    I’ve been looking to incorporate slide protecting in our HS offense & this just made it much easier for me to do it! Thanks a lot Coach!

    You can have the step inside then kick at a 45 to cover both a gaps if they showing or come a gap. Call in pinch protection. The guards and tackle step inside if something comes they block it if not then the flare outside 45 degree angle ride defense outside. It protects a gap blitz but week off edge. Like wedge blocking for qb sneak but opposite

    Thanks, good stuff! You never pass block with the rb?? I think it may be better for a less experienced qb to just focus on the key read in the concept (Cb, S or LB) and the rb dual read mike to sam. What do you think? Thanks again, i'm learning lots of thing from your channel.

    I tryed different ways of Protection! What will most of the times work is, put your Y Receiver not that long Way to a Out Route. Take your Flanker on an fade and put your Y behind the B Linebacker, couse your Halfback will be most of the Time uncovered....

  • @PhillyEaglesFanatic
    @PhillyEaglesFanatic 5 лет назад +1

    Coach McKie How do you teach the zone side of your half slide to pick up their defenders? What are your rules, buzzwords, etc? IIRC yall vertical set, which allows the linemen to be patient and see what kind of stunts develop in front of them, so how do you incorporate that into the teaching?
    For example, say 1 tech works across your guard's face to hit the outside edge of the b gap hard, the end loops behind the 1 tech, and the backer scrapes to the c gap behind the end. How would your guys sort that out?
    Note: I know folks treat their pass pro as if it's a matter of national security...So if you can't divulge, don't sweat it #johnjenkins...

    • @CoachMcKie
      @CoachMcKie  5 лет назад

      Hey Coach,
      It's not a secret like Coach Jenkins does...
      ...but I couldn't do it justice by typing it all out.
      Coach Joe Daniel does an amazing job explaining it here:
      ruclips.net/video/I_Gf5aCo1zg/видео.html
      As for the situation you talked about...
      ....we rep situations like this every day in practice so it becomes second nature to pass twists and stunts off. If you aren't doing it in practice then you are hurting your kids.

    Hi, coach thanks for the information. I have a question? In a 3-4 front cover 0 with all the LB's in the LOS with a imminent blitz, do you change the responsbilities of the OL in order to leave the man more distant to the QB and protect the playside of the read; or let the same assigments for all the offense (OL, QB reads).

    • @CoachMcKie
      @CoachMcKie  7 лет назад +1

      Coach Marin,
      We don't change anything. The quarterback knows that he needs to get the ball out fast because they are bringing 7 and we only have 5 to block. I don't change it because I don't want my guys to think too much.

  • @jimbohale5893
    @jimbohale5893 3 года назад +1

    What do you do when you are facing a 4 man front and you get a backside edge blitzer? For example... vs. a 5 & 3 on the slide side and a 1 & 5 on the man side... if they slant to the man-side (in order to bring the edge rush) and send the BS ILB thru the man-side A gap there's no one for him since the guard is locked onto a DT. Just trying to figure this stuff out!! Thanks for all you do, Coach!!

    • @CoachMcKie
      @CoachMcKie  3 года назад +1

      Great question coach. We have built in hots that the QB must know and we rep the piss out of them. So if that happens then the QB better hit his hot or his in a world of hurt.

    Coach McKie, do you guys make a call when the backers on the man-pro side show blitz early in the cadence? Or does it just become a catch-and-throw situation for the QB (take a hit to make a play).

    • @CoachMcKie
      @CoachMcKie  5 лет назад +1

      It's just a catch and throw. But you have to think...that linebacker is AT LEAST 5 yards away from the QB. So if he is able to hit the QB then two things happened: 1)QB held on to the ball way to long and it is his fault or 2)That LB is a STUD and we will be watching him on Saturdays and Sundays.

    • @ericmatthews9231
      @ericmatthews9231 5 лет назад +1

      Appreciate the reply, coach. I came up in my playing career in predominantly B.O.B. protection, but am going to a half-slide/combo pro this season. I'm fine with it becoming catch-and-throw for my Q, but I'm thinking of having my centre look away from the zone-side if a backer shows EARLY in the man-side A-gap. We're gonna make a line-call that then tells the 'back to now look zone-side B-gap since they're now without the centre. Just don't always want our offence to be dictated by the blitz. @@CoachMcKie

    Hey coach, I have learned a ton from your videos. When you are sending a play in how do you call it? what order? formation, motion, play? It is obvious from the videos you keep it bone simple. What does that look like?

    agreed, see to many patty cake blocking in high school. Pancake...not patty cake. If you can't block, then you can't throw. Also, hot shot screens will kill a defense when they blitz off the edge against 4 receiver sets. Oh, did you get the play diagrams I mailed to you with my variations of mesh and shallow?

    Dana Holgerson uses a zone blocking, from tape the best I could come up with is the center needs to be open, he is responsible for the A Gap rusher, if a defender is lined up in the A or straight on he is to hand off that block to one of the guards then be responsible for the A gaps, the tail back which lines up behind the QB is responsible for the opposite A gap. The other TBs are responsible for the B gaps and outside blitzes, the rest of the line is responsible for the B gaps and the C gaps. The idea is that everyone is responsible for a spot and not an individual, We want to establish an inside presence and send all rushers around the outside. In order to do this a very strong running back is needed, a guy with vision. I will be interested to see how this changes with Jake Spavital at the helm calling the offense this year.

    • @CoachMcKie
      @CoachMcKie  7 лет назад

      Coach Queen,
      I haven't studied Holgerson that much. Is he still Air Raid, or is he more of a power spread kind of guy?

    • @kevinqueen6246
      @kevinqueen6246 7 лет назад

      Yeah he still does that, he's never gonna get out of it either. Besides Hal Mumme Dana is the only one I study out of the college game for passing attack. It's real simple, what Dana is doing, they call plays with one hand single, first the formation is called then they look and see what the defense does then a play is called based off the defense. As best as I can tell, only one player is given a route and all other routes go off of that player. It's interesting. Now, of course, this year Jake Spavital is calling the shots I know nothing about him other than Jake coached Jonny Manzeil

    I always have my zone side to the QB's blindside. If we are keeping the RB in, he is always responsible for the furthest linebacker to that side, and the linebacker that the 3 man zone is responsible for shifts 1 over. That makes sure anyone the QB is reading for a hot throw is coming from his open side, and he should see it in time.
