The traction control in the Defenders is pretty good. Can't wait for the new model to come out and see how offroad capable it is - the specs are insane.
Have been very impressed with the ST MAXX. One of the best combination touring and offroad tyres on the market. Wearing well so far after 40,000kms including the trip to Cape York and some rough work around Lithgow and the Watagans.
Defender has stock suspension and you are spot on about the lockers - there are no lockers fitted on this vehicle. Amazingly capable vehicle right off the showroom floor. Mind you I wouldn't be against Santa bringing me a set of Corsetti extreme suspension mods but at 6,500 GBP - I don't think that's going to happen ;-)
The hard part with a general touring club is that most of the vehicles are daily drivers and used for both off-road and daily on-road duties. As a result, not all have lockers (yet). Having already spent around $20k fitting out the defender, they are on the list but just didn't make it to the 'must-have's' for the majority of the kind of touring we do in it. Hoping it will be part of Monty's xmas presents though ;-)
Great video - Defenders seem to have least trouble with this terrain. New one can be specced with terrain response - I guess that makes a big difference
The D4 does has a rear e-locker in it and usually makes light work of most sections. The wrong line can still make it work hard though and it actually got hung up on the first section for a while before it got through. I've only put up the highlights on this vid as it was becoming a very long edit trying to show every attempt.
The majority of our crew are family based and travel with kids so we try to produce stuff that's family friendly and safe for work viewing. Thanks for the props. More vids coming soon!
Jamie, nice Defender, looking really tough. How happy are you with your Cooper Discoverer tyres? A mate of mine just put on a set of ST MAXX's and we'll try them out at the end of the month.
Where are you in Canada? Swing by my driveway and you'll see a 200tdi 110, LHD with rear locker. If you want an auto, you'll be best buliding it yourself as there aren't a lot of automatic transmission Defenders around. That is, unless you go with a 1997 NAS 90 V8 or the occasional special edition in the UK. Great videos, BTW. I love seeing the D4 on the trail. I'd consider one if they came in diesel in Canada ... and if I could afford it!
The red Discover, are the tyres 235/85/16? They look like skinny 32's. Very similar sidewall height as 265/75/16 but they look skinnier than 265's. I want the 235/85/16 or 255/85/16. I am running 7.5r16 at present and skinny is the way to go..!! Totally converted.
+Misadventure 4WD Is it uncommon to disconnect the front sway bar while offroad? First thing we do in our jeeps unless we have electronic disconnect. No one seemed to air down their tires either.
for me the D4 and d3 are amazing on these tracks. the suspension on these huge holes is awesome. ridge didge. good stuff soldier.

Thanks again for a great vid mate. Awesome tracks. Just gotta drive them one day.

Well picked mate. The Challenger has a rear locker in it.
It does have a rear locker that makes a hell of a difference to it's capabilities.

The defender looks awesome
Have done it both direction in the wet and it can get pretty gnarly. One of my favourite little tracks though. Great fun.
Great videos. Nice to not have any music.
Most of the vehicles do not have lockers fitted. Only the Mitsu Challenger (rear locker) and the D4 (rear e-locker).
Tried Creek road in the wet? I've never done it when theres been dust, but in the wet its pretty interesting ;)

Another bloody good vid guys.
Thanks mate - still a little work to go but almost there now

Given the limited time I have spare to play with this stuff, I usually just throw them into iMovie or Final Cut Pro.
The D2 driver has the best vehicle to work with
Has the challeger TC?
Very very good vids mate ;)
That v8 sounds great!
muy muy bueno!! como siempre!!
The videos are so much better with the fj in them.
Once you get them you'll wish you got them earlier. It transforms your vehicle like DR jackel and mr hide at the flick of a switch...lol
great video!
ummm - yes.... well given that I led that section and most followed my line - I can't really say much about that can I ;-)
the lr3 where you find the bracket for the high lift?
still cant believe how easy the disco 4 makes the offroading look... any secrets?
Moses Bagumira Bwengye Just great technology. It really is cheating ;)

Kev runs 265/76/16's on the D2
Has Kev got the Red Discovery? They look much skinnier than 265's in the video.
does the challenger have a lsd ?
He is certainly the most experienced in the group but don't tell him i said so ;-)
It doesn't have TC unfortunately and the 4WD kept jumping out. A common problem with this model.
Looked to me like the Challenger had lockers.
The D4'may have struggled a couple of times by taking the wrong one..
Just love the V8 Disco
great looking defender
It seems newer defenders don't want to articulate as easily as older models or does this have hd springs?
+godzillaisnuclea123 yes they are mate. Also has sway bars fitted which reduce articulation significantly
+Misadventure 4WD Is it uncommon to disconnect the front sway bar while offroad? First thing we do in our jeeps unless we have electronic disconnect. No one seemed to air down their tires either.
good video.....
What wheels and tyres did you have on the Disco?
Poor Hilux though :(
What's the noise at 3:16?
Why no Mercedes G?
Is this in the NP North of Sydney ?
Sorry I missed this comment - Watagans in approx 1.5hrs north of Sydney or approx 30 mins south of Newcastle.
Thank You for Your answer!
All the best and nice trips, Wilhelm
(I loved Australia, its a long trip to go there....)
get some lockers and preserve your truck and the tracks...
Wrong line.......but you didn't have to point it out! ;-p
The big surprise to me is the challenger, there not supposed to be that good off road
Wow. Learn how to freakin drive. You dont just give it berrys on every obstacle. Unless you want to wreck something of course
