A year ago, I was approached by a Rotarian after a speech to the Gainesville Rotary Club entitled "Recollections of an Infantryman in Viet Nam." He asked if I would be willing to be interviewed by an employee of a non-profit company called Witness to War - Preserve, Honor, Educate.
I agreed, and Mr. Martin Madert came to our quarters with fairly elaborate equipment, and I realized quickly that this was a video and not just an audio interview. This is the reason I am in ACUs and a green t-shirt in the video.
Mr. Madert had sent me a list of questions before he came so that I could reflect on how I might respond. When he arrived, he said that he had videoed many oral histories of World War II, Korea, and Viet Nam and that the segment would be two hours. He was very professional and on task during the interview.
I was encouraged by Riverside alumni to make the video available for alumni and cadets, so I had it added to the Riverside website.
Semper Fi,
Col Jim Benson, USMC (Ret)
