Nice to see young couples today actually "get" what we lived through in the 70's & 80's. The music in these decades were indeed a reflection of how men treated women and love in a relationship was impacted by music. There were so many songs depicting love in this generation. Music was much bigger back then than today. Today everything is visual with smart phones and computers with only let you perceive what you think the world is like through vision. We created our world back then based on how we FELT and that was energized by music. Today tv and the internet is bombarded by news (negative) and we lived back then listening and feeling our way through life with music (very positive). This had a direct impact on love and relationships. People stayed together longer. The best advice I ever heard on longevity came from an old couple married 62 years. They were asked what's their secret to staying together and they responded, "We came from a generation where if something was broken, you fixed it rather than just throw it away..."
It does my heart good to see young people appreciate this kind of music and the 70’s/80’s era. We have 4 children (28-32). I was in high school in 1980 when this song came out. Everything you said was true. My father was a man’s man, but he was very loving towards me and my brothers and our mom. My brothers and I masculine, strong, protective men, but we have no problem showing love to those in our lives. People got along better back in the 70s/80s. People were happier. Relationships were closer. You simply don’t see that nearly as often now. It breaks my heart that this generation will miss out on those types of qualities in society. Thank you so much for sharing your insight on this. Your parents have to be proud of how mature you two are. God bless.
Absolutely still love this song 40 years later, makes me teary. The most heartbreaking line is when making love to his wife he still sees her face. Sad for him and his wife.
no it's really not sad for his wife she will never know! doesn't mean he doesn't love his wife just means the other woman impacted his life and heart so much he will never forget her. he knows they are better off as friends.
I really miss all these "soft rock" songs that came out in the '70s. They filled the airwaves and created a whole genre of rock. There were several groups in this vein. sooooo goooood!
These guys were so smooth. If you haven't heard some of their other radio hits, check out "Biggest Part of Me", "You're The Only Woman", and "Holdin' On To Yesterday". Good stuff!
Chod I totally agree with your thoughts about music reflecting society and love the fact you put it out there. Major props for that. You are a good man.
Definitely my favorite Ambrosia song! The lead singer, Dauid Pack recorded a song with Michael McDonald and the late great James Ingram. It is called I Just Can't Let Go. Each of these gentleman has an amazing voice of their own. Together, producer Quincy Jones called them the "other" holy trinity because of their angelic voices. Definitely worth a listen if you get around to it.
‘Jesus Hair and Afros’ are all that we had going on in the 70s. Best times & tunes ever. And agree that we need more love songs. Too much anger, misogyny, selfishness and low esteem in most lyrics nowadays IMHO. Peace.
Greatest line ever! "I've never seen a group with Jesus hair and an Afro mess up a song!" I LOVE IT! And you are probably absolutely right! Great comment and great reactions!👍👍

