One of the best drum solos in the history of Jethro Tull by Clive Bunker
Ian Anderson: vocals, flute, acoustic guitar
Martin Barre: Electric guitar
Clive Bunker: Drums
Glenn Cornick: Bass
John Evan: Keyboards

Clive Bunker and Ian Paice, both masters of what is becoming a lost art
Paice is awesome
One of my favorite drummers. Clive is often overlooked.
Jumpin' JAKE Flash Yes he is overlooked & that is a real shame....
And what about Mick Tucker?.....
He really is overlooked. He will always be my favorite Rock drummer.
Why is it just he was over looked ? The entire band has been.
Clive is often overlooked, Ian Anderson is often overlooked, Glenn Cornick is often overlooked, Martin Barre is often overlooked and John Evans is often overlooked
Being a fan of Jethro Tull, I have no doubt at all that Clive was their best drummer, by far.
Barriemore
Even John Bonham claim Barlow was the greatest drummer England ever produced.
Totally agree, well put
As a drummer, I totally appreciate what both Clive and Barrie did in Tull. Clive was totally untaught and raw; gaining his chops on the road. Barrie was more technically skilled and I loved both drummers here…✌🏻
Let's not leave out Glenn Cornicks blend with this great guy...at mid sixties I can't stop listening to first 4 albums
The mighty Clive Bunker. One of the most underrated drummers
His hand speed is phenomenal. His transitions are impossibly fluid. Drummers just dont aspire to this level of organic beauty and energy anymore. A lost art from a lost era...makes me wistful.
Thank the click track.
like as if he's
... ... ..
In other words: he's Great!
The loose tuning is so cool too the toms rattle and growl people play too dry and funky nowdays
Got to see him play with Tull back in 1971 just before Barriemore joined. Man what a night, as was the first show I saw with Barriemore! Excellent drummers both.
Clive Bunker just an absolute monster on the drums...
Clive,Bonghan.Peart,Paice,Copeland.Moon.,Ginger Baker .There'no WINNINg here.They"re all GODS....of drummer.They are amazing
Bruford !
Check out his left hand...never seen a grip like that! Like he's holding a pencil or chopsticks! Index finger, middle and thumb, almost dainty like. How unique is that? Gotta love this man!!
Awesome ! Ian must have been in heaven between Clive & Barriemore !
Maybe but maybe not. Anderson always thought he was God's gift to music and the other members of the band were replaceable.
the best and most impessive drum solo ever from my point of view! I have seen JT live in Rotterdam in about 1971, included Dharma for one. Unforgettable! JT my favourite!
One of the finest drummers of all time.
Legendary drum solo
I can say i saw him playing that way at Mogliano Veneto with Le Orme some years ago, shook his hand downstage after the show and asked for his signature. The most incredible thing is that i had a pizza with him in a pizzeria near Mogliano square before the concert! we were at the same table and i did't had any idea who he was! we start to talk about Le Orme and he didn't talked or mention himself all along the dinner: he only introduced himself as Clive and that's all! For sure a man down to earth and a great, great musician!
Vorrei essere te
Awesome story--he always seemed the least affected (to the point of being blase almost) member of the band (and that is saying something for Tull!)
Wow, 7 fools gave this incredible drum solo thumbs down? What more do they want???
After the tragic demise of John Bonham, there was some discussion that Clive Bunker was being considered as his replacement in Led Zeppelin. After seeing this video, you understand why.
kvernon1 I didn’t know that he was considered. I knew Barriemore Barlow was. Clive is a hell of an awesome drummer.
What an effin legend!
One of the very best. No doubt!
These older solos were always much more compelling. I love the dynamics in Clive's playing here. Also, times were different and crowds knew how to sit and appreciate a rare talent.
I love his playing. You can hear and feel his Baker and Mitchell influences. Paicey and Bonzo too. He made it his own. Nice to see the Ludwig Acrolite snare there. Much drier in tone than the Supra 400. Great solo!
