I heard a Christian teacher on RUclips who said that someone who still has same sex attraction is not saved; that they would not have that attraction any longer. I was so confused by that. Aren't we all tempted by certain things that others may not be? This was such a great interview. It addresses every question on this subject I have ever had. Love Becket and his show.

Some people when they are overwhelmed by the Holy spirit do have a complete purging of same-sex desires. When that happens it is great. There are many others who struggle, going back and forth in uncertainty and temptation. God understands that the struggle is real. The key I think is to recognize the temptation and flee from it.

Temptation is not sin. Attractions, both heterosexual and homosexual can both be temptations. We sin only when we dwell on our temptations and decide to commit it. Martin Luther described it like this (I am paraphrasing), "You can't keep birds from flying above your head but you can keep them from building a nest on your head." If we make the decision to always call forth the help of Christ as soon as we are tempted, He will give us victory over temptation (which is not sin). Sin is the transgression of the law. It is true that Christ talks about lusting after people is a sin. That is, to dwell upon our lust and refuse to give it up and proceed the thinking progress. If David closed his eyes and turned away as soon as he saw Bathsheba, would he have sin? I guess not. attractions can become sin if we lust after the person we are attracted to. That is why Paul instructed us to have our minds being captivated under the dominion of Christ.

Before Jesus I was a promiscuous, I was always looking for love with the wrong men and I was kind of alcoholic, you know “social alcoholic “. @Deston Swan so is it not homosexual actions when one man has sexual intercorse? Just the thought is gay...not the action? Dude all I'm saying is Jesus can transform anyone. Their heart, their desires, the wants, everything. He will take that heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. The Bible tells us to work our our salvation with fear and trembling. That means before a holy and righteous God, we ask him to help and guide us. He has clearly made a decision amongst himself and God. He's talking about his past lifestyle of being gay. One can be changed. One minute Paul was Saul killing Christians, then he had an encounter with Jesus! The next season he is went from killing Christians to preaching the gospel! Paul entered Heaven to the applause of the very men and women he killed! God is a changing God! He will change us if we let him. See Jesus had to give him a new name, a new identity! He was no longer that man murdering Christians. Now he's Paul who wrote 3/4 of the new testament. He's no longer the Christian killer. Just as much as this gentleman is no longer homosexual.

A VERY high percent of individuals living with these sin patterns have extensive sexual and physical abuse histories beginning commonly before age 5 (not all of them!) And the abuse/trauma cycles compoundas the bad choices progress. Getting medical help and therapy help is crucial to help them on their journey as God's grace is sufficient and sufficient means including normal resources. Nothing surpasses the truth of the Bible, may we pray for these lost souls and point them to it. May we have the humility to show compassion. @Deston Swan One might not be able to help having certain proclivities, however, everyone has a choice insofar as acting on or resisting them. Take Becket, for example: He mentioned that he still has “remnants” of sexual attraction to men, but he has chosen to disregard those feelings in favour of obeying Christ. His testimony falsifies your claim.
Matthew 16:24-26 (ESV) Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. 25 For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. 26 For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul?
With respect to your final thoughts: Ideally, the relationship between a parent and their child would remain loving and in tact, despite differences in beliefs and lifestyle, such as the example that is being discussed, but a parent’s adherence to God’s Word should *never* be relinquished in order to appease the sinful behaviour and desires of their child.
At what cost is it beneficial or wise for the parent to reject God’s commandments, and thereby risk their own salvation, in return for salvaging their relationship with their child? By putting their standing with their child above that of God, they not only spurn Him, but they elevate the importance of not offending the former (child) over that of latter (God). In other words: they make an idol out of their own child.
Becket and Melissa touched on this during their talk. Following Jesus comes at a great cost, which might involve severing relationships with loved ones. That is a sacrifice that all Christians need to be willing to make in order to abide in Christ. No earthly relationship can compare to the one that is freely available to all through Jesus. Our salvation is contingent on God’s grace. What good would it do to disregard one’s convictions and their obedience to God as a means of perpetuating a relationship of a loved one who is involved in unrepentant sin? One might save said relationship, but they might forfeit eternity as a consequence. It’s not worth both parties losing out on eternal life and ending up in hell, just for the sake of sustaining a finite relationship. Our earthly lives are fleeting, but eternity lasts forever.
Matthew 10:34-40 (ESV) 4 “Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. 35 For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. 36 And a person's enemies will be those of his own household. 37 Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. 38 And whoever does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. 39 Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.