Yes, Chod. The music certainly enhanced the feeling you had for someone, way back in the 2oth century. The music no is terrible in how we relate to one another. Sure, everyone plays the game, but I believe the endgame was to find someone or something that lasts. To have someone to share and build a life with. To a least take a chance. Today, it feels like just trying to get over on as many people as you can. It's truly a sad system of affairs. Next up, HOLDING ON TO YESTERDAY.
I feel as we leave this type of music behind, we as a society is getting more violent and more hateful. Is all about me, what do I it get? We need to get rid of the violence in our music and movies. I know that is never going to happen, but can only wish.
Don't be disheartened, good music is still out there, you just need to shine the spotlight on them. There's a couple of bands from my country that's bringing back those old school vibes blended with our indigenous/historic influences. Their discography is very diverse but their music speaks to our childhood growing up in the 70s & 80s, musicians playing real instruments, great vocals, live performances and smooth easy listening grooves. When available their live studio performances (Roundhead or Massey) are best. Here are some suggestions of that diversity - L.A.B - In The Air, For The Love Of Jane, Controller, Natural, My Brother, Fashion Dread, Why Oh Why, Under The Sun, Personify, Rocketship, Baby Will You Let Me, Mr Reggae, Proud Man, Ain't No Use (Live at One Love 2021) Six60 - Forever, Lost ft Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, Rolling Stone, Up There, Rest Of You, Someone To Be Around, Don't Forget Your Roots, Closer, Bitter End, Don't Give It Up, Vibes, White Lines, Rivers
You are so on point with the type of songs we grew up with. Love, fun, beauty, caring, feelings, living positively. Imagine growing up with these traits all around you and in the music. They are definitely projecting negativity, vulgarity and trash as the goal. You are so right about the positive role models for the men, they felt they could express their feelings and show love. Chod and Dee, rock was a kinder gentler matter then. Not that things didn't but there was more... respect, maybe for the ladies , and emotions were more warmly expressed. Thanks for the reaction. Not a bad drummer either.
I totally agree how great it is when the whole band sings back-up and harmonies or some even have their own songs - like Eagles, for one. Yes, Ambrosia is totally feel-good, chill-out music!
The founding keyboardist is Christopher North. His father was a math teacher, whom, was also the teacher that I took drivers training with, when they offered it in high schools. 43 years ago. Our car didnt have a radio, so Mr North let us use his boombox. All he would play was Led Zeppelin though. We didnt complain.
Music is a mirror of the world around it and lately there ain’t a lot of love going around so you’re right. When a society has no love, the music reflects that. That’s why I’m stuck in the 70’s.
This is one of my most favorite feel-good songs ever! I was somewhere about 5-7 years old when this song came out & it's definitely part of my earliest childhood memories. I remember my parents getting ready for work and this song (along with other bands like Styx & Little River Band) playing while I was waking up. This genre of soft rock is now funnily been dubbed as "yacht rock". There's even a cover band for this genre called, wait for it... Yach Roch Revue. They do national tours and everything!
@@onsesejoo2605 I made a typo as I clearly correctly typed "yacht" in the previous sentence. I certainly didn't dub the new name some use for the genre instead of "soft rock". I'm just stating that that's how I've seen it referenced. I appreciate the music and agree with you about the musicianship, very much so. I guess it could be the same argument that bossa nova jazz (which I love) is the equivalent of elevator music. While I value the genre way more than "just" elevator music because I recognize and appreciate the influence of African and Caribbean beats mixed into jazz notes, others see/hear it merely as such "elevator music" because they dont have a deeper understanding of the genre. And I definitely think the band Yacht Rock Revue have a healthy appreciation for the music since that's what they cover in all their tours. My comment also reflects on how this style of music was a backdrop to my earliest memories so I definitely don't have any negative thoughts, feelings connotations to the style.
There’s a very good reason this band is still touring but hasn’t released any new albums since 1982’s Road Island. That’s because David Pack lead singer here quit. The problem with Ambrosia is they were a killer Prog band who happened to write 3 very popular hit singles that saturate radio to this very moment and all or most of their fans like the rest of those 5 albums more. @@spookym123 depends on your perspective really. Ambrosia started in 1975 as a very sophisticated Progressive Rock band. People that bought their music did so because they weren’t trying to make hit singles for the radio. The next album in 1976 was Somewhere I’ve Never Traveled and it had a song called I Want To Know which wasn’t much of a hit. Their third album is Life Beyond L.A. and the closing song is How Much I Feel and became a huge hit. But keep in mind there are about 30 songs by 1978 that never got airplay and are excellent complex and demand the listener’s attention. It became clear radio wouldn’t play anything from these albums that wasn’t a hit single. Then they released One Eighty (1980) with 2 hugely popular hits You’re The Only Woman and You’re The Biggest Part Of Me and the problem with those was when new arrivals to the band were only hearing those same songs which exists right now. But, their earlier stuff was Prog Rock and excellent. One of their first albums produced by Alan Parsons- in fact, check him out too! Ambrosia- Somewhere I've Never Travelled, Please! You won't regret it...
"Jesus hair and afros ... " I'm gonna agree with you that if the group members are wearing one or both of these styles, they are a sure bet to be good musicians. May not be true, but I like the thought. Ambrosia has many good songs. The 70's were definitely a more traditional time as far as relationships went. Divorce rates were creeping up, but couples usually stayed together for the long haul. And love songs ruled the airwaves. Or at least were a major part of what was played on the radio. Love y'all's channel. Keep on r'actin .
What you said about the love songs is so true. But another thing. Young men were just much better singers back then. Bruno Mars might be someone who could have held his own.
There may be people who dont like any music because they may have been born with one or more of the five parts of the brain it takes for music to make sense.
Hey Chod your reaction are good but there is only one problem your song screen i to small come on now i might have to go to the store to buy a magnify glass. Please make your video screen larger i would appreciate bro....
tell ya what man. Songs and music had a bigger part in the romance of dating and such back then. Music and songs made a huge impact on the nights and trips w/the girlfriend or date. IMO. at least for me it did.
The fact that today's music is severely lacking any romance at all is why so many young people today are starting to groove on the music from my younger days of the 70's and 80's. This is why so many young people are confused today. Human beings today are starving for that ancient rite called romance and there is none of that in today's music. So glad I was born in the 60's and grew up on REAL music up thr0ugh the 90's. I might be 60 years old. but I know good music when I hear it. Want to hear a bittersweet song of love from afar? Try listening to Big Head Todd & the Monsters. Listen to 'Please Don't Tell Her'. Listen to broken 'Hearted Savior'. Need some spiritual music no matter your religion? Try Enigma's 'Innocence'. There's something out there for everyone.
You're right Chod about the difference in music then and now. It's not by chance - it's all part of the woke music industry's attempt to separate us rather than bring us together. 'Nuf said. And BTW, if you like David Pack, he sings lead on "I Won't Be Led Astray" on Alan Parsons's new album, From the New World.
I loved this song for decades. Until I really listened to the lyrics. The lyrics are kinda, a lot to unpack. I mean, he says he wasn't unfaithful, but wants to be forgiven? And he thinks of her when he's being intimate with his wife? Ew. And that's not cool, imagine his wife listening to this song, and thinking, wtf?! And the ex, does she hear this song and is she impressed that he still obsesses over her? Or is she freaked out about it? Yeah, when you really love someone, you don't hold them back, you let them go if they wanna go, but you also don't fantasize about them for the rest of your life, either. There's when you really really FEEL, and then there's the step ahead of that, when you get into psycho stalker territory. And this might be in psycho stalker territory. So, in regard to what you said about love songs back then, well, there's love, and then there's obsession, and it's a fine line, but it is all really about perspective. Or maybe I just shouldn't think about the lyrics so much. I mean, maybe it's just a song, and has no basis in reality? Who knows.
I agree and if you are still obsessed/in love with an ex, don't get married just yet. It took me 3 years to get over my first true love in the meantime, I did go out with other guys but didn't commit until I met my husband. I never think about my first love when loving my husband NEVER! Do I still care about my ex? Of course, only in a friendship way wanting him to be happy and ok. I had to do this for myself and my husband because I truly love him. He's not only my husband, lover, but my best friend too!
White male brother sorry to hear that your views on black male brothers not showing love towards each other directly and emphatically bums me out. I'm Irish dog and love all.
These old songs...I feel sorry for you youngsters...life was so much better back then. Today is nothing but violence, huge expense...little friendship with politics. Sorry but Biden is to blame! So glad to be outta the US.

