In Bacecamp (for PC), if you go under EDIT > OPTIONS > DEVICE TRANSFER, you can toggle on/off whether or not Basecamp creates that second route file that doesn't have shaping points. And, you can customize this setting for different devices using the drop-down box above.

A Via Point will announce and your GPS will require you to hit that point. If you change it to Don't Alert you are changing it to a Shaping Point which your GPS will NOT require you to hit it. I always highlight all points between Start and End, right click and select Don't Alert, then you're good to go and the GPS will reroute instead of sending you back to a Via Point.

Is there a limit on shaping points like there is of 50 way points when importing to the GPS?

Daniel Barron the limit is set by your zumo. Older ones have less but we are talking waypoints , shaping points are no limits in terms of numbers but only on the newer units. The 550 and 660 will auto convert shaping points back o waypoints on transfer. The newer 340,590 etc you can add as many shaping points as you like.

Right. Thanks. I've ordered a 350LM second hand from eBay. I will see how it handles it.
