I’d like to think Robb would have been happy to see Jon take the throne, but disappointed he lost it to Dany. Robb was the better king, he had been poised to lead his entire life and understood what it meant. His leadership moment came at a bad time as he was angry over the death of his father. I think Jon and Robb would have been unstoppable together, Robb being a great king and Jon being in charge of the army.

"I can talk about that bastard as I please, you will not."

Another historic event which maybe didn't inspire the Red Wedding but certainly is a lot similar is the Stockholm Bloodbath of 1520. After the Danish king Christian II (in Sweden known as Christian the Tyrant) has successfully conquered all of Sweden including the Capitol of Stockholm (although it was not the *official* capitol but still the largest and most important city in the country) he invited all of the noblemen, bishops and lords to Stockholm being totally forgiven for fighting against the Danish king. Almost all of the noblemen came to this feast which lasted for three days, on the fourth night the city gates were sealed and the Danish soldiers arrested all of the Swedish lords and ladies, during the next few days at the square in todays Old Town a good one hundred people were executed for "heresy" but mainly treason.

2:18, pretty sure that's a portrait of James II of England, Ireland and in Scotland he was called Jame's VII, who lived in the 1600s 1440. The numbering for kings names James is different in England and Scotland because James VI of Scotland separately became king of England and Ireland, but for those was styled the first because England hasn't had a king called James yet.
Looking at English legends and myths, (I know that Robb is based on both the real Marquis of Montrose & young Edward IV), I sometimes wonder if his story parallels Robin Hood. It was GreatJon Umber that first got me thinking about this (wondering both at his name sounding like an invert of Little John & his son SmallJon Umber), but then I began to think about other aspects of Robin Hood's story - he ambushes and surprises his enemies, he fights against an unjust ruler (Prince/King John) and is literally bled to death by someone holding an old grudge against his family (in Robin's case, a nun from a family disinherited by his father [?]). Indeed, just because he was James II of England, does not make him James II of Scotland?!?!
@@danielde7542 James II of Scotland is not the same James II of England. James II of England is James VII of Scotland, as James VI of Scotland was the first Scottish King of England (James I). His true name was James I and VI of England and Scotland as was James II and VII of England and Scotland.
@@VeriganXO GODS so many James, but thanks for the info
I just finished reading Dance and man did Quentyn Martell remind me of Robb. Both awesome characters of course.
Quentyn seems more unsure of himself but I see some similarities there
@@manofhonor1685 I was talking about *spoilers* their tragic end. Both try to do what they think is right and fail.
In any other story they would be the triumphant heroes but Martin makes them tragic figures.
Toasty! 😭

