- This week Gina & Joaquim rescue an Iberian Stork (White Stork) that was trapped in some sheep fencing on a neighbouring farm. This poor Stork got stuck in the fence and was in a really bad way when we found him. Fortunately it has a happy ending and he flew off into the skies after a well earned rest!

Here is a little feel good video for Sunday... Our neighbour Joaquim was ploughing some fields with his tractor and discovered this trapped Iberian White Stork, trapped in a fence.
They are a protected species in Portugal and its the first time that I've been able to see one of them this closely. I am so glad that Joaquim found it and called me to be able to document the rescue :)
They were in danger since then they are protected, it was amazing to see people that care, bless you guys

This old guy had a pet stork in the city my grandparents lived in. He had a broken wing that never really healed and would follow the guy around and mimic him. He would smoke a cigarette and the stork would go to his cigarette pack and steal a cigarette and put it in his mouth like it was smoking aswell. The stork would clack his beak when people clapped too. It was a smart bird.

We have had a lot of rescues on this farm over the last 5 years... not all of them have een filmed but im really glad to have captured this video today. What a sweet bird, and what a happy ending :)

Such an unexpected thing to have happened today. It was about 1 hour before I put the video up here. Was really special to get up and close with this large bird that is usually so far away from us to see properly. I'm so glad that we could help ir. And that he flew away on his own!
Joaquim is taking care of the land at that property, but im not sure if anyone lives there.
@OKportugal I've talked the Bird Rescuer hear on the island one day on the beach. There was a Blue Heron, they stand over 3 1/2 ft tall.. it had fishing line with tackle wrapped around its legs. He said we did the right thing by calling instead of us trying to handle it, the birds beak is so sharp it would cut us up and we would be taking to the hospital with lacerations to the bone. So them birds with them foot long beak or more have my full respect and I stay away!!!
@@melinda5777 I think Gina has a special way with animals, as we always help them, and they dont seem to attack us when we do... Apart from when the bees tried to kill me, and were constantly stinging me through my bee suit :D

Thanks Michele. Over the years we have helped a bunch of different animals. This was the first stork we have saved though.

She has no fear.Was funny as when she went to pick it up, Joaquim was warning that it might bite her. The bird knew she was helping it, I think ❤️
You are good people, the stork could feel that you were there to help, they are intelligent birds that live above us a lot of the time. I work in a nature reserve on an estuary with many migrating birds. You were great and Gina took it to the next level.... Teamwork!

How wonderful this bird had enough energy to fly off on its own. Less stress & a better outcome for sure! I Googled stork symbolism just for fun for every time I see a special bird appear I'm always curious what it means! This is what it said:
