I hate getting drunk, but I love that relaxing buzz you get after a few drinks. I think Logan drinks to maintain that light buzz to forget the emotional pain, ptsd and longing for all of his memories to return.

This is how people SHOULD drink but some don't and rather black out. I agree with you. I like the buzz. Someone once told me drinking is meant to be enjoyable so if you drink so much you forget the night or don't enjoy the next day, what's the point
You literally explained it in the first 5 seconds. It's a habit. Ppl often have habits that do literally nothing for them but it's a source of familiarity and comfort.

When I was addicted to Heroin I had a shitty dealer for awhile that would have hardly anything in what he was selling I would keep doing it because it took away the withdrawals but did nothing else beyond that. And i got to the point where my tolerance was so high but my money was so low I wasn't getting high at all.

He can get drunk genius. Hes been depicted as being capable MANY TIMES. He doesnt get drunk for long, and takes an exorbitant amount but HE ABSOLUTELY CAN... Nevermind the general idea of the placebo effect as well.
I remember a specific comic where he takes Spider Man to a bar, in which he was already absolutely wasted, before they went in. And the night devolved from there.

Oh Wolverine can totally get drunk "for about 60 seconds " at a time. He needs to drink the highest proof he can, in large quantities as quickly as possible.
Thats why he drinks so much. It'll only last about a minute so he needs to keep drinking.
Bad for the health? You literally just describe how his powers made it so that he gets to have all the positive effects without the negative health effects.
I mean he'd have to drink half a bar in a short time to get even a buzz. So its really only taste for him to enjoy it.

I like to think he can get drunk somewhat like a regular human just with some higher tolerance. His liver just heals the liver damage after it’s done it’s damage

tolerance to drinking isnt much of a thing. you get just as drunk as fast. but your body just becomes better at hiding it

I recall reading a comic where it said it took an extremely excessive amount of alcohol to get Logan (and Deadpool) drunk. Like, dozens and dozens and dozens AND DOZENS of cases of beer.

His healing factor isn't instant. If he keeps drinking, while he can't get drunk, he can still feel something.
people are conflating healing factor with super speed healing factor and its not the same, logan can get drunk like a normal person, just has higher than usual tolerance and if anything he gets all the benefits without the downside from drinking and doing drugs. i mean if he cant get drunk then he cant get drugged and weve seen plenty times where wolverine has been sedated, so it clearly does something to him, its not instant but its also not like superspeed where the effects are non existent.
loga has insticts and needs like animals have but his mutation isnt what makes him a an angry beast or rude,he has been through allot of mental and physical abuse thats why his animal side is often angry but when its calm he is kind of like a wolf/human combo he is then at peace and just likes to run through the forest and play with and chase other animals.
he isnt nessaserly rude but he gets straight to the point and is honest.
logan can relax its just not so much in his nature to do so,and he drinks because he likes the taste of beer bourbon and wiskey,i kind of like the taste of rum/cola myself.

In the Flash tv show, there was an episode where his lab friend figured out a way to make a super strong alcohol to try and get him drunk because he has a hyper accelerated metabolism and can heal fast. He was only buzzed for a couple seconds then immediately sobered up.

Usually you drink because it taste good, and it's a thing to do while having a fancy dinner, or party etc. Logan might just like the taste. Even if he couldn't get drunk.
That’s the exact opposite of why many ppl drink most alcoholics even think it tastes bad unless it’s a wine or champagne but tequila or vodka or Hennessy or bourbon or whiskey all taste horrid but they know they will be drunk soon so it don’t matter

You say we see him drink a "moderate amount". But its pretty heavily implied that he's chugging down stronger stuff fast for a lot of the scenes where he's actually drinking to drink. And while he never looks drunk in these scenes I can buy that he's maintaining a light buzz though drinking what would make most heavy drinkers blackout drunk. Although other times, its as you say, a habit.
I don't drink. But I cook with alcohol all the time. I like the flavor it gives the food, perhaps Logan drinks for the same reason, he enjoys the flavor.

I don't really get drunk from drinking (also have something that requires me to have a doctors order at all time in the event I get pulled over as I will always blow over when breathalyzed).
Let me explain, I very rarely ever drink, only sometimes socially, or once in a blue moon for the taste as I like hard rootbeers (7% compared to the weakness of beer which is usually 5%) etc. Hate beer, only drink hard liquor, can drink vodka like its water and not bat an eye. However in the event that I do drink a lot at a given moment, it takes a ridiculously large amount of alcohol to even get any effect. This isn't just me saying this but actually got tested for it to understand what might be going on and why I blow over in when I haven't drunk in months.
Able to count drinks in 26oz bottles if I so wanted, and have done a few times, so very very high tolerance; helps being 6'2 as well.
So the reason why Wolverine would drink is due to taste, he likes the drinks he drinks. He lived for so long pop wasn't really a thing, but beer, ale, whisky, etc, all common drinks that growing up as social pressure he'd get used to. When your option is a stiff drink or shit water, I think you'd go for the drink; remember he's around 200 years old in the comics.
the term is Hemmingway, you don't show effects of alcohol until just shy of alcohol poisoning., but the reason logan drinks is because of the 300, plus years of life even with the times he has no memory of.

