I dyed my fabric top for the first time on my 07 650i. I used a product similar called carbusonic which is a permanent dye. I cleaned it first with 303 brand all purpose cleaner and let dry. Then applied the dye and let dry. Its so hot here in texas in the summertime, it didn’t take very long to dry. After that I applied 303 fabric guard in 3 coats. Let it dry about 30min in-between coats. So now for water proofing I just apply 303 fabric protector. Roof looks great. I enjoy your videos.
Just done mine exactly like you said. I've done 2 layers with a brush. Sponge roller witch I had didn't worked for me. Fantastic tips Tim. All the best
Great video very valuable information, I live in the Middle East where it’s hot all year long, I’ve noticed that the rubber sealant is seeping through the fabric on the whole top and it starts to stick dust on it which become impossible to remove with out taking it to the detail shop every 6 months which costs a lot of money. I have used the renovo black stain but the seeping molten rubber keeps coming back again. Any tips? BTW my car is a 2011 640 convertible. Cheers
Hi Timm. The roof on my 645ci does not look green although I have never cleaned it with the brush and soap. Would you recommend me doing this before painting the soft top?
@@TimmsBMWRepairsandInformation Thanks Tim, on the brush itself which is the preferred type to use? I don't want to use something to abrasive and damage the soft top
Hi, greetings from Ukraine, I have e64, my soft top in great condition, but problems with rubber gutter which situated to edge right and left and contains 3 pieces. It burst in points which bending, I tried to glue it semi flaxible cyanoacrylate but no result. Did you faced which problem?
Hello from the UK! I've got exactly the same problem, it breaks where it comes against the storage area. It is something that I will have to think about!
I have never had a convertible and never will. I don't even like sun roofs. But the black makes a nice contrast to the body color on your car. By the way. How did you keep those cats off your roof the night between your applications? Cats are evil and take great delight in messing up our most prized possessions. I know I used to have one. Still miss him though.
Hi Tim how can I get in touch with you? Are you still servicing? I need my car looked at and the roof now starts flashing red light saying not closing properly and once u drive put windows up it works fine ☺️😕strange I want to preserve with it so please help and check it over or if u can recommend someone local to me in Essex.
Hello Dipa, no, I only ever worked on my own cars. Have a look on meeknet.co.uk/e64 I have information on soft-top problems which may help. However, it sounds as if your rear window is not closing completely - that will cause a red-light error.
Love the e64 content. The most useful channel for owners on RUclips!
Wow, thanks Kobe!

Wow looks great!!!
Thanks Steven!
Fabsil always works well, and gives a certain depth back to the colour. Worked great on a blue Porsche Boxster roof.
Hey Timm, thanks for your videos, they are super helpful!
Glad you like them!

Yes, the cleaner helps the paint soak into the soft-top

Hi Timm.
Not related but can you advise me the type and power of the battery you use in 650i, especially if not used frequently?
Thanks, Don
Looks brilliant! I have a question.. do you the Styling Code of the wheels?
Yes I do! They are LA Spoke 19" - standard on the 650i unless you actually wanted the ellipsoid ones!
Thank you for your help 🌞
You are so welcome!
Great video. Could it be sprayed on?
I could always try a fence sprayer - but I would have my doubts!
I did same job to my e36 cabriolet too. Colour getting blavk but still not so perfect.

Lint roller is the trick - the sort you get hairs off of jackets - works a treat
Do you know what products to use to restore the plastic where the back of the roof sits?
Yes: amzn.to/3aQkIvy
