CTA Red Line - Announcements - Howard to Ashland/63

- Before 1993, CTA's Red and Green Lines operated pretty much opposite of how they run now. The Green Line originally ran as the Lake-Dan Ryan route and the Red Line ran as the Howard-Englewood-Jackson Park route.
In 2013, the Dan Ryan line had to be shut down for a 5 month reconstruction of the whole line. As a result, Red Line trains were sent on their original routing via the 13th Street incline to the South Side Elevated to Ashland/63.
This video is a recap of the announcement program of this reroute that exists on the CTA’s 5000 Series rail cars.
Thanks to John Curtin for helping me add some nice historical photos and Ahmed Burson for the subway art at the beginning of the video. Check out his Instagram at @ab_surd9llc

NOTE: I apologize for the error at around 16:30. There was an error with the rendering of the video on the editor which made the announcement say "47th" randomly after the "Halsted next" announcement.

How the fuck does anyone gamble on a train? Like “I bet that guy is going out of the train next station”
You'd be surprised by what happens on the Red Line lol
@@ChicagolandTransit I'm from New York and I've never seen gambling on the subway. Is that a thing in Chicago?
I think they still run the shell game on the orange, getting the tourists
Typical red line 😂

You can hear the change in his voice as Lee Crooks has aged, he still sounds great though!
Thought he recorded them all at one time....
@@blue9multimediagroup He did, but over the years they’ve changed, added stations, transfer points etc, all that have necessitated new or changed recordings
Library and Washington/Wabash both have noticeably newer announcements than the other Loop stations. Others have also been re-recorded over the years.
Really wish more conductors would make these personal announcement
This was back in the day when they had conductors.
@@fnihp30 and they still have conductors it’s not like it’s automatic trains
@@fnihp30 this was recorded less than 5 years ago. they had drivers then and they do now
@@phoungdang4473 I said when they had “conductors”, not “train operators”, “motormen” or “drivers”.
I also wish they still had walk through conductors. Maybe people wouldn't act so idiotic
I like how you slipped Washington/State in at 09:02.
Same
Can u do all the lines?
Yeah
It took me back to 1999. DePaul university days. Granville to Jackson.
Can you make a video about the announcement for the blue line
I saw this on the Chicago l page on fb and you should do more announcement videos of other lines cause this ones great👍

They had rush hour only service from 2017-2018/19 cause of the Dan Ryan Ⓜ️ renovation
Okay, we haven't to remember our stop. We will called by name, as the patients in doctor's waiting room.
True that would be, Friedrich, Robert?
I was living near Chicago when the Green line was shut down as it wasn't as bad to get into Oak Park for what I needed to as Metra was a great option as well when I needed it
Omg this is giving me so much nostalgia
For the last 6 years this is the sound I would hear that why I love chicago
You should do the CTA bus announcements
ASHLAND/63RD

They should remove the Green Line transfer @ 35th-Bronzeville IIT
That train to McCormick, the Operator sounded like Denzel. Hilarious but very informative.
Are Red Line trains still going to Ashland/63 as of 2024?
no
I really want to know who the conductor is 😂😂😂 I love him.
The redline under construction went to 63rd/Ashland
Who is here on march 2023 😂?
Cool I never thought of the announcements

Oh awesome! I’m glad the video has comments… I’m glad to know I’m not the only one that thinks listening to various transit Authority announcements it’s not only interesting but somehow relaxing as well
I just have one question for the Chicago transit authority… Why do we need an announcement to tell us that if we are standing, we should not lean on the doors of the train? You know the doors that open and close so people can get off and get back on? What kind of idiot would sit there and lean on a flimsy door of a train while it’s hurtling down the track at a high rate of speed? That could only end in disaster… You would think it is obvious but I guess it’s not for some people LOL
There's a video somewhere showing why...a guy leaning on the door falls asleep and when the doors open, he falls flat on his back on the platform.
