A brief political history of Kenya from independence (1963) to 2022

- Since independence in December 1963 Kenya has had 5 heads of state and 1 failed coup. Making it one of the most stable countries in Africa transitioning peacefully from one president to another.
Kenyan presidents exemplify the idea that in politics there are no permanent enemies or friends, but only permanent interests.
This video looks at all Kenyan heads of state from 1963 to 2022.
Initially, Kenya had no president. The country became independent on 12 December 1963 with Queen Elizabeth 2 as head of state and Malcolm MacDonald as Governor-General appointed by the Queen on advice from Kenyan Prime Minister Jomo Kenyatta.
As part of the 1963 Constitution, the Senate and the House of Representatives were constituted into a bicameral parliament.
When the constitution was amended in 1964, the Senate and House of Representatives were combined into a unicameral National Assembly.
CORRECTION : in the video we said Kenyatta died in Nakuru and not Mombasa.
THE RIGHT THING WAS: He died in Mombasa and not Nakuru making the plans of the conspirators unsuccessful
He actually died in Nakuru.
Ok everyone lets agree that he died. Full stop 🛑.
@@bantuvoicemuchaik.k.7715 No it was in State House Mombasa. It's Kenyan history my friend!
Please pin this comment to the top of the comments section to make it easy for us to see the corrections.
I was rushing here to correct you ;-)
Excellent documentary on our founding fathers and Kenyan's political history
May God Bless Kenya
God bless Kenya
This format is an easy one to understand the political history of african countries. Would urge to create more such videos involving the political transition of african countries from independence uptill now
As a Kenyan, I can say you've done your research well, as always. Jomo Kenyatta died in Mombasa though.
Died in office
Apparently he didn't actually die in Mombasa, he died in a village around 10 km south of Ukunda in Kwale County, he was there having a meeting with farmers
Thanks and sorry for the error
@@TK_197 i blame the farmers
Cheers. A brief but well summarized documentary of how far we have come as a Nation. May the Name of our God be glorified for the far He has brought us as a Nation. My salutes to the Late Father of our Nation Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, the Late former President Daniel Toroitich Arab Moi, the Late former President Mwai Kibaki, Former President Uhuru Kenyatta. My prayers for our current President His Excellency William Ruto. Thank you for this enlightening documentary.
A very nice and good documentary, I wonder it hasn't reached a million views
I can say William Ruto has proven to be the most resilient of all. With merely no background, he crawled up to the presidency. Many lessons to learn from Kenyan political formations which are replete with backstabbing at all points especially against Vice Presidents.
He’s extremely corrupt. Even as a Vice President, he was extremely corrupt and did land grabs and embezzled public funds which he then used to fund his presidential campaign.
Excellent documentary,,, exactly what the youth need to understand the rich African history.... keep it up 💯💯💯💯
Excellent video,thumbs up 👍
You are clear and precise
Excellent documentary 🥲🤔🥰
This is so far and by far the best documentary production for African political stories. Kudos.
Thanks
Well researched and done video. Keep up the good work.
Anytime
Great video as always! Keep up the good work 👍👊
Thanks! Will do!
@@AFRISTORYNETWORK Same of our africa country's dont accept the outcomes of the election rusals.
Wow, very well done video. Great photo for the beginning and end to sum up the story. New subscriber.
Welcome aboard!
As always, a very well done piece.
Thank you kindly!
Love from Kenya. I'm an aspriring writer and curently a transcriber. I hope one day our paths will cross, so I can put the face to the voice.

Mzee Jomo Kenyatta never died in Nakuru. He died in the coastal city of Mombasa, in particular he died in his sleep at State House Mombasa,, in the wee hours of 22nd August 1978. Please correct this glaring error in your otherwise good production.
Thanks and sorry for the error
I wish this guys can do duediligent before posting such... so an informed and lies!!!!
That's true. I was actually also wondering why he mentioned Nakuru yet it's said he died in his sleep in Mombasa.
Did they say he died in Nakuru?
He never did in Nakuru.
its yet another brilliant production from our Ugandan kin... safi sana
You're welcome
Kariba sana
im enjoying your videos
Thanks
very educative and memorable moments. some of us did not even know our fore founders.i
Good job 👏
Thanks for closing the gaps.
Any time!
Mzee Jomo died in Mombasa and not in Nakuru, Kibaki did not agree to having Raila as Prime Miniter, this was an agreement after negotiations for peace led by the late Kofi Annan.
Kenyatta died in Nakuru not Mombasa
Kenyatta died in Mombasa Mr
Great video
Thanks
Good and enducative 👍👍
2:51 -such a nice picture.we could have had it all had we federated at this point in time
History as it is👌 good work
We miss KIBAKI
For real
Some say his kenyas best president
@@AFRISTORYNETWORK he is ,no doubt
Of all Presidents i also miss kibaki, be was an office man, ad not shouting
@@AFRISTORYNETWORK 100% the most selfless president
that photo is legendary
Great piece, easy to wach and interesting. However, the president died in Mombasa and not Nakuru as narrated.
Can you do one on Uganda also?
