  • 2016 May 20th. New Mach4 ESS plugin video showing how to set up the Spindle in PWM mode with Forward and Reverse. I replaced the one made the day before to clarify some points that were causing questions and confusion.

    Just to be clear: If you want to run your spindle in reverse when issuing 'M4 S15000' commands, you will need to add a "SPINDLE Rev" output also.

    How did you manage to get that virtual panel to come up. I haven't been able to find anything on it. I looks like a screenshot of a RIGOL screen shot.

      Hi, Nicolas,
      It is from my Rigol 1204B using the "UltraScope for DS1000B Series" application. If you click o n the software tab, you can see it: www.rigolna.com/products/digital-oscilloscopes/ds1000b/ds1204b/
      Most of their other scopes have an UltraScope for that series as well.

    What might be wrong in my settings if the "Cycle Start" turns on the spindle but the spindle speed cannot be controlled?

      Hi Josh,
      My initial guess would be that you have your spindle in Relay mode instead of PWM mode for the ESS setting, or you are not specifying a S450 or S20000 parameter in the MDI or GCode to change the speed, or you don't have the 0-10V output of your BOB hooked up correctly to your VFD (or it isn't set up to read it).

    Hi, I need kwno if with the C25 board can use PWM directly?

      Hi,
      The C25 can pass the PWM signal through it, but the C25 does not have the circuitry required to generate a 0V to 10V output signal for your VFD. A board like the C41S can wire up to your C25, and generate the required 0V to 10V signal, plus it also has two relays for controlling your VFD. The C41 would use 3 output pins from your C25 (along with a ground pin).

      The Virtual panel is my oscilloscope's PC side software display. It is not part of Mach or the SmoothStepper.

      @@Warp9TechDesign okay how did you connect it to mach ,are you using the physical ESS or its all virtual

      The ESS is real and connected to the PC via Ethernet. I hooked my Oscilloscope up to the ESS pin assigned to the PWM output, and you are seeing the ESS generated Spindle PWM waveforms on the Virtual Panel, which is my oscilloscope's PC side software display and is not part of Mach or the SmoothStepper.

      The virtual panel is my oscilloscope's USB-based connection to the PC and the virtual display of the oscilloscope screen. You would not have that, I was just trying to show you what was happening.