This has taught me alot about the properties and effects of alcohol. I've never gotten a hangover or blacked out where I couldn't remember doing something cause I was drunk and it's not from lack of trying as I come from a German family of heavy drinkers and am engaged to a woman who's family likes to throw get togethers with copious amounts of alcohol
Pretty sure wolverine can get drunk just like a normal person but his healing factor is constantly healing his liver which filters out the alchohol quicker than it can inebriate him.
Wolverine can get drunk it just takes a lot the amount that would take him to get buzzed would probably be enough to kill a normal human being

The flash is another superhero who can hardly ever get drunk, and if he did get drunk it'll just be for a few seconds.
Maybe you've never noticed it, but many forms of alcohol, such as beer, (Logan's favourite by the way) are both great tasting, and quite refreshing on a hot day.
Cigars also have a very pleasant smell and taste to many who like them.

Why can't Wolverine just have a really high tolerance for booze? Why does it have to be virtually impossible for him to get drunk?
Beer, wine, booze, etc have different aromatics and flavor profiles. They also have a heritage and story regarding their manufacturing. Some contain ingredients that are hard to find anywhere else in the world.
They tell stories. It's a kinda okay-ish hobby if you consume them in moderation and not letting them interfere with your work.

Logan can get drunk. It just takes vast quantities of alcohol to do so. Him being drunk and inebriated is what got him caught outside of a bar in the Weapon X comic. I can only imagine the bar tab amount that it would take to get and keep him drunk for a while. His healing factor speeds up his metabolism which is what makes it difficult for him to get drunk or take anesthesia. It burns through chemicals quickly. IIRC in the X-Men comics they had to develop special tranq darts for him since it takes a lot to put him down.

You know Wade Wilson aka Deadpool too had difficulty being effected by substances too.
Logan’s tolerance is the same way as Deadpool and Captain America like you’ve stated. But I like to believe that it is the placebo effect. Remember, Logan is hundreds of years old. People do like the taste of alcohol as well. That was one mistake in the masterpiece of Deadpool 2. Granted he was there all night and barely drunk. It is the placebo effect if you really think about it. But at the end of the day, it’s comics. It’s one of those things that you can’t explain because a different writer, whether it be movies or comics, come up with something different that fit the story. 🤷♂️
Don't forget he's also like over 200 years old, if body gets used to an alcohol it will lower it's potency, that's why old alcoholics with still working kidneys/liver can drink whole bottle of whiskey and it will affect them like if a non-drinker drinks few shots.

Don't we see in the comics that he CAN get drunk after enough drinks (or something strong enough), but he will almost immediately sober back up if he stops drinking for a few minutes.

For that matter... Why is wolverine even muscled up? Wouldn't his healing factor simply beef up his muscle mass where it was needed for whatever he was doing at the moment?
Healing factor would not grow him extra muscle. He can train his muscles way harder and use them way harder than regular humans as he doesn't need to worry about them tearing themselves apart. If you kept him immobile he would lose muscle mass and seeing his energy needs he would be starving real fast.
It's actually funny that people think, everyone who drink, drink to get drunk. There are people that actually enjoy a nice glass or 2 of something they like and that's it.

Cap has a healing factor too just slower than wolverine. Also cap doesn’t just have 4x the alcohol metabolism of a normal human, he has 4x the alcohol metabolism of a normal human his size with that much muscle volume. Metabolism is also an exponential function if it occurs inside the body of someone with a growth factor. So Steve doesn’t just metabolize alcohol at the rate of 52ml per hour (that’s just a factor of him having a sped up metabolism), in a normal human, the metabolism of alcohol is slowed down by the fact that it decays into a poison. It’s a built in feedback loop. But since, not only is the acetaldehyde broken down faster, the body of someone with a healing factor can also tolerate more of that acetaldehyde before throwing off alarms to slow down the breakdown of ethanol. So 4x faster doesn’t just mean 4x faster.