But, their earlier stuff was Prog Rock and excellent. One of their first albums produced by Alan Parsons- in fact, check him out too! Ambrosia- Somewhere I've Never Travelled, Please! You won't regret it...
I get so tickled when you say Jesus hair and Afros 😅
My music, man. ❤

Biggest Part Of Me
Gotta be next!

Lordy, that song is one of the most romantic songs ever along with this one!
What you said about the love songs is so true. But another thing. Young men were just much better singers back then. Bruno Mars might be someone who could have held his own.
can you do a reaction to Dead Forever by Buffalo
There may be people who dont like any music because they may have been born with one or more of the five parts of the brain it takes for music to make sense.
Wilburn - y'all miss of the twist in the song right at the end
The 70s and 80s were the best.
Not much love out there anymore. Pax.✌️
1978--------------the 70's live on & on !! ---------------------MJL, 76 y/o
At 6:55 thats a tough lyric. I think weve all been there.
Hey Chod your reaction are good but there is only one problem your song screen i to small come on now i might have to go to the store to buy a magnify glass. Please make your video screen larger i would appreciate bro....
Have you reacted to Me and Mrs Jones by Billy Paul?
1975 holding on to Yesterday. Ambrosia
We did not hate each other then. We just had disagreements not vitriol
Yeah, it was pre-hookup, baby daddy culture. Great times really.
☮️❤️🔥🔥🔥🎵🎶🎵🎶...😎
tell ya what man. Songs and music had a bigger part in the romance of dating and such back then. Music and songs made a huge impact on the nights and trips w/the girlfriend or date. IMO. at least for me it did.
good days...ya missed out on some good ones young bro... but then again, if you were there then, you'd be old now like me and the bro's in this band 😅
Excellent points made, Chod and Dee! Young dudes are in crisis- and are getting horrid advice from misogynists. 😢
Hey chod, liked the comments after. Sounded very passionate. Check out Allen Stone. He’s pretty new and R&B
How many times did they say like ?
Quincy jones has said that Biggest Part of Me by Ambrosia is a perfect pop song
Y’all forgot about silk Sonic.
You just dont see that any more with everyone singing and playing instruments. Every thing is auto tune.

Is Bruno mars r and b
You changed your background.

The fact that you don't have on earphones is appalling!!
If you like the softer side of the 70s. Try Barry Manilow.
The only thing is the viewer would like to watch the video but too small to see because the video is small and you two are much larger then the video
thats to prevent the video from being blocked by the song owner
These old songs...I feel sorry for you youngsters...life was so much better back then. Today is nothing but violence, huge expense...little friendship with politics. Sorry but Biden is to blame! So glad to be outta the US.
