it is hard to get people to work together and do this event. However, I found a way to get 8 people together extremely easy (my most recent video). All you need to do is convince them :)
Literally did this a couple nights ago and it was the best experience I’ve ever had playing this game. It all started when we were in pursuit of a grade 5 Athena right after a veil and another ship put up their alliance flag as we got closer (we went right by an outpost while chasing the Athena crew and these guys happened to be there) so we allianced with them mid chase of the other ship hoping they would help. They also happened to be allianced with another crew. After noticing we were a 3 crew alliance, I convinced everyone to try to get one more crew to join us for glitterbeard. Everyone was on board. Surprisingly, the ship we were fighting with earlier decided to join and forget about the loot. None of us had done it before but some of us, including me, knew the general gist of it at least but not all the specifics, so I was trying to figure everything out as we went. Took three attempts until we finally did everything right for the door to open. During that time we wasted though, we just messed around chatted about how crazy it is that we managed to get such a big group together for something. Also I purposefully avoided spoilers, so needless to say the song added a little extra moisture to my eyes than usual.
Probably the most wholesome part of any game I've ever played. Truly a beautiful sight, in memory of a beautiful human being. Rare is an amazing company for putting this in the game. Such an act of friendship on a sea full of enemies. No lie I teared up like crazy doing this knowing the meaning behind it.
I want to love this video because of how amazing and emotional this event is and it is great you got a group of people to commit to the task such an amazing way to experience this. But the Developers have been asking creators not to spoil the event for people, and promote that the audience experience it themselves. I think this video is good, to let people know it is there, but I think it would be better to do it up to the instruments before the tree starts and leave the rest for people to experience in game and continue your well-done and respectful explanation of who this was for, James White.
I did glitter beard on community day, ran a reaper brig and forced a server wide alliance. was just sailing around doing world events when I saw 3 of the 4 ships at plunder.
Reminds me of when I did it. That song always brings me to tears, especially with the vocals. My Glitterbeard adventure unfolded pretty much the same way too.
Maybe if fewer sailors played sea of thieves like CS:GO: On Boats we'd have more than 1% of us completing Glitterbeard lol. Really makes for a truly special moment when it does come around
Something about this game and it's community is truly unique. When it can benefit you to sink your enemies, but also benefit you greatly to team up with them while also on a team dependent on each other to survive in a game where microphones are so important and widely used...it creates situations like this that are just one of a kind. Truly captures the spirit of adventure.
I remember leading this event two or three times for adventurers, Every time I do this event I tear up. Rest easy James. Your legend will forever stand!
My friend and I were able to get Glitterbeard today during Communtiy Weekend of Season 9 with another duo sloop and a Galleon while doing FotD with Skulls of Destiny. A great thing to have happen during Community Day/Weekend. It really does tug at the heart strings
First day of owning the game and I got kidnapped and brought to the tree to play the banjo. Didn’t know what was happening but it was great and now I have some funny gems in my beard.
I had never heard of this before actually doing it, I was helped out by a crew of pirates when I was just solo sloping and having a bit of a rough time. When I encountered the group I thought for sure I was dead and the little bits of treasure I was hoping to sell was going to be taken. But luckily they didn't just murder me they tried to talk, and after messing around with my mic I managed to talk back and we had a lovely chat and I joined their alliance and doing so gave them enough people that we could do this quest. Honestly, it was the first time meeting a friendly and kind crew. I won't ever forget it.
Brought me to tears upon watching this. I honestly wish 1 day to experience this in game not for the cosmetic, but for the event itself. Guess im also a big softie for good songs, especially songs that commemorate a great developer that shaped Sea of Thieves. Update: I was able to experience it today, a month after i wrote this comment, with 7 other pirates. It was amazing to see and hear it for myself. May you be at peace Glitterbeard!!!
It's cool getting to see this finally, because I know as a solo sloop for near 100% of my game time, it's extremely unlikely I'll ever be able to see it myself.