Kenya is now a role model to other African Countries
God Bless Kenya
Mzee Jomo Kenyatta on the night of his death, was been entertained by traditional dancers at Statehouse Mombasa ...He felt tired and excused himself which was unusual as he used to enjoy the dances...He retired to bed earlier than usual and left ...He was still sickly at this time...He slept and died in his sleep in wee hours of 22 August 1978.
He died in Msambweni not state house.
Well done, but, Kenyatta died in Mombasa not Nakuru.
Wow
Much of your story about Kenyan President is well Researched but the stalemate between the Late Excellency Mwai Kibaki & Hon. Raila wasn't because of the position of Prime Minister but a pre-election MoU of serving only a single 5 years term, which was trashed by the former pitting them to election rivals in the subsequent election.
Thanks.
The music was too loud.
5:04 is wrong. he died in mombasa not nakuru
Congratulations to all Presidents and Deputy Presidents to make proud.
I tuned out right at the beginning because you said Kenya has had one attempted coupe. WRONG. I know of two. First was Ndolo second was Ochuka.
William Kipchirchir Samoei Arap Ruto has entered the chat.
What about the history that states that Kenyatta died at mombasa
Interesting... 🤔
If Kenya’s GDP grew by 1% for every time an election has resulted in violence, it would be the world’s richest country.
Great video BTW. For such a well-known country, not a lot is really said about Kenya.
That would mean it only grew 5% lol. We easily do that on a normal year.
Uhuru is still in state house until further notice my friend. Good production though. Am your country man, you make me a proud Ugandan.
Interesting
William Ruto is the 5th
KIKUYUS AND KALENJINE ARE THE REASON KENYA IS STILLL CORRUPT,THATS WHY YOU FEAR OTHER TRIBES BECAUSE WE WILL SHOW YOU HOW TO MAKE KENYA LIKE AMERICA
UhuRuto campaigned for President and Deputy President. Kenya changed the name from VP to DP after the 2010 constitution. Good job though
Ahhh you have said things Kenyans would fear to say- I’ve learnt things I didn’t know
Am grateful you learned something
the Producer or Narrator is a UGANDAN , youve done well in ths research , but some parts are wrong .
Like?
Good performance to the Kenya leaders
Kenya never ceased to be a colony: we simply went from being a british one, to be a british AND mostly an american one.
No matter who the puppet in chief is (and the current one is the worst ever, alongside Moi).
I miss Kibaki
Good video but listen through minute 4:50 to 5:15....hint Nakuru, Mombasa
I did got the mistake and am remorseful sorry
@@AFRISTORYNETWORK it's 4:52 & 5:06 where you stated about the assumptions made while planning the assanination & where you have stated Kenyatta died in Nakuru.
The Ugandan accent... Dope
I am also enjoying that accent sana Asante kwa huyu mwana wa Uganda.
♥️😇🤔
Mama Ngina! Wah. She exemplified evil.
Couple of errors though, and Kenyatta’s era was barely anything close to the golden era.
Even a simple google search would show you Kenyatta died in Mombasa.
I would like to know the other 3 wives of the late mzee jomo kenyatta
I think Mama Ngina cooked the other two and ate them for dinner.
Kenyatta died in Mombasa.....
Let me speak
Well done why no other Kenyan neither Kikuyu or mkale cannot be the preso of Kenya ? Kenyans think big,not even Rao,we can have better president from our small tribes Teso.
Some of the stories you give here are not accurate. You present well, but research the facts better. Also, pronounce names well.
Look beyond the mirror, why does the constitution conspicuously cater to two tribes?? I rather think that the neocolonist thought I was ignorant.. They sell a sparrow 4 kshs 2. I apologize 4 my audacity but of course I will never relent...Ukweli kama Upunzi!
Why put a pink face in the middle ?
Huh
Kenyatta died in MOMBASA
I think it was poorly done from the prime minister . He will answer to the Netherlands.
Ruto not yet a head of state 😀
Appoint Henry Cavill.
Two failed coups actually
💘 𝔭𝔯𝔬𝔪𝔬𝔰𝔪
Inconsistent!!
Kenyatta died in mombasa
Who is this narrator with a heavy luganda accent? He should have done a documentary on his ugandan failed state, ngony min mare
If you don't know Kenya history stop doing this videos
Total lies. Moi was a genius he was admitted to Alliance high school in 1945 but was turned down The best economy in Kenya was in 1986. Pliz do research. Anioher advice is Mioi was not defeatead in 2002. He retired in 2002. Keep up the narative. Moi could have refused to hand over power. By the way Kibaki was defeated in 2007 by Agwambo. So please keep up the narative. Annan did not save the country ,the Army gave Kibaki conditions . The economy grew post 2002 bcoz of e-commerce. So please keep on with mainstream media narrative.
And u want us to believe your lies, kibaki won hiyo n kawaida ya baba yenu kulialia ameibiwa
Giving the Kalenjins power was a mistake in history
Exactly
Not so! Power was given to just One Kenyan! Moi. Death to tribalism! Long Live Kenya!
The sentiment is really choosing violence
@@denniskiprop1825 my point! Stop tribalism! Please we are all GOD'S CHILDREN 🙏
Your comment alone is so tribal... Kenya is for all of us God bless us
Our history needs to re written,Kenyatta was not a freedom fighter, but a crap hole collaborator
