You'll have less problem starting it , by simply letting it run for awhile rather than constantly shutting it down. Letting them run awhile helps "clear " whatever junk was in engine from sitting
That's a damn good looking mower for it's age... If I had to guess I'd say it's an early 90's with a briggs quantum engine. I'd personally change the oil.
Short cuts are not the way to go take it off and do it right like I said take it off and do it right not only that but you got a lot of vibration till you got a bent blade or crankshaft