Completed this quest tonight in beautiful fashion. My galleon crew and another were fighting, and I boarded their ship and they brought up glitterbeard in the middle of our fight. We called for a cease fire and came together so we could experience this wonderful tribute. A true representation of the rare yet pure camaraderie in SOT.
As someone who has Glitterbeard as well, I can agree that the process was astonishingly beautiful. Me and my cousin met an alliance of 2 brigs doing an Ashen Lord event, and we all decided to ally to do Glitterbeard. Mind you, we were about a week into the game and didnt know the story behind the event. Love to see it though! RIP to a LEGEND!
This puzzle alone brought me to tears. I heard of the item and wanted to get it because it was rare, but then I delved into the story further and realized just how sweet it was. I made some actual lasting gaming friends doing this and we took screenshots, goofed off, shot fireworks, and overall celebrated and now I'm so happy I did it. I have since played Becalmed at least once every play session to commemorate and have been nearly brought to tears by it. It's times like these that help me realize that, past some of the toxic players, buggy mechanics, and inconvenient spawns, there's a loving gaming community and a game dedicated to basically just being free to do as you please. A true game to symbolize freedom of choice. I may not be good at PVP, but I think tomorrow I'm still gonna try to represent the Guardians of Fortune, as they really do encourage the freedom this game has given me as a retreat from some sadder days in real life.
Me and my friends ran into a 2 ship emissary one time and they proposed glitterbeard. As soon as they did, I remembered it and was so eager to do it. One of the people who helped us had already gotten it, so they were just helping for fun. My friend was selling something to a nearby outpost and by the time she had gotten back to the island, there were only about 10 seconds left, with no more than 5 seconds remaining, we all started playing the song, and the event started. I doubt I will ever take off that beard.
When i saw the Gliterbeard event for the first time and learning the meaning behind it i actually shed a few tears , Rare is amazing for all the small details they put on the game that each has a meaning to it.
I did this for the first time a few weeks ago and it was such a magical experience! 100% recommend everyone to try this as experiencing it yourself in game is such an amazing experience.
I believe the thing that makes glitterbeard so awesome is the fact that not only is this event incredibly atmospheric, but also just a feat of collaboration and wholesome vibes in a game where killing each other over and over again is normal
i did this just a couple weeks ago, a voyage starting off with me and my friend fishing for battlegills, a galleon shows up, we make peace and fish while they do the fort. a bit later, we're still fishing when another sloop joins the alliance. they tried to betray us for a chest of fortune, but we were lucky enough to find another sloop, and we wasted no time heading to plunder valley. it was a truly beautiful experience. i had goosebumps from the start, and a tear in my eye by the end of the song. if anyone has the opportunity to do this, do not pass up on it. not just for the achievement, but for the experience
Damn man. You can really tell that the people at rare truly care about each other. What a heartwarming send-off to a late developer. The second the vocals came in, I just lost it...
I remember doing this lol, started out as a huge galley fight but we all became friends decided to do it and they wanted a rematch, but after this no one wanted to fight it was to wholesome. One of my fondest memories in this game.
Getting the beard and doing the final part of the quest was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen in a video game. This alone makes sea of thieves my favorite game, not to mention the rest of the game.
I managed to do this tonight!! I came from about 6 hours of Tall Tales and general game play and saw a L5 Reaper on the map that was in the same spot for a while and decided to end the game by giving my day's supplies to them. As I sailed over to them I set off some fireworks and suddenly I heard multiple voices and a ton of fireworks. To my surprise there were 7 players on the Island and they just needed 1 more to do Gliterbeard! Was also my fist time and was soooooo cool. Best ending to a day of Sea of Thieves ever.
