As someone who has been using Substance tools in game dev, and procedural/map based offline rendering in 3dsMax, for many years, I have to say that this is insanely good. Just watched all the vids to date, you have done a remarkable job with this tool and the design and featureset is very impressive. As a relatively new Blender user I am constantly blown away by the quality of addons being created by lone devs. Even though my pipeline is Substance heavy I'll definitely buy this just to support your work. I could see this being very useful even as a tri-planar procedural/map based workflow without UV painting to bake down for non-hero props.
I've had my eye on this for a minute and have been tempted to get it. What finally tipped the scales was the fact that you keep putting more work into it as well as putting out new clear and succinct videos explaining the improvements. Thanks for the new toolset to play around with! Really looking forward to it.
This add on is genius. I am already using it, and I'll be getting much deeper into it as I go. You guys are like, here's a door, and hey, two more doors, and each has two or three, and guess what? You're invited. Set yourself FREEEEE!
Huh, never seen this before. Looks like it could potentially replace a big chunk of my Substance workflow... Edit: If anyone is wondering wether they should try this or not, absolutely do. It's the most amazing addon I've ever installed since Node Wrangler.
I just purchased the add on and would like some more in depth tutorials...in new to nodes and having the hardest time so I got this add on to help and now I'm more confused...after some training I'm sure I'll be a professional thank for the addon
If Blender had the option for exporting materials as image textures for use in other applications like UE4 this would be the greatest texturing solution for anything. Love this addon, keep up the great work!
I made my own tool and in my there is one very useful tool it uses RGB brushes to define the material of painted mask (red for roughness, green for metalness and blue for bump) all brushes are 2k for a good bumpmap, also the alpha of the brush is used as a blend factor
I've been following this channel for a few months now and just bought it because of the continuous updates you are doing and excellent video tutorials. And because I think I can do my next project without using substance painter and use your tool instead. So I have also cancelled my substance licence for a few months while I test it out. I do think the only thing I MIGHT miss is the range of base procedural textures that ship with Substance Painter as they are super handy to get materials started quickly. However ... there is a metric ton of procedural cycles blender materials out there and there's a lot of ways to get around this problem in Blender :D
I've actually been putting some thought into this and may have found a solution. My initial concern was how to fit so many base materials in the dropdown menu without it feeling crowded, but I think I've solved it. More on that soon. ;)
Hey there. Not even close to becoming an alternative. The way it treats curvature / normal information is so off it's not even funny. Example: If you take a look at 3:44 at the way the scratches are made, they look incorrect and seem like a bad alpha slapped on a model. In SP2 you would, usually, layer micro damage like this to give it a very realistic look (unless you're going for stylized, but even then you'd layer it so it looks natural). There is no need to reinvent the wheel, at the moment SP2 and Designer are the industry leading tools that you can get almost for free + it's the fastest way for you if you want to get into the industry (in terms of texturing / creating materials of course). Cheers
Would love the Full TUT start to finish, thanks for the update. would be nice if you had a discord channel for all who brought your addon could share idea's and feed back
Do you ever have the problem where Blender will just stop compiling materials when they get to a certain amount of complexity? I ran into that a lot when working with beta release of blender 2.8. My materials weren't what I would consider overly complex either.
It happens when I'm on Mac. After adding a dozen textures to a material the model turns pink. It's super frustrating, but I think they are working to fix it by adding Vulkan support.
Impressive piece of software. I have abandoned Substance Painter as they joined with Adobe and am searching for a good alternative. Looks like i found one, that fits my workflow quite nicely.
'I have abandoned Substance Painter as they joined with Adobe and am searching for a good alternative' It was very rash decision, because since then SP became only better and will be even more.
Excellent work on this. I predict a best seller. I'm guessing that it's possible to bake/flatten the material to metal/rough textures for export to UE4/Unity?
Looks awesome :D can you then bake out those textures and use them in game engines like Unity or Unreal ? Similar to substance painter or it's mostly used with eevee?
hi any video to help to bake all the maps and channel information for color map and cavity map? thx it is great addon. any further update for pores for micro details for human skin purpose? thx.
Hmm.. Sounds like I must need to save some money for this.. This addon makes blender incredibly powerful..! Since the workflow is entirely procedural, there is no need to much bothered about the perfect UVs. Feels same as Substance painter workflow; only the difference is nodes which going left to right rather than layers that stacking on top of another..! Off course there is pre made materials and awesome smart materials in Painter. but I hope that all is coming in the future updates! Pls make tutorials on baking PBR maps in cycles as well.
Hii michael...for those of us who purchased mask tools previously..is there a deal for getting updates like this..or do we have to purchase the entire pack again..thanks..great work as always
@@WaywardArtCompany Thats amazing ( maybe u should consider a small fee for these top ups - it is extra work for you after all and i for one would have no problem paying supplements - anyway - wonderful stuff!
grat video, that houset the end is what i need to do. currentty i have a texture map uv mapped. if i want to add grunge etc, how do I get that to the texture map the game uses (msfs2020 with blenderto ms tools exporter)? I know I could bake a new texture but what happens to the normals etc.

i feel like this stuff is all so awesome, but also there's just too much to learn and the technology keeps changing to rapidly. it's hard to break into.
For anyone trying to get into a professional industry, do not use this. It's essentially substance painter but will only work in blender. Cool idea though, you may be better off trying to get onto the substance team as you obviously have very good ideas for texture painting (:

Just bought Mask Tools addon, looking forward to following along to your tutorials.
I was also thinking about buying it, but I started making my own because that way I can have got munch more control over it.

With this addon, Blender can become Substance Painter alternative.
maybe... can it export texture maps though?
