spots close to the road are very overlooked and the Elk definitely know this. Not trying to criticize just speaking from personal experience in otc units.

When you call a bull elk and he answers back use that to locate him then go his direction then if and when you call again always always make it sound like you are a much smaller bull so you entice him to answer you, but when you sound as big or bigger than he is he will always go silent. Take it from an 80 yr old man that has at least 10 bows and killed at least 7 elk 14 to 20 dear I lost count and was the only hunter in California in 1969 to kill a bear. Go back and watch all of this hunt and you will see what I mean on using a immature bugle might have helped. Particularly when you heard the elk on the rocks they were leaving and the bull was hearding his cows away from your bugles (a bigger bull). I love the hunting public videos, I go back and watch them again and again, I love the stalking that gets my heard racing just like I was there with you guys, thats why I only love bow hunting, hope you never get old and the wind is in your face, thanks Jim

Respect!! I would have let it fly if it were me as long as it was in range. Think you made the right, mature decision. If its ON the Line then it goes both ways is how I've always looked at. Maybe im wrong though

The caller sure knows how to scare the elk off. You don't want to be bigger than the elk you are calling, same size or smaller. Cow calls can and do work better to calling in bulls!

Listened to the podcast a couple days ago and heard about you guys talking about quiet shoes. Croc makes these LiteRider tennis shoes that are fairly thin and really quiet. I used them most of bow season last year
