As a German, I love sausages. You also get a lot of smoked or dried sausages over here, like "Landjäger". You eat them at room temperature. Delicious. Krakauer are awesome, too. Lots of garlic and with mustard seeds. Great video.
I didn't know that curry ketchup sounds weird for an American. Very interesting to hear that :) In Germany we really grow up eating these sausages all the time :)
Lucky you, i served in Germany on three tours with the US Army, the Thuringer Wurst was behind the Iron Curtain...and you make it look so good!!! Russians must have valued their time in East Germany...now Germany, or Deutschland.... Thanks for some great memories. Yes I was a whole life Knackwurst and bratwurst nut!!! My mom is from old Prussia, born in Falkenwalde, not Pennsylvania... Married a nice southern Air Corps Sergeant and also learned to cook Sweet potato pie (to die for) and catfish!!! Mom became very southern for a Prussian. Her fried Chicken also... to die for!!! Peace!!!
I hate to be "that" guy who just sits back and points things out after you make these great videos, but I just have to say this. You really need to add Rindswurst to this list. That is the spicy red beef sausage that is mainly found in the Rheinland Pfalz region. Certainly the complex taste of the Rindswurst deserves a higher ranking than the Weiner! Enjoy your videos allot!!
First of all, one can have any kind of sausage with what ever ones like. If you prefer ketchup, just go for it. It is absolutely allowed. With one exception: the Weißwurst. This one you should only eat with sweet mustard. Anything else does not taste that good. "Käsekreiner" you can get all over Germany too. You do not need traveling to Austria. And "Currywurst" is, of corse, originated in Berlin. But there are variations out there. In Saarland (the smallest state of Germany), we eat Currywurst nor only with ketchup and curry, but with gravy too. It is a special kind of gravy. Normally some Shashlik pikes get cooked in this, which gives it a special flavor. And you should eat it with either "Kartoffelsalat" (Potato Salad) or "Pommes rot weiss" (French Fries with ketchup and mayo). Other than that... Enjoy ALL German sausages, 'cause they're all good.
Nurnbergers are the best!!! Love them at Christmas Markets!!! Also like Weiswurst with pretzels and sweet mustard!!! Missed going to the German Christmas Markets this year! 😢
I'm so hungry now! Looking forward to friday, the Currywurst day in the cafeteria at work, but I also recommend all the other Sausages you mentioned in the video, especially the Nürnberger Rostbratwurst, because they come from my hometown
I LOVE this video,, finally someone as excited about sausage as me !! I know it is a different country,, but some friends of mine were in the U.K. Today at the banger sausage festival in Norwich (lucky sods 😉) We are counting down to our month in the U.K. In December !! Cheers !
Oh , my goodness, the sausages in Germany will blow your mind! There are so many, different, beautiful , yummy sausages over there....., go try them, or order some.. you will like them!
'I am a Bratwurst'. I go back to your older videos and laugh! It was also very nice to see that while you travel the world over, you still love Savannah. We go to Charleston every winter and feel the same way.
Had my Thüringen Wurst in Eisenach, have to eat them in their homeland. In Darmstadt you need a smoked Mettwurst from Metzger Hamm. In Frankfurt West side you need to try a Fleisch Wurst, from the old Metzger on Hanauer Landstraße. If you like fish there is the Back Fish from the fish shop in Mainz-Kastell. Smoked beer is great, have been to Bamberg in the past there is a small factory there that makes RC Model sail planes, as I flew models many years ago and visited the factory to pick up my planes direct. Do miss my Donner’s ! Wish someone in the USA made them.
The Nuernberger are the best of all. No mustard; have'em with sauerkraut or potato salad. The Bavarian Weisswurst you should have with a sweet mustard, never sharp. Best Bockwurst is in Freiburg, with fried onions. Yum, yum!
as somebody who comes from nürnberg this is interessting to see what other ppl thnk about our food LOL i have to admit my favourite saussage is italian salsiccia i want to add... currywurst is no sausage its a dish! they use different sausages for this dish in every part of germany depending of the region...