Great description bro.
@@a4q540 Thanx man!
Damn he's good! Progressive rock had all the best drummers.
The most unique grip and style I've ever seen. And he plays beyond excellent.
Love Clive! Always felt like a jazzier John Bonham to me, both stylistically and in terms of showmanship.
almost looks like Bonzo too on first blush
You can hear the Ginger Baker influence. Bunker is far, far, better than Bohnam. And like Baker, he sounds like 2 or 3 good practiced players in unison, when he works up a full head of steam.
@@maximilliancunningham6091 I beg to differ my brother he was phenomenal but Bonham was still on a different level.
My thoughts exactly mate
Jazzy Bonham
Bonham, Baker and Michell all rolled into one with a reckless approach that is pure Bunker, always on the edge of calamity!
Love this man!
Great drummer , great band love his hat, these guys were having fun
I saw him live few years ago and his hands on drum are still unbilievable!
MAESTRO CLIVE BUNKER!!!!
AGUANTE JETHRO TULL SIEMPRE
Igual. Un artista extrordinario.
I really love Clive's total abandon his drum set ... this solo has always been one of my favorites.
Clive one the best and one of my favorites drummer of all time!!!❤️❤️❤️👍
Both Clive Bunker and Clive Thacker were brilliant drummers.
Clive is amazing! Nothing else can accurately describe this guy's tremendous drumming skills better.
Mountains scrambling down in harmony.
Clive is the best drummer
8:34 - Here is one of the rarest moments in Jethro Tull history ... Ian actually smiling and having fun. Love it.
Best drummer of JT and one of the world.
Easily the equal of any of the more well-known drummers from that era.
@@lediabolique5822 Indeed....
just watched this again after a long time, still mind blowing.
The best Belchior drum solo ever!!1
Love how he plays toms, like Ginger Baker.
When I saw Tull in 1969, this song was introduced as Clive doing his Ginger Baker impression. Tull opened for Jeff Beck (with Rod Stewart and Ron Wood)
@@eliotcollins2409 - the irony, this solo is better than anything baker ever recorded drumming wise .
@@Conda17 Absolutely. Baker was the best drummer in the world to Ginger Baker. To people who knew what they were listening to, he was ok.
Keith moon /Clive bunker and Carl Palmer 3 amazing drummers on the same stage at wight 70
Absolutely. It's too bad Moonie was more high than usual and his performance was pretty sloppy by his usual standards. He plays much better at the Tanglewood and Leeds shows from 1970.
Man,you Bill Brufford & Ian Paice Are the top of drummers,,,ever. If I am wrong, may God 4give me.
Clive Bunker is astounding
exactly almost 50 years ago and in this song you have the opportunity to listen to what I think was one of the best drums solos of all time, as well as Clive Bunker one of the best drummers ever. I wonder, if Clive knew, that at that moment he was writing a piece of battery history. Phenomenal (google translate I apologize if there are errors)
He is so good Bonham Admired Him Alot
are those like 20" hi hats? good lord tull literally had some of the finest rock drummers ever
They're 14". It could be the ride cymbal that's 20". As a former drummer I preferred that
Bunker and Barlow
Right after Zappa and King Crimson drummers
@@SKarthikeyan75 on par with Zappa Crimson? i'd put them below
@@TheNewGranada That's exactly what I said..
FENOMENALE!
Década de 70 .....Uma constelação de mestres na bateria .🥁🥁
I’ve always loved the drum work, but this high quality video helps make it even more accessible.
we must protect Clive Bunker at all cost!
What a fucking drummer Jehro Tulli is❤️
The demond of drums, Like Paice & Boham
Definitely agree with you on the best drummers with out a doubt
Flipante.
Clive, my fav JT drummer...the way he grab the left stick is insane; how he could control it with that power and speed...the transition from traditional to match grip era..
Perhaps the greatest drum solo I ever heard. Mesmerising solo.
Acoustically the perfect drum solo with a monster band. Beautiful.