I've thought sbout this a bit and i think there is a ton of other reasons why he drinks. There maybe effects from it his body needs. Kind of like fuel for a car. It might stimulate his healing factor. It could even counter act some of the Adamantium poisoning.
He gets drunk in the comics, I think he has to drink quite a bit pretty fast but he can get drunk.
yeah he can get drunk, and high, and get effects from drugs, just when his body feels danger or is in healing mode it passes quickly, but healing factor is not the same as accelerated metabolism. only times i see him not getting drunk while drinking is mid healing because in that moment his metabolism is going at a million miles an hour, but normally he can get drunk and high, just doesnt last very long despite it having nothing to do with a healing factor.

If he cant get drunk, you have your answer there. He just does it. Like in X2 when he asked if there was any beer around and bobby said its school. Then he asked anything besides choc. milk? Obviously someone like him would choose soda over milk. Im sure alot of people would drink more beer if they cant get drunk and worry about a hangover if they have to work the next day or two.

Alcohol would be a good source of calories if you have a hyper metabolism. It's 9 calories per gram, and in this case you don't really get drunk. These guys probably have a hard time eating enough to sustain their muscles and general metabolism eating only sandwiches and other normal people food.
Or alcohol does work on him but the effect only lasts a few minutes so he has to keep drinking to keep buzzed
Oddly enough I have the same issue. I don't get hung over that much and when I do it doesn't bother me that much.

I have two personal theories for Wolverine.
Theory 1: While Wolverine does have a rapid healing factor, he does still feel pain, maybe even a small amount of alcohol can help reduce the pain.
Theory 2: If Wolverine spends every day with the aches and pains, perhaps the burn and sting of alcohol distracts from the pains of adamantium poisening.
actually, there was one comic where wolverine explains how his power works and he explicitly details how when he dies, he dies for real, goes to heaven sees his friends and family, and then is pulled back cuz of his healing factor, he also explains how he simpy got used to the pain when fighting or being hurt, but it doesnt mean it hurts any less. like wolverine healing factor is being treated like hes a speedster and hes not. just has a super advance form of natural healing due to his mutation. and while yes, that includes a fast metabolism, its not speedsrter levels. speedsters cant get affected by drugs ebcasue their metabolism is going as super speed, logan's healing factor doesnt work that way, also if a speedster gets shot in the head, they done for, logan comes back two different powers and fucntions to it and yet people treat it the same for arguments like this.
if I were in Logan’s position I would do everything bad for my health because why not? You’ll heal anyways and it won’t cause you any problems

I realize this makes me sound like an alcoholic, but booze tastes good. Drinking it to be inebriated is not the only use. Same for smoking stuff, although theres definitely an argument to be made that Logan's healing factor is not directly tied to his metabolism so breaking down substances takes longer than healing a cut. Guy has been knocked out by substances, and can retain a tattoo for a couple hours, so drinking hard liquor like light beer would still prove effective at getting a buzz going I'd wager.
I mean... Not everyone drinks to get drunk. I drink beer because it's good. Getting fucked up occasionally is just an extra.
This video made me think of something ... If Cap has a x4 metabolism, does he have to eat more too? And of course Logan's mutation makes this one weird but logically you would need to keep up some caloric intake to regenerate bio mass i guess so can he starve?
kind of, both cap and wolverine are from times where people didn't get to eat a lot, so they are probably able to function on less, though in logan's case, a tertiary mutation aside from his claws and regeneration is his wolverine mode, which gives him the animal like abilities, including raw meat poisonous plants and even blood consumption though it's detailed in the xmen encyclopedia if i remember correctly. not to mention the military training.

You don't starve yourself and magically get a reduction on how much food you need to survive like an endurance bonus. You just burn more or less fat and muscle until you got nothing left. Sure, mentally people adapt, but your body doesn't in the same way.
@@zaatas first normal people can enter survival mode on less than 500 calories a day, do it long enough and the gastroenteric band in your digestive tract will begin shrinking to ensure you don't overeat too quickly after coming off of a fast. second it does, not an endurance bonus but you can rewire your body to digest food differently, ask anybody who has done keto diets they can tell when their body is in carb mnode and in fat mode. also the boys were 1850's canadians, my history is a little rusty but if i remember correctly most people only ate breakfast and supper, in their day, luncheon was for people with money/ power
@@ethanbirling1115 Do you really think Captain America or Wolverine were in survival starvation mode for any significant part of their life? The 1850s was one of the biggest population explosions in all of human history. Food was plentiful, maybe not as much as it is today.
And that process is not magical, once you go back to normal food intake your body requires the same amount of calories, you don't get a buff like a video game that lasts for your entire life.
@@zaatas why are you talking about cap it's about why wolverine can't get drunk cap has the super soldier serum, and it's explained several times that logan and victor after killing their parents were fugitives on the run during the witch hunts and both were essentially werewolves, so yes they did starve, quite often as their mutations kept them alive past the point where others died.
