    Sinterklaas is not based on Santa Clause but Santa Clause is (partly) based on Sinterklaas. Sinterklaas has been celebrated for more than 700 years. Santa Clause only exists for 200-250 years. By the way in dutch Santa=Sint Clause=Klaas.

      @Frank-Leu Месяц назад +2

      YES, Biking is a way of live. Although not for everyone.
      For me it's highly important. I may not ride anything else. Not even a moped.
      For someone like myself it's way more than going somewhere.
      I ride my (E-)bike when I'm on holiday. And to relax (when the weather is good).
      And I need my E-bike for work. Not for getting to work but, pulling my flatbed trailer to transport bikes.
      Or I ride an bike that needs to be tested. Or checked after being repaired.

    8:35 Sinterklaas does NOT resemble Santa Claus. Sinterklaas is actualy short for Saint Nicolas (in dutch Sint Nicolaas), a Turkish bischop which came to the Netherlands with the Spaniards. And Santa Claus is actually a (norwegian) version of Sinterklaas! Hence in America is said Santa Claus comes from the 'Northpole'.

    Pretty good video overall. It certainly sums up a couple of unique Dutch traits.
    A few more;
    1) The Dutch have a vast amount of dialects - sometimes even cycling 15km will get you to a town where a different accent is spoken. Some accents are so wildly different that Dutch speakers can hardly understand them.
    2) Orange fever extends well beyond the King's day. It's particularly strong when Dutch national teams, Olympics, or, for example, the current Max Verstappen matches are going on.
    3) (party-) Hard drug use in the Netherlands is extremely prevalent. XTC/MDMA are very commonplace at parties, festivals, and even clubs. Mushrooms and other psychedelics are also legal to obtain in so-called 'Smartshops'.

    Realy? Tulips, Windmills and Cheesemarkets? Have you been living under a rock for the last fifty years or so? Why did you leave out clogs? The Tulips are mostly grown for export to other countries such als the USA and the rich oil-exporting-countries of the middle east. Most of the windmills are out of order and of the working windmills they are kept in working order mostly for tourism just as the cheesmarkets only exists as a kind of tourist performance. Do you know what's normal in the Netherlands? ASML, the largest en most important industry for machines that can produce computer-chips. The world wide known brand of Philips (now declining and hardly to call Dutch anymore but) where the Compactdisk was invented. The world wide most productive agricultural land (per acre) for dairy, greens etc. The most connected population on the internet. That is normal in the Nethrelands. And no, although legal, prostitution is not completely normal in the Netherlands. It's still rare and that's why it is concentrated in areas like the Amsterdam red light district. We only don't make a fuss about it. BTW, do you know why most Dutch men, if they do, visit a hooker once in a while?....no?...To fuck!. And this was heared in an interview with Gerard, a man who frequently visits hookers. When asked:"Gerard you're known for frequently visiting a prostitute, is that true? He simply answerd:"What's in a name, what's frequently,... one day more frequent then others." Wooden shoes forever.

Don’t give the culture in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Den Haag or Utrecht as being Dutch. More often than not this culture doesn’t exist where I live. And I don’t want to be identified with those “habits” they are as alien to me as they are to “foreigners” Some things you mention I have never seen or experienced myself. I don't get why everything has to be made difficult. Many things have already changed otherwise it's racism. And when are you going to do something about Black Friday?No, nothing is being done about it, because we all think like sheep that we get a discount while we are being screwed hard. Long story short, leave everything as it was.Because who are the next victims the muslims because they have their parties like sugar fest. Will the party for the animals be on the doorstep because they slaughtered a sheep?In short, let everyone do their own thing