Preston Jacobs theorized he is alive. His remaining companoins acted weird and all.
I love everything medieval 🤙🏾
Could you live without indoor plumbing? I went camping once. Don’t think I can do it again.
YOU NICK me too. I love history
You mean you love fantasy
HindsightPOV I always thought that if u didn’t know it it wouldn’t be so bad. Like since they didn’t know any better they thought they had it well. Imagine in 400 years from now what they will say “how did they live without *invention* in the year 2020???”
@@huntermaurice1562 Honestly idk how we can live without *invention* honestly.
My favorite character in the series. Was so sad to see him go so soon, wanted to see a lot more of him. :'(
Robb was one of the few i hated to see die… Robb, Danny, Ned, The Dorne dude Oberyn, n a few more deaths were truly devastating.. Robb’s being one of em.
Wow this video is 3 yrs old? And less than 10 comments? Edward IV was inspiration for Robb? 😮
If his mother didn't duck him over by releasing jaime then maybe Robb would have won
Catelyn hearing the 'The Rains of Castamere' is powerful... she knows what's coming but poor Robb doesn't have a clue!
I never get how hard I wanted to cry during the red wedding
As someone who was bored to death by the idea of midevial settings- especially with magic (I'm all about futuristic sci-fi)- ASoIAF really struck me because of how interwined it was with not just human history but humanity itself. I found this insight very fascinating because of it.
Robb was my favorite character in the whole show
When the red wedding happened in the books I was like oof
Smokin’ gun Studios that’s it?
Angad Singh oof
My god I can’t believe there are people who have never seen this show
George R.R. Martin is one of the best writers of all time. The way he take so many inspirations from history is just ugh 😩😩.
Ikr
He wrote one good book and completely lost the thread on his series.
@@alphanerd7221 All of the books are great
@@hunterhorsehelmsley7315 None of them are. The first one is really good. The second two are okay, and then the whole thing falls apart with occasional good chapters.
@@alphanerd7221 Nah
From someone who never read the books at this point, the red wedding was the most(and still is) shocking thing I have ever seen from any TV show or movie. I actually couldnt believe it, I didn't say a word for about a hour afterwards.
The only thing that pissed Roose Bolton off more than Robb ignoring him at every turn was Robb winning every time he did too.
I can’t stop watching his interviews, he has the most likable personality I’ve seem
Remember when game of thrones was good? Pepperidge farm remembers
Arch Enemy 🤣👍
Arch Enemy old meme but okay
@@nicholasloremann4741 *classic meme. Besides Robb stark died like 7 years ago
Arch Enemy I know, but the usage of pepperidge farm for this is rather strange when there are other memes to use for it.
@@nicholasloremann4741 😆 feel free to use one of said memes in your own comment
In the book , i love when Robb Stark tell his mother he want John to succeed him if he die on the battlefield
Robb is my favorite character, followed by Ned
Me too, Ned, Robb and for me the third place is Theon. He has by far one of the best Story arcs in my opinion
Me and my boyfriend are planning on, when we marry, to play The Rains of Castamere during the celebrations. Just for laughs tbh XD
My brother had this song play in his wedding, it’s so worth it I hope you get to play it in your wedding
you should have the band members pull out nerf crossbows and shoot everyone when they do this.
Robb Stark reminds me a lot of Carolus rex, a Swedish king who ascended to the throne at the age of 15, he fought against Russia and Prussia and beat them again and again, outnumbered most of the time, through stragetty, but eventually still lost the war and his life at the age of 36 despite winning most of the battles. Just like Robb they both came from nation up in the north.
George looks exactly like what an author should look like and I don’t know how to explain that
Robb was the only Stark I could stand, and when he died, I think a little of my faith in the show/books went with it lmaoo
Jon’s another one I like, but Sansa’s the absolute worst. Arya and Bran became awful, and Rickon was just a child.
@@mr.k418 show or books?
I just want to see how Rickon turns out in the book.
@@mr.k418 Sansa gets better for me in season 6 to then point where she’s pretty cool. I really enjoyed Arya’s character all through the show but I don’t think we got enough time with Bran to really like him much
I’d like to think Robb would have been happy to see Jon take the throne, but disappointed he lost it to Dany. Robb was the better king, he had been poised to lead his entire life and understood what it meant. His leadership moment came at a bad time as he was angry over the death of his father.
I think Jon and Robb would have been unstoppable together, Robb being a great king and Jon being in charge of the army.
When I was in the Army during the early 2010s we had a Campbell and a MacDonald posted to the same unit. After the very first roll call they were involved in a fight broke out between them. They beat each other bloody. After they sorted that out, they became the best of friends and would not tolerate anyone else insulting the other.
"I can talk about that bastard as I please, you will not."
this show was so good it's so sad what happened to it
The character I prefer in all this story. His team with the Blackfish made Westeros shake against all odds. If Theon didn't failed him, provoking the chain of events that made him fall for Jeyne Westerling, who knows what he would have made...
My favorite Character on the series.
I never get tired of hearing the king in the north gets me hype everytime
The inspiration for Robb Stark was the red shirts in Star Trek.
Red shirts means they have no name and no personalities. They're just extras. So, no.
Season 1-4 and arguably 5 and 6 were fantastic.
Yh I’d say 5 and 6 are still amazing
But 7 and 8 fuck me what a shambles
Grrm accent is the best.. I adore him when he speaks.. I already watched all his interviews😌💯
2:17 that's James II of England/ VII of Scotland.
James II of Scotland was different.
Well spotted
Favorite character🐺
I like how they include the scene where a random guy just brings out a tray of bread and salt, right at the doorstep.
Really good video & very informative.
However, when you refer to James II of Scotland you actually show a picture of James VII of Scotland, who also reigned as James II of England.
Man this show was so good for half a decade.
Rob stark was a Badass I wish he would have stayed around longer
Not sure how I feel about my country’s history being so bloody that it was the baseline for one of the most brutal shows of all time.
He’s my KING IN THE NORTH 🤴🏻🐺
The picture meant to show James II of Scotland actually shows James II of England (aka James VII of Scotland).
Lancaster is my home town to know that the war of the roses a story my grandparents tell all the time, and many other British events over decades inspired one if not the greatest book/TV series ever!!
Red wedding was the only time I put a book down out of grief
Another historic event which maybe didn't inspire the Red Wedding but certainly is a lot similar is the Stockholm Bloodbath of 1520. After the Danish king Christian II (in Sweden known as Christian the Tyrant) has successfully conquered all of Sweden including the Capitol of Stockholm (although it was not the *official* capitol but still the largest and most important city in the country) he invited all of the noblemen, bishops and lords to Stockholm being totally forgiven for fighting against the Danish king. Almost all of the noblemen came to this feast which lasted for three days, on the fourth night the city gates were sealed and the Danish soldiers arrested all of the Swedish lords and ladies, during the next few days at the square in todays Old Town a good one hundred people were executed for "heresy" but mainly treason.
im just amazed at what George sounds like, idk i just though it be deeper.
Robb was my hero best character in the show as well as stannis
If only Dave and Dan knew any history.
The black Douglas was one of Robert the Bruce’s most trusted friends on the battle field and even carried Roberts heart too many battles after his death in a metal box up until where he met his demise in Spain
Edward 4th is my favorite historical figure, loved Rob too
Robb is so gorgeous 🤩😍
A man in dark armor and a pale pink cloak spotted with blood stepped up to Robb. "Jaime Lannister sends his regards." He thrust his longsword through her son's heart, and twisted.
I descend from the MacDonald family that George brought up as the inspiration for the Red Wedding. Actually cool that he wrote about that. 3:00
Gods be good
SEVEN HELLS!
May the others take you!
"The king in the North" love to hear it
Is this from a documentary? I'd love to see the full thing 👌
Its funny when you think about it, Tywin didnt even need to do anything. Robb destroyed himself
3:50 in the book this scene takes place on top of The Wall. Why the hell didn't they keep that in the TV series?
01:56 that reminds me to a saying native of my homecountry:
"the reality is far worse than fiction"
"The Campbells came to Glencoe, which was a McDonald town..."
Campbells: This is a soup town now, Burger Boys!
Does this seem like a plausible theory to anybody?
The red wedding sounds a lot like the blood bath of Stockholm