You really should try Curry Wurst in Bochum. The sauce is far better than Curry-Ketchup and of course much better than any Curry Wurst from Berlin. :-)
Wow dude, you nailed it. Every major Wurst was in here. I'm from Thuringia, so you know my favorites, but all the others are quite correct. One of the best recommendations of sausages here on RUclips
YES! Nürnberger. I usually eat them with mashed tatters, herbal butter and fried onions. Fry the Nürnberger, then cut into pieces. Add the mash and make a little hole in the middle for the butter. Finish with the onions. Looks esthetic. But then I mix it all up and shove it in my gob. :) It is my lazy dish, when I don't want to cook much. Only takes 30 minutes and fills you for 8 hours. @Woltersworld: Do you know the dish "Wurst im Schlafrock"? I cook it with cottage in the puff paste, Wurst on top of it, roll the puff paste so the sausage is covered in the paste and then sprinkle some grated cheese on top.
Hi Mark, next time you're in Germany you should definitely come to Saarland and check out our meals. I bet you would love Lyoner, Schwenker and Käsewurst. Especially in summer you'll find it almost everywhere. Despite from that Saarland is a very own, welcoming and friendly place to be in Germany.
I just found your channel not long ago and I like your videos about Germany. And I know youre sometimes in Hannover. So I will make a few remarks about the Currywurst. You describe the Currywurst as a Bratwurst with Curry Powder and Ketchup Sauce. Yes, In many parts of Germany it is sold like that. But, to be honest, this "Bratcurry", as it is often named, is not the same as the real Currywurst, which is a bit longer and a bit more reddish. If you are in Hannover again, go to the Steintor, and I guess you already know the Bratwurst-Glöckle, a nice place for fast food until late in the evening. And just on the opposite side of the street you can see the "Wurst-Basar" opened during daytime. Both are great places for tasting the more reddish Currywurst. And to be honest, now, living far away from this real Currywurst, I miss it. A Bratwurst is still a Bratwurst, even if it comes with curry sauce. But a Currywurst is something special. Try it, and let yourself be surprised. Best regards Norbert | OpaSpielt
Hey I like your little Germany videos I really love Krakauer but you should try Berner Würstchen, these are Frankurters or Wiener in size of a Thüringer, filled with Cheese, wrapped in Bacon and grilled! You'll love them. btw “Wiener“ are called Wiener because of their inventor, whos last name was Wiener, not because of the city of Vienna ;)
Pretty ingenous method of counting to 5 ;). You completely forgot the Frankfurter Rindswurst. You'd eat that either boiled or fried, in the latter case it can be turned into a Currywurst variant. (Boiled is a bit more traditional, but fried is tastier, especially if you allow the skin to develop a little crust.)
Hi Mark, i love your videos so much. And one of the best sausages is the Würzburger Bratwurst. Made with Frankenwein. Its unbelievable! Greetings from Würzburg, Lower Franconia
@@woltersworld OK nearly right with the Currywurst but there is a specific Sausage made for making Currywurst. It is basically exactly the same as the Bratwurst but with different spices in it. Most places will in fact just use Bratwurst?
"there's a place I like to go" what's it called?! We are going to Bavaria for our honeymoon in December and will be going to Munich, Nuremberg, and Bamberg. Would love to check out some fantastic recommendations! :)
Trying to find out what a "Bier Sausage" is. Google says its not a thing....but at my local German resturant "Gustavs" they have a sausage called a "bier sausage" and it taste almost identital to the hotdogs i had growing up in central new york. Its more like the Nathans Famous type of hotdog not like the Oscar Meyer ones everyone eats.
I think it's not so much the casing, but the rule about Weißwurst dates back to times when no fridges were available. So when the butcher made Weißwurst in the morning, it couldn't be stored for a long time and although we can now put sausages into fridges, this rule somehow survived as tradition. So you usually don't get them after noon...
hey I love your videos and the Würste you shown today are all super tasty. My favorit one you unfortunaly dont introduced, its the Lungwurst, similar to a krakauer but the Brät is a mixture of pork and lung. Verry tasty! greetings from Stralsund, Pommerania
God bless the Currywurst! Managed to find somewhere to have one every day during my recent stay! Everywhere from street vendors to restaurants seemed to serve it!
At the sausage kiosks they have fries sometimes. But its not always easy to find non pork options at the sausage kiosks. Near by there will be another option without pork at a different kiosk. Germany is good like that