44:50 when i received the holy spirit, there was a voice in my head saying over and over again "its true, its all true, every word in the book is all true", over and over and over again as i was born again. I was mesmerized by this interview. I have children raised in this new cultural trend of LBGTQ. I struggle to respect these kids choices (new names/hormone therapy w/dangerous drugs/disfiguring surgery). My child is straight, but a huge LBGTQ advocate to the point that a roommate is going through a trans male to female. She is seeing close up the problems that her friends transitioning is causing. Finally we could openly discuss the problems w/cultural ENCOURAGEMENT of LBGTQ.
As I am retuning to my Christian roots after a long journey w/liberalism/new age I pray for not only Jesus’s return but for the light of Christ to shine on all the cultural sexual lies that have been a negative cultural agenda to keep us from the truth of Christ. I especially appreciated the truth of the fulfillment of celibacy w/ intimacy of the Holy Spirit. God is stronger than cultural lies and this interview was living prof of this❤

They have kept communication with their daughter open, but do not buy into the trans (in this case, non-binary) ideology. And you're right, their daughter does threaten to cut them off when they do not affirm her new 'identity'. They desperately don't want to lose her. it seems like people would rather take an insane idea to the extreme, rather than accept our own bent towards sin. Thanks again, Melissa and Beckett. ❤

I'm going through the same thing as you. There is no incredible one moment for me and that caused me to have to rely on what the Bible says rather than what I feel.

What you want is the baptism of the Holy Spirit. If you haven’t already, ask God for that moment. Maybe you already have. If so, keep asking.. I did for a long time. And it finally came. When I was ready for the change and his timing arrived. Trust Him even when you don’t feel it. He is irresistibly attracted to his children who choose to love and trust Him despite not having the feelings. And many times, the feelings come. Ask Him for that but trust Him in the meantime.

My husband is a lifelong Christian, while I converted as an adult, and he's telling me the same thing! But I'd say, if you don't have such a moment it's because God is leading you another way and doesn't think it's necessary for you. It's important to know that the spiritual life is an ongoing struggle for everyone, including converts. But it's a very beautiful struggle and well worth it, especially as it leads to eternal life! So keep up the good fight!

@@priscilamartinez9732 I love your testimony, Priscila! Our Father in Heaven loves us so very much and He waits for us to find Him. Sometimes he helps us through the Holy Ghost, the Comforter, but He never forces us. We need to be willing to listen to that still, small voice that we can barely hear, sometimes!

Thank you to both of you! I really appreciate you Beckett especially for discussing such a "taboo topic" to talk about in today's upsidedown world. That is applied to both Christianity & homosexuality. God bless you & may God keep you, He will bring you His continued grace & love.

Thank you! Near the beginning of the video, when he was talking about being afraid of coming out to his friends, Romans chapter 7 came to mind. Then he said that when he first went to church in L.A., he heard a sermon on Romans 7. God's gospel truly is powerful. His Word doesn't return void.

What a blessing!!! Thank you, @Melissa Dougherty for having Becket Cook on: but especially for just having him tell a short version of his story! I've only heard tiny snippets here and there, but I really got a LOT out of this full on invitation for his story. There is so much I relate to, I hardly know where to begin. It might help to just say what I don't relate to: geographical locations, being male (I'm female), and schmoozing with the A list folks - but everything else I can relate to, including that moment of "I'm all in" and the puzzlement at people who would even BOTHER to waste a Sunday morning at church if they want to hold on to their sin. I say, "Go sin, then, and stop calling yourself something you obviously don't really want to be!" I mean, I LIVE for Christ. He is the only Good in my life (which shines through Christian friends and family members), He is my anchor, my instructor, my comforter, my counselor, my Hero, my Salvation, my very breath! If anything I long so much for the day when I am finally shed of this mortal coil (Shakespeare? Not sure of the etymology of that phrase) and I will finally and completely be whole and sinless through Christ's atoning work and stand before Him and be able to look on Him without having to look away! Wow! I mean, take everything in the world and even my life, and give me THAT!!!! So, yeah, I don't get the progressive Christians or people who want gay Churches. What's the point? Without Christ, pick your poison and enjoy it while you can because this truly is, then, your "best life now". Hell is ahead and all the good you'll ever have is whatever dregs you can find in total hedonism. I know, the payoffs are ripoffs, but that's all we have without Christ. Anyway, sorry. Just excited about Christ. Thank you both so much!
