This is my favorite countdown of the year so far! ❤️ Has my favorite songs by my favorite artists: Billy Joel 'We Didn't Start the Fire'. Tina Turner 'Simply The Best'. Richard Marx 'Angelina'. And saving THE best for last Belinda Carlisle 'Leave a Light On '. ❤️❤️❤️ What a great time to be alive at 13 in 1989!!! 😎❤️
Leave a Light On by Belinda Carlisle should have been a #1 song, especially since it was a worldwide smash and continues to be popular (over 100 million hits RUclips, Spotify, etc..). The fact that it peaked at #11 is a travesty. Yes, #11 is a big hit, but its peak should reflect the love for the song and its ongoing popularity. MTV destroyed Belinda Carlisle's USA career on purpose. They warned her that the "Leave a Light On" video was not what they were looking for and gave it less airplay. They told her the next video needed to comply. When "Summer Rain" was given to MTV for review, they said they wanted more skin, sexier. She refused to re-do her "Summer Rain" video and MTV would not play that video or ANY following videos by her... ever. Summer Rain was given to VH1 only. One can imagine its #11 peak had more to do with politics and a warning rather than a true representation of its success, which can be easily seen today. Runaway Horses was truly an excellent pop/rock record.
The best❤