The most sad thing about this... that number should be higher than 1% as JW intended... but players refuse to get along for long enough to complete the tribute.... whether that be because other players interrupt the tribute for sheer spite, players deciding to bicker rather than come together and make a decision on how to place eachother, players quitting because someone messed up mid song.... people have to understand this isnt something to be done lightly... its in memorial to a legend not only in lore but in real life as well.... it takes peace, it takes determination, it takes teamwork, and probably most importantly it takes patience.... im not exaggerating when I say it took me about 30-40 attempts to complete the tribute.... and once you complete the tribute your task isn't finished because when you wear that beard you must honor everything it stood for.... I wish luck to those who have yet to pursue this. RIP JW.
After playing this game for many years I have started to really enjoy finding friendly pirates and alliances with them. Used to just sink everyone on site but now my crew is friendly to all that are friendly back
This is such a cool Easter egg. When I did glitterbeard with a group of people, we ALSO had a ancient skellie spawn, I thought it was so cool seeing someone else have it spawn when doing glitterbeard
I got lucky one eventful Monday to come across a really wonderful streamer/youtuber who gathered enough of us to do this. James will rest in peace knowing the legend of Glitterbeard will be remembered fondly by all those who experienced this touching tribute to him.
I remember doing this after they brought it out, I stood right where Anna de Aquatic was standing. It was such a beautiful tribute to their fallen comrade, amazing. May James White, Glitterbeard rest in peace.
@@ToxieSinclaire the people I did this event with in game are now friends I play with almost daily. Great Easter egg type thing and what a song it plays 😍

I actually got this one. A while back. One of my favorite moments in the game getting so many crews together. I even have the entire stream video where I did it with my friend on my channel. It always makes me cry a little when I listen to the song. Though my condolences to you as I know just how hard RUclips likes to flag the song.
yeah the songs an absolute tear jerker 😭 and my go to pick when playing random shanties now hahaha and yeah it's content ID flagged but it's allowed to be used and monetised, with split revenue. but I have no intention of monetising this video anyway
@@ToxieSinclaire Yeah. I didn't either. No reason to monetize something this special to many. But honestly even if sea of thieves was just this single event. I would still pay full price for it.
This brought a few tears to my eyes and makes me really want to do it but I don't have a community of people to try it with and most people attack me on site in the game.
Every time I help an alliance do Glitterbeards Memorial the song for it makes me want to cry, and I'm NOT an emotional person. That's the power this easter egg has over me XD
I did this with a group of my buddies we all got sea and always fill each other’s crews and have had so many adventures doing this was like opening a new chapter to our pirating career especially after just hitting PL
I actually did this earlier this year and like it was just a ship with people on board sailing past and they were just like, HEY DO YOU WANT TO DO GLITTER BEARD? and then as someone who knew immediately knew what it was all about and had gotten all books read I knew that I had to go with them and it was such a beautiful moment when we actually did it. One other reason I had to do it was to 100% Legends of the sea again as well and I'm proud to say that I did it, and it was also with my friend who killed the shrouded ghost with me.
I didn't even knew that this would exist until last community day where a 7 man Brig was comming towards us just to ask if we help them getting the beard (They came accross the map because we were reaper and that made us the easiest ship to find). That lucky situation made me a proud owner of that beard and we hang around with the other crews for around an hour until our ways seperated again
I’m in the top one percent as well. Took us so damn long to organize the crew and everything, and multiple attempts to play, but man.. it was worth it.
I've had one other crew bring up the Glitterbeard event, a Galleon crew loaded down with fireworks and using the party boat cosmetics. Sadly never got around to doing it, they signed out shortly after I met them. Hopefully I'll get to run the event one day.

I did this a while back! It was like herding cats trying to get everyone to play the right instrument in the right place at the right time, but the experience was worth it. I still wear the Glitterbeard to this day.
I was doing a mission with 3 pals one time, and these chill guys came over in their sloop and made an alliance with us, which they went off and found another sloop to enlist. The captain of the first sloop came back and asked us if we wanted to do glitterbeard. Keep on mind my pals and I are about a week or two new to the game, so we agreed. It was the most wholesome moment in this game I've ever had.
I have participated in this. It was an amazing moment with some crews not killing eachother. But peace. It was an amazing experience and im glad i withessed it.

