Can you confirm how the image looks downsampled to 1440p from the 4k input on the PS5? Seeing reports of it being blurry and that's putting me off, or is this only an issue with the monitors that cause a 1080p output and then upscale to 1440p?
@@tomrayner3313 @Tom Rayner Warzone supports 4K and 60HZ. Currently it doesn't support 120Hz. Black ops cold war you can either do 4K at 60Hz or 1080p at 120Hz. I went with the GLA23-A. I don't think 4k vs 1440p is much of a difference on a 27 inch screen given the pixel density as compared to a large TV.

The 4k (2160p) on the 27GN950F retains more information in the image versus the downscaled 1440p on the 27GL850. I tested this through Demon's Souls with Cinematic mode on as it's the most graphically intensive game that I own on the PS5. Sitting roughly 1ft away, with 4k on the 27GN950F I could see every single detail on my armor and everything looked sharp and crisp. Sitting the same distance from the 27GL850B things still looked crisp but there wasn't as much detail in the armor or cracks in the wall. There's definitely a difference between native 4k and downscaled 1440p. I was trying to capture all of this in the video but it didn't translate as well as I'd hoped. As another test I swapped between the 3 monitors and got my wife look at each. She's not very techy and wasn't sure which monitor had the higher resolution or costed more (essentially a blind test). She easily picked out the 27GN950F as the sharpest image with the 27GL850 being 2nd and the 27GL650F being the least. She mentioned there was a noticeable difference in detail (her words, "fine lines") between the 27GN950F and 27GL850 especially when looking up close.

I have a 4K TV. So should I just buy a 1080p 120hz for FPS & use my 4K TV for good looking exclusives?
I would prefer to use graphics over FPS since I play on 60 regularly on my ps4 so it’s fine for me
That’s what I’d do personally. Playing a fast paced game like Call of Duty you can’t beat the feeling of 120hz gaming on PS5/SeriesX
Subscribed my man. greetings from Denmark
New subscriber here! this is the review I was looking for 🤘🏽
This video came perfect i just bought the lg gl850-b
I am looking at that monitor, worth the purchase?
@@stevehammond1330 I think for the price range it's perfekt the ips panel is just wonderful beautiful popping colors and the options u get with the mount is great and I think for a screen size like 27 1440p 144 hz is just enough ( sorry for my englisch I'm german so yeah, I hoped it helped)
I was considering the LG gl83A-b or the ASUS TUF 27" 2k hdr curved
My friend you did a really good job one of the best content i saw on this theme thx 💯👌🏾💯
Thanks for the video!
Amazing review
Thanks to you now I know what to buy
A point on the LG 27GL850-B, you mention you can do 120 fps at only 1080p but it is worth noting that on my Xbox series x you can do 120 fps at 1440p when you turn adaptive sync off. At first i was worried about turning adaptive sync off in case of signs of screen tearing but when i play Cod Warzone i notice no issues at all. So i game at 120 fps at 1440p.
Thanks for the tip. This video is mainly talking about PS5 and some reference to PC. I haven't had a chance to boot up my series X yet but I might do a similar video for the series X when I get the time.
Hi Buddy, will this method also work for ps5 if i disable adap sync?
@@MrSonicspinner I'm not totally sure as I don't own a ps5, but I believe that the ps5 doesn't run at 1440p anyway, only 4k and 1080p, if that is the case then might as well have 1080p at 120fps on the few games that support it (warzone doesn't have an option of 120fps on ps5). But again I'm not 100% sure on that.
Exactly what I was looking for😭👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾🔥🔥🥶
Thanks for this vid!!
seriously thank you!
Great video! It would be awesome if you could do a deep dive with the LG 27GL850-B monitor. Specifically, I'd like to know how the experience is when running a 1080p game w/ 120fps on a 1440p monitor. Is the 1080p content stretched to fit a 1440p screen? Does it look blurry or abnormal?
Nope, I have this screen and it just looks like a slightly upscaled 1080 running at 120hz, doesnt look stretched or anything at all.
@@Slykillful thanks! That’s good to know, although seeing 1080p content upscaled to 1440p screen side by side with a 1080p screen would be great.
@@rakeshmandhan I'm wondering this exact same thing, did you get a 1440p monitor by any chance?
So far its 6 months into 2021 and still have yet to see an updated video
Nice vid but can you do budget monitors
I got 1440p 165hz monitor and my xbox gives me 1440p at 120hz and it’s definitely worth the upgrade from 1080p
This was exactly what I needed to see ty, guess Ima buy a 1080p 144htz just to rock till they drop the 2.1 hdmi
that’s what i did just got mine yesterday
Bro thanks so much !!!
Best Video out of 20💪🏼
LG + PS5 is as best as shit gets right now lol, monitor sales for 1k on Amazon. Glad I got it on Best Buy in October for 800$. Best 4K, 144hz/1ms monitor available right now, hands down!
I thought 4k/120 can't even work without the HDMI 2.1?
@@rickysingh514 Mine works smoothly and I’m getting 4k + 120 frames
@@SOH97 Thats dope, you have a link to the one you use?
@@rickysingh514 yes sir...
The lg gl850 won’t won’t run 120hz on console. Rtings has a video that discusses this.
Can you send me a link to the video or article you're referring to? The LG 27GL850B can 100% run at 1080p/120hz - 3:51 of the video is a screen cap of the monitor showing it working.
@@MatthewMora I apologize for not being more specific when I commented. The monitor can only reach 100hz over hdmi at 1440p. There are no issues getting 120hz @ 1080p. ruclips.net/video/TFx5wRoNj4E/видео.html The video talks about refresh rate at 5:46. I now realize your video was PS5 specific and I shouldn’t have made the comment.
@@ASOGAMERS no worries! thanks for the clarification.
Great job in this video. Many have been looking at the Samsung Odyssey G7 in either 27" or 30" which also boast high refresh rates but at 1440p. What information would you provide versus the LG 27" models in your video?
Don’t bro it doesn’t accept 1440p only 120hz
It’ll run 120hz okay but then downscale to 1080p
very helpful
Thanks for the feedback 🙌
AWSOME content, i got my ps5 today and i play mainly Call of Duty. Wich monitor do you recommend for competitive fps?
Plus, although i have the ps5 i think i will play (on ps5) the ps4 version of the game because at least for what i heard so far, it doesnt accept the old controller (like scuf) on the ps5 version of the game.. Thanks!! And subscribed ;)
Man thank you so much......mor people need to subscribe to you or just 👍
Appreciate the feedback man.
I’m just going to wait until these hdmi 2.1 4K 120 TVs become common
Your clever 😎
And I can recommend you a tv SAMSUNG FRAME TV this supports 4k 60@120hz and also quick response and great HDR and a 500nits brightness
@@vijayanand1750 wtf are you smoking pajeet 4k60@120hz is a contradiction. What is this, frame rate amplification?

Nice review ! Do you think the Odyssey G5 will be good for the ps5?(mostly fps games)
i’ve already got the g5 but not the ps5
i’m slightly worried about the 1440p resolution not being supported by ps5 cause my ps4 looks awful on the g5 but obvs my pc looks amazing
What about the G7 is that good?
Posting an updated version for 2.1?
ASUS VG279QL1A also works for 1080p 120hz highly recommended
Thanks for the info! I'll add this to the list!
I was gonna say! That’s what I use! The hdr and crispness and response is amazing 🤩
I’m a complete noob so 🐻 with me. Would you guys recommend this for a “sweet spot” fps and the occasional adventure games? Or should I wait till hdmi 2.1 monitors? PS5 btw
@@cantseeshadow it is a 1080p monitor which means most of ur ps4 games that can run at 60fps are smooth as butter and very detailed depending on the game. For ps5 games that I’ve played are Myles morales and Astros playroom and both are very good on it. The hdr on it is amazing and colors and contrast on it are incredible. Also the first 280hz monitor in the world but u can’t access it unless you connect it to a pc but honestly I prefer playing my ps5 on it vs my 4K tv bc of how good the graphics are on it. And this is coming from a mainly pc gamer. As for hdmi 2.1 it’s ur choice but I honestly dunno if it will make a difference unless ur getting an 8k display which is too expensive for me xd
@@Scoobyxxxsnax Okay thanks for the insight bro! I was also recommended the 27”LG 27GL850-B 1440P 144Hz. If you had to buy one which one would you pick? I heard PS5 doesn’t support 1440P as of yet but would still make a difference compared to 1080P, is that true?
Any updated list yet? Looking to buy a HDMI 2.1 monitor
One year later, I’m in the market for a monitor to use for a PS5 and also eventually a gaming PC and I was looking at either the LG27GN850 and the 4K Samsung G7. What would you think of those?