I was not a fan of Tull at this point in time, but when "Benefit" came out and they did this concert, I was HOOKED.
Amazing Clive
See those drums in my profile pic…inspired by my drum hero Clive! He has a great single stroke roll!! Reminds me somewhat of Mitch Mitchell.
an absolute powerhouse
may seem a little corny to some people but drumhead pressing to achieve a distorted sound was really innovative especially at the time. Soloists in the subsequent decades did that with the addition of roto toms and electronics and Clive did that run with a really simple kit.
A 5" Keystone Acrolite...fantastic snare sound....
Adoro solo de bateria...dimais
excellent
The transition back into the song was so so sick!
10/10
Love ya Clive,
Thank you for sharing this indescribably delightful performance!!!!! I started tuning in to Tull around age 10. I just had to hear them once.
Ya Clive Rocks. 🥁😎☮️
Jethro Tull has yet to inducted into the Rock & Roll hall of fame.
Course not there to busy putting bands like green day in😢
Gran batterista
Great!!!! I love the sound and dynamics...
Solo de batería brutal
You can see Cozy Powell in the back watching Clive's solo. Awesome!
7:14... Headbutt cymbal.
How he gets such power while using the jazz style grip that he uses...AMAZING!!
Gran batteristi
Uau,,, que solo espetacular!
Clive per te una parola sola.... strepitoso!!!!!
Fantastic video ... such great quality ... and the band at one of its energetic and creative peaks. Thank you for posting Remy!
I would love an Anderson interview where he went thru the amazing gang of players he amassed over the years with his whit comments and ratings, rankings.
Semplicemente il migliore grazie Clive
Grew up listening to tull still growing! Love their 70s stuff the best, long hairs rule! Just wish I still had hair! Ha ha!
Love this Dharma For One and the Carnegie Hall from Living In The Past. Never liked the comparison or competition between Jethro Tull drummers, especially Clive and Barlow, they are both brilliant, but I always thought Clive Bunker had a warmer touch, a more human, whereas maybe Barriemore Barlow was more technical. I really loved the Jethro Tull of this era, so much energy and positivity.
Superb, He`s holding those sticks like a wizard holds a wand..BTW, he looks a bit like Geezer Butler, now that would be a rhythm section.
8:55 - When Clive gets up to take his bow at the end of the song, he looks so completely wiped out.
@7:14 good man clive, fucking brilliant
🥁
Clive Bunker es muy subestimado en la escena rock, pero esta interpretacion indica sus grandes cualidades en las baquetas buenisimo.
,🙏
Sounds like Ginger Baker sped up. Damn smooth and damn fast.
7:14 jajajajaja muy buena
✌️
Ian Anderson said HE was never on nuthn dunno about the rest of the band...
✌️💪👏✌️
a wizard
Clive is great Barrymore is great. conundrum is one of the great pieces with a great solo. wonder what Neil thought when he heard that.
Bunker is Moon/Baker/Bohnam combined. What more do you want in 1970 in a rock band? Barrymore was Neil Peart before he shed his Keith Moon influence. Technical drumming is like soulless guitar solos.
Compared to Bonham, Moon and Bunker...Baker was a "Toad".
Stalicone While I agree Baker was a ham fisted drummer who loved African drums too much, Bunker adopted a few things from him. What Bunker, and Moon have in common at the time is they used their entire drumkit to drive the band. It was a beat, not filling in between beats. It's funny that Bonham, and Moon were influenced by American jazz drummers, while Ginger was so into it's original African roots.
Antonio carlos Gomes Belchior, a brasillian musician who's looks like Clive Bunker!!! (Especially the mustache!) hahahaha
Straight out of Louie bellson . Great stuff
Dharma is comming..... eventually.....I.A.
Like Godot??
Nice one, Clive. Biscuit tins at the Ivory household and reahearsals in the garage at 2,Beacon Ave, must seem a long time ago, I suppose ?
in 7:42....1, 2,3,4 ....wooowww