I doubt many people noticed but the dragon quest 9 music was an awesome touch for tha background music
I loved the event. I did it on community day with some fun chaps. Really special
Perfect time to do the event too! I hope it was a special day for you 💖
As someone who has Glitterbeard as well, I can agree that the process was astonishingly beautiful.
I remember doing this myself, I actually cried during the song part. Such a beautiful tribute, may you rest in peace James White aka Glitterbeard
God the song part caught me too! Was not expecting lyrics half way through!!
I’m not crying, you are.
I remember doing this lol, started out as a huge galley fight but we all became friends decided to do it and they wanted a rematch, but after this no one wanted to fight it was to wholesome. One of my fondest memories in this game.
My heart melts everytime the chorus kicks in.
beautiful moment and worth having to fix sleep schedule AGAIN. was so fun sharing the memory of glitterbeard with you and chris
HAHAHA Thank you so much for joining us that evening Fisk! Couldn't have done it without you! 💖
I just joined in on this happening, it really touched me tho. Fly high glitterbeard🕊🕊
RIP JW.
absolutely this. I'd be lying if I said my perspective on SoT hadn't changed since completing Glitterbeard.
Well said 💖
That is probably the coolest homage to a developer I've seen in any game. I need to own this game now. It always looks so fun
I didn't know Sea of Thieves could be this damn beautiful. Just tore my heart in two
here you go, I'll repair your heart 💖
@@ToxieSinclaire thanks i rlly needed it
After playing this game for many years I have started to really enjoy finding friendly pirates and alliances with them. Used to just sink everyone on site but now my crew is friendly to all that are friendly back
Also doing this was one of the greatest things I’ve ever done on the seas, it was an incredible moment
thankfully my first experience with this event was in person, its one voyage i will never forget.
This is such a cool Easter egg. When I did glitterbeard with a group of people, we ALSO had a ancient skellie spawn, I thought it was so cool seeing someone else have it spawn when doing glitterbeard
Glitterbeard gifts it to calm crews that have come to pay tribute 😭😭😭😭
I got lucky one eventful Monday to come across a really wonderful streamer/youtuber who gathered enough of us to do this. James will rest in peace knowing the legend of Glitterbeard will be remembered fondly by all those who experienced this touching tribute to him.
Wow. To think that there are such games with such events… really wish to see more wholesome stuff like this in multiplayer games.
I've not heard of another game do something as wonderful as this 🤔
I remember doing this after they brought it out, I stood right where Anna de Aquatic was standing. It was such a beautiful tribute to their fallen comrade, amazing. May James White, Glitterbeard rest in peace.
ah, that's where Fisk was standing! Yeah she had a good view and watched a Skelly Fort get completed while we played the song hahaha
And well said 💖
5:10 I get chills every time the vocals kick in
me too, I didn't know much about the event before doing it so I was caught off guard when they kicked in 🥰
@@ToxieSinclaire the people I did this event with in game are now friends I play with almost daily. Great Easter egg type thing and what a song it plays 😍
I had that beard almost since i started, and i never new it was so rare, i still remember the server alliance telling me to do it when i was a novice, it was magical
perfect introduction to the game imo 💖
I got glitter beard 2 months ago, it was a pretty awesome experience. I did not expect it to be so theatrical and sad in a way. 👍
it's absolutely beautiful 😭
Duuuuuude the dragon quest music in the background within the first 3 min sent me thru nostalgia 🤣
I actually got this one. A while back. One of my favorite moments in the game getting so many crews together. I even have the entire stream video where I did it with my friend on my channel. It always makes me cry a little when I listen to the song. Though my condolences to you as I know just how hard RUclips likes to flag the song.
yeah the songs an absolute tear jerker 😭 and my go to pick when playing random shanties now hahaha
and yeah it's content ID flagged but it's allowed to be used and monetised, with split revenue. but I have no intention of monetising this video anyway
I was lucky enough some random people appeared and asked us to join them on this adventure it was really nice
Every time I help an alliance do Glitterbeards Memorial the song for it makes me want to cry, and I'm NOT an emotional person.