Informative video man, so since I play on PS5 is an LG tv ok? I have an LG 4K 75 inch tv, it doesn’t have 2.1 but my Rainbow6 Siege shows it’s running at 120fps which is weird lol should I get a monitor or the LG GX?
Thanks man. I'd say stick with your current TV if you're already getting 120fps. You might be getting 120fps in 1080p but rather than 4k but if it looks good to you then no need to upgrade your TV imo.
@@MatthewMora ohh ok that makes sense, well it does look good but could look better lol I’ve really been wanting the GX ever since I’ve seen it maybe in the future I’ll upgrade
Is there a runner up model or budget monitor recommendation?
Can you confirm that Alienware 360hz monitor will work? I planning to play fortnite at 120hz/fps. (Because on site it says 240hz is supported with hdmi)
Yes i think so
Appreciate for the great content thank you. What do you think about the LG 27'' 27GN880-B? It seems the upgraded version of LG 27'' 27GL850-B with ergonomic features. However I wonder if it has some disadvantages or not. Do you know something about that monitor as well?
Thanks for the feedback! I haven't personally used the 27GN880-B but the specs look like they match the 27GL850-B with the only difference being the very handy ergonomic mounting arm. I've looked high and low and the GN880--B isn't available in Canada, we only have the QN880-B which has a refresh rate of 75Hz.
Do you think a 24 inch 1080p monitor is a good idea? How pixelated does it look? I know 1440p and 4k at 27 look great, but have never played on a 24 inch 1080p 144hz monitor.
At 24 inches you will have a higher pixel density it will look better most likely.
Thank you sir
I own the LG 27GL850 and I fully recommend it, its a bit pricey but if u do PC gaming and console gaming it's the one to go for.
How does 1080p look on this monitor? Some people say that it’s blurry
@@yousif3921 depends on what you're used to like in terms of resolution. For me when I switch over to the 120hz mode in a game then yeah u can notice the resolution drop but u quickly get used to it. I still recommend the monitor tho even aftter having it for 9 months now. However if u do not game on PS5 and you're going for say and Xbox than i would not recommend this monitor. If u wanna know why , lemme know and I'll explain.
For my ps5 I got the msi mag 274 in Canada and it was worth it. It’s 27” 1ms 144hz and was only 250$
I need to try more MSI monitors. I always hear good things about them
@@MatthewMora honestly I have only had 2 monitors acer 75hz and this msi and I though msi would be decent but I was surprised with how good it was out of the box
@@MatthewMora Could you test mag274qrf/qd? Both of them can support 4k signal and able to downscale to 1440P. Saw the hardware unbox's review. They are good gaming monitor, but don't know how the dowscaler function effect looks like.
I didnt even know this downscaling feature exists so that ll be super useful for my ps4 pro but i ll wait before i upgrade coz my PC still waits for a new gpu^^
I’m playing most of the time FIFA and R6 Siege. What monitor would you recommend for me? Im thinking about getting the LG27GL850 Ultragear, or the BENQ EL287OUE monitor. What are your thoughts?
That's a tough one...I don't play much FIFA but I feel like that would look really good on a true 4k resolution but you would miss out on the 120hz in R6. I personally prefer a high refresh rate for smoother gameplay vs a high resolution so I would get the more affordable LG 27GL83A and play FIFA @ 4k downscaled to 1440p.
In Canada
EL287OU = $399
GL83A = $499
GL850 = $619
Let me know which one you end up getting.
@@MatthewMora Yeah I play most of the time FIFA but I also enjoy playing games like R6 and AC Valhalla. And in the future I’m looking forward to play some other games like Dying Light 2 and Hogwarts Legacy.
The LG27GL850 has a 144hz refresh rate, but I dont know if that does FIFA any good. I’m really struggling to find myself a good and decent monitor.. I’m slowly losing my mind haha.
In The Netherlands;
GL850 - 469EUR
OUE - 279EUR
GL83A - 469EUR
Awesome video. My question is I want a monitor for my ps5 and wanna get a 1080p. I see places say a 27” is to big for a 1080p and to get a 25”. What do you think
Does 144 Hz monitors feels stutter when you play 60 fps games? How is it compared to the 60 Hz's for smoothness?
Probably not
@@riley5032 Yes I tested it. There is no stutter. But if you can set the desktop hertz to the 144 and play the game on 60 hertz it will stutter. You need to match you desktop hertz and in game hertz.
