Does this Council really believe they have a mandate to clearly go against the government's wishes. No mention of any other peoples here so this once again is telling all your rate payers and all Kiwis Maori are once again more entitled than others. One country. One people. The sooner that happens the better and the sooner all peoples have the same rights and respect.

A "nuianced approach" - how here we go again - the slovely, warm and fuzzy rhetoric. The Council DOES NOT NEED to do any "community" deals - these are not with the "community" - the "community" has been conflated to be "Maori." The Council is the governance organisation - not creating another governance organisation that gives Maori 50% of the power, when they are NOT 50% of the electorate. This again, simply means that every other New Zealanders vote is halved in value, and Maori's power is doubled. The Council IS the GOVERNANCE Body. STOP this nonsense. You do not NEED another governing power in order to localise central government decisions - the COUNCIL just needs to get on with localising. NOT creating more and more expectations amongst Maori of more and more say and control and power that then when its gets wound back because of what it is - a power grab - then there is screaming, violence, angry insult hurling, like we saw in on this recent march.

These Maori rebels hate Pakeha, don't give them anything that effects us, they are spreading racism and white hate everywhere we don't need them deciding anything it will all be to ursurp us and take more, they do not deserve this status at all in fact the Treaty Chiefs warned them NOT to start political partys that's a principle. I live in Auckland whcih was made for Pakeha, it was heavily attacked by Kingis, we want somewhere we can associate with mainly Pakeha, Maori have their Maraes and land areas, we have nothing as a collective Native ethnicity

I can't believe what I heard in this video.
Firstly when he paraphrased Ken Mair... you should know that he is a lifelong radical activist who was largely responsible for the local protests in the 90's. The fact that Ken has had a hand in this is like broadcasting that Karl Marx is advising him on economics! Yes it is that bad.
Secondly if this is going to be binding on future councils then there should be a local referendum, Tripe was NOT elected to do this.
Thirdly, Tripe mentions that the public will see no difference... if so then why do it? Basic rule of government... if it's not broken don't fix it.
Fourthly the logic here is bizarre... if land is gifted to the council it is exempt from this co governance arrangement... but other public land is liable? Why?
And yes as Laws mentioned... the government has told local councils to stop this nonsense and focus on core services. If I remember correctly Tripe said that they were focusing on core services... and now he does this... Liar.
Lastly... involving Iwi on how to deal with the drug problem is going to be counterproductive. Their policy is to always blame colonialism. Which means young Maori are being taught by activists NOT to take responsibility for their own behaviour. If you extend and endorse this thinking... then the drug problem will get worse. Because the only way to get people off drugs is to get them to take responsibility for their actions.

He goes on about a “local solution for the local community”. Yet all those programs and initiatives, I would be unsurprised if 90% of Whanganui rate payers had no idea what any of them are.
Councils has gone from being run by the community for the community to being run being a bureaucracy that thinks it knows better and doesn’t give a stuff about local community input.
We need to go back to the way councils were run 30 years ago when they were run far cheaper and move efficiently with more community input rather than just input from special interest groups.

As Laws points out the Wanganui District Council is not a signatory to the Treaty of Waitangi. It has just spent $80,000,000 on upgrading our Art Gallery. It belongs to the Wanganui Ratepayers who pay for its maintenance does it not? Why would you give away our property to a Maori Trust/Charity? Govt Departments don't pay rates do they? Why mislead us with reference of support from Police or Corrections for constructions on our old UCOL site other than as a 'red herring'? They are subject to Parliament! This is another attempt at co governance before we even get to vote on Maori seats. Another radical Council less than a year from election

Parking fees and fines are through the roof for in town.
The beautiful Sarjeant Gallery got a big black box tacked on the back, designed with iwi and complete with waka etc.... new entrance.... its lost its heart and soul.
And it was at huge cost and someone recently took a photo of a big crack thats appeared in the concrete flooring in the new back end....!

      @matthewdonoghue321 13 часов назад +2

I couldn't agree more, however to be fair things are only going to worse... from bad.
      Here are a few examples...
The council built the Olympic size pool, except the council cut costs and made it a few meters too short for the Olympic standard.
The council built the velodrome, they made it wood and then decided to cut costs by not putting a roof on it... necessitating that it needed resurfacing.
The council built a new stadium at Cooks Gardens, however they did not install enough changing rooms so rugby teams have to change elsewhere and then get transported to the game.
The council tried an untested method to deal with human waste... most of us can remember the whole town stinking of human waste for well over a year.
The council forced every household to separate waste water from rain water... at great cost. However after they did so they found that the waste sewerage lines around town didn't have enough liquids going through them... so the council decided it was ok for them to add liquids to the lines to clear them.
Oh and you mentioned the new art gallery... somehow they did that grotesque extension... and in doing so made the library car park smaller!... a carpark which was always full whenever I visited.
The council even gets the little things wrong... at my local park their used to be a rubbish bin, when I took my kids there I would often clean up glass that had been smashed by teens. The council in its wisdom removed the only bin taking away my ability to help keep things clean.
      Oh... one more...
The Museum used to have a balanced approach where their was the Maori waka downstairs and the colonial stuff upstairs. However they have removed the Zulu war shield and destroyed the replica of the stockade. Basically the activists had a field day putting a racial bias into the museum.

Most of the funds were spent on a new warehouse style tribute to honour the memory of Te Atawhai Archie John Taiaroa. The real work on the Sargant Gallery is of 2nd concern and unfinished. I fear that funding will run out or be needed at Te Puna Hapori justice precinct before it's done.

People who were near identical to the Aboriginal Australians from the area that is now Sydney. There are written records and photographic evidence.
The Taiwanese were head hunters and the Cook Islanders practiced cannibalism both of which continued in New Zealand (kaitangata)
They took the best looking women as wives from what they considered a very ugly people and even had a term for "black fellas". Even though the Moriori and Maori share dna I suspect the peaceful nature of the Moriori is a continuation from being those first people.