That's the power this easter egg has over me XD
The glitter beard is my favorite cosmetic and is the only thing that I don't even question keeping when I change my pirate's looks.
i remember dong a shrine with a friend and 3 crews came over and asked us to help with this! it was truly amazing to see
hahaha that sounds absolutely perfect!
I did this with a group of my buddies we all got sea and always fill each other’s crews and have had so many adventures doing this was like opening a new chapter to our pirating career especially after just hitting PL
aww thats the perfect way to celebrate reaching Pirate Legend!!
One other reason I had to do it was to 100% Legends of the sea again as well and I'm proud to say that I did it, and it was also with my friend who killed the shrouded ghost with me.
damn you got the glitterbeard AND the shrouded ghost title what the hell lmao
I didn't even knew that this would exist until last community day where a 7 man Brig was comming towards us just to ask if we help them getting the beard (They came accross the map because we were reaper and that made us the easiest ship to find). That lucky situation made me a proud owner of that beard and we hang around with the other crews for around an hour until our ways seperated again
I’m in the top one percent as well. Took us so damn long to organize the crew and everything, and multiple attempts to play, but man.. it was worth it.
A short video but a special one ❤ , thank god you didn't start shooting at those ships
god could you imagine! hahaha
This brought a tear to my eyes rip glitter beard you will be missed
As a solo slooper who had gotten 2 sloops and a brig to alliance long enough to do glitterbeard was awesome.
Just got glitterbeard last night on stream, what a way to spend community day!
I've had one other crew bring up the Glitterbeard event, a Galleon crew loaded down with fireworks and using the party boat cosmetics. Sadly never got around to doing it, they signed out shortly after I met them. Hopefully I'll get to run the event one day.
You'll get another shot at it for sure!
Wow, I always knew this guy had good content, but no subs???? Now he’s getting up there, nice job mate!
aww thank you!!! 😭
congrats on 1K!
THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR SUPPORT 😭💖 On to the next milestone!!!
what a warming heart experience to find out company who cared about theyr beloved developer , cause sometime for them you are just a number , and insted they commemorate the glory of our "pirate soul" developer , and we are really glad for what he did to the game , and for us to enjoy it , rest in peace James White , our beloved developer
Exactly. It shows us how much Rare care about their fellow developers, and just how special they are as a company and team.
The most beautiful thing I've ever seen in a game
He was also known to gather other crews at the end of the session and everyone would play that song.
That's the mosz beautiful and wholesome easter egg I've ever seen in a game. W Rare
So THAT'S why I've been seeing his journals all around the place. I wondered where he was!
I did this a while back! It was like herding cats trying to get everyone to play the right instrument in the right place at the right time, but the experience was worth it. I still wear the Glitterbeard to this day.
HAHAHA That's quite the apt description!!!
Glitterbeard is the one cosmetic I’ve never taken off. I’ll never forget all 8 off us standing around the tree when it lit up.
never expected Emperor Palpatine to say this
I was doing a mission with 3 pals one time, and these chill guys came over in their sloop and made an alliance with us, which they went off and found another sloop to enlist.
The captain of the first sloop came back and asked us if we wanted to do glitterbeard. Keep on mind my pals and I are about a week or two new to the game, so we agreed.
It was the most wholesome moment in this game I've ever had.
such a good event ive done it twice and both times had someone explain the backstory it was amazing
I have participated in this. It was an amazing moment with some crews not killing eachother. But peace. It was an amazing experience and im glad i withessed it.
I have wanted to complete this commendation and achievement but there are so many sweats and trolls where I'm from that only want to sink ships for reapers and not enjot a heart-felt moment to this bearded legend of the seas.
Oh god, how the hell did Rare make a game about being a pirate so damn beautiful and tear yerking?
I almost shed a tear during becalmed.
Rest well Glitterbeard ❤