Noticed you posted this just now. I have the lg 27gn950-b. It work awesome! But I was playing earlier when the monitor turned off on its own and turned back on. It’s new. Month and half of use. Is this normal? It didn’t happen no more
Hey! The 27GN950-B is a beast! I haven’t had mine turn off on me and I’ve had mine since November. If it only happened once then I wouldn’t worry. If it happens often then I would reach out to LG customer support to see if there’s anything they can do.
@@MatthewMora thanks for reaching out. This my first time owning a monitor. Barely got it in last week of November. Never had an issue with anything like that. It just turn off and back on and the rub lighting did the bright lights like when you turn it on. I don’t know if it’s because it got overheated in someway. I have my Xbox Series X next to it. But yea I was just concerned on that if it’s common in monitors overall. I hope it don’t happen no more. I checked the wires and etc. everything was plugged right. Sorry for writing a lot
Any word on an affordable 4K @ 144fps monitor coming out soon?
Nothing affordable yet. I'm on the hunt for an LG 27GP950 but can't find anything locally.
A 4K 144Hz monitor won’t be budget friendly any time soon for sure
@@jayzee2634 yeah, but imo 120fps 1080p is all you need. Especially if you have a small monitor.but if your on a tv then it might look blurry
@@Platinum199 yeah especially a 24 inch one, it’ll be perfect
Is there a huge difference between 4k and 2k?
@Chelsea Highlights you think 4k at 27 inches is worth it and big difference from 1080p?
@Chelsea Highlights so getting a 1440p is my best option?
This might be a dumb question, if I buy the LG27GL850-B can I play story games on 4K 60hz then switch it to 1080p 120hz when I want to play a competitive game ?
Can you confirm how the image looks downsampled to 1440p from the 4k input on the PS5?
Seeing reports of it being blurry and that's putting me off, or is this only an issue with the monitors that cause a 1080p output and then upscale to 1440p?
Also how about when it's outputting 120fps, isn't this then knocking the output down to 1080p to achieve this?
@@Craigzeh hey have you found out yet by any chance?
So if I downscale to 1440p can I still get 120fps or do I really need to use 1080P to get that on ps5?
what can you recommend playing warzone with PS5?
Also wondering this? Although I noticed people saying ps5 doesn’t currently support Warzone on 120fps anyway?
@@tomrayner3313 @Tom Rayner Warzone supports 4K and 60HZ. Currently it doesn't support 120Hz. Black ops cold war you can either do 4K at 60Hz or 1080p at 120Hz. I went with the GLA23-A. It's the 2nd monitor but the cheaper one without all the extra usb ports. It works great. I prefer 1080p and 120hz for FPS if supported like Cold War. For warzone 1440p at 60Hz still looks awesome. I don't think 4k vs 1440p is much of a difference on a 27 inch screen given the pixel density as compared to a large TV.
They should have also put a display port on the consoles if they really cared about gamers so they want us to pay over a 1000 for a monitor or tv thanks for giving us options im playing on the Samsung 1440p hrd 144 monitor g70
Ok but why couldn’t they just let PS5 support 1440p resolution?? Is there something I’m missing?
I wish they just supported it too...COME ON! The Xbox has supported 1440p since launch.
Matthew Mora as long as we get an update to fix it soon I’ll be happy 😂

Lg is offering a 4k120 hz with hdmi 2.1 its the LG 27 gp950 b. It will be out soon.
Can you describe the difference of the quality between downscaled 1440p and true 4K? Right now i‘m searching for a good monitor and ordered the 850 and an 4K from BenQ, just to test them both. But they will arrive in a few weeks..
What are you confused about? The ps5 will output 4k but since it’s only a 1440p monitor you can you only see 1440@60hz but then you can also play 1080@120hz
@@rafaelcendejas1087 there is no confusion. I just want to know if there is a big difference between downscaled 1440p and true 4K, since 27“ is not that big and there might be almost no difference.
If so, i would prefere 1440p - good „4K“ quality in 60hz and the option to use 1080p with 120hz :).
@@lolbob0815 oh okay I see what you’re saying. I have the same question I have always played on a 1080 monitor and this is going to be my first time upgrading it since I have the ps5 I think the 1440p monitor seems the most interesting to me.
@@rafaelcendejas1087 i‘m in the same situation :).
I made a new order, tomorrow a 4K / 60hz will arrive, wednesday the 27gl83a (without the USB). So i will report you if you‘re interested.
Do you rate curved monitor for ps5?
So the budget lg monitor also has a downscaler built in? And is the same as the middle one you shown just no type c ports?
