Pes 2017 and 2018 were imo the best pes games of the last console generation
I've retrofit 2018 with 36 club teams (no duplicates) 90s 00s players for a classic UCL. 2017 is for master league. The 2 best PES games made
PES 2017 and PES 2018 were very different. PES 2017 feels like the remake of PES 2013 which is fun for those who loves speed, while 2018 is the beginning of realistic pace
2017 and 2018 (my favourite) were great . I think 2020/2021 was not as fun but more realistic as those games were so fast. It's all ruined now which is so sad 😓
PES 2018 is the one I played the most. 2017/18 was the worst time of my life, so I owe a lot to it.
Defensive AI much better and doesn't read every skill move, making gameplay much more fun. The biggest flaw of this game was probably the OP ball over the top. I mean even in this video the AI use it about 7 times to get through.
I mean if it keeps working why stop? I've had a few Europa League games(playing as Sparta Rotterdam) where the AI stopped using the ball over the top because my team kept stealing it using Gegenpress.
What are the chances I literally downloaded this over the weekend, what a game. Fun, fluid, responsive and addictive.

PES 2008 is still my all time favorite. I played so much cups against every single team. But PES 5 is very close! My very first PES and a great memory because I bought it on a school outing in London and got the chance to see the glorious Highbury live. Never use the word "Chelsea" in Arsenal xD we discussed the transfer of Ballack to Chelsea....that was fun :D

Pes 18 and 16 were my favourites of the fox era ...
Alone hearing a song from the amazing Pes 18 soundtrack brings back so many good memories like setting up your formation on master league while chilling to "something just like this"
The Pes 18 layout was also the first and only time I thought that the blue and green scoreboard (similar to the premier league) looked modern and not outdated
I remember spending hours just editing the tiniest things in edit mode and i even created my local village team in the game since i played it so much
Alone seing that 1 minute Barca v Psg trailer in 2017 got me so damn hyped for the game and tbh I think except for the daytime lighting in Pes 2019 everything was downgraded in the following games ESPECIALLY THE REFEREES that just became soft and consider two players touching as fouls nowadays

Pes 18 is by far the best footy game I've ever played , so responsive , and suits me perfectly as a fully manual player. Why do the pes community complain that it feels arcady yet there using pass supports? It makes zero sense. I always felt fully in control of pes 18 , I was in div 1 using a standard team with fully manual controls, pes 19/20/21 are so slow and unresponsive it just makes it impossible for manual players to compete. Pes community, it's impossible to have a football sim when you use pass and shoot support

Agreed in all terms. Very smooth handling and controls, an absolute joy to play in the field. Despite having some actions that seem script, like the AI turning the ball to launch a lofted through pass most of the time and the shooting even from weird angles, the tactical response is the best, the tactics applied did catch and you have a mind game to block the AI in the match. The Advanced Strategies option menu in the PES 2020 is superior, but this is the only one feature where there is a need of adding. Really, along with PES 2019, these two are my favourite editions and I would be glad to have one of them in my PC, if I had the time from my work to play with it. Have a nice time.
This was my favorite pes, it was fluid
What i like from this game is R2 button is great to control dribble and make it fast to turn direction
And also can played on ps3 and ps4
The pes series(if u are following the series back from ISS etc and be a faithful pes player from start) was done when its moved to the fox engine and the barca partnership.The last pes true gem was PES 2013.
I found 17/18 to be onto something. They were moving away from the arcade type feel of 2016 and did a great job doing that.
Pes 6 my best game and pes3 on ps2 :) never forget the good old days :)
This game saw a massive rise in size of the game in pc & in lighting too. Love it. Too bad never had a great pc to enjoy the game at 60fps . Need to wait for a new laptop.
I agree, I still have it installed and it did feel arcadey a bit, but if you tweaked the gameplan of all teams (which I did lol) it feels even better, highly recommended!
This myth that it has to be a simulation is BS. This is arcade and fun and way better than the most realistic footy games ever (2021)
can you please please make a RE-REVIEW of PES 2017
This was the last PES that I played before playing PES 2021, and it is true that I liked it a lot, but when I played PES 2021 I noticed a lot of difference in gameplay in PES 2018, for example in professional difficulty
The first times of the game always ended in 5 shots on goal for the computer and for me too, they reached the goal, they attacked me instead in PES 21 the same thing does not happen just 2 shots from the computer, So it stresses me out that in professional I can't even attack because the computer is in God mode, but they don't attack me either, there are no arrivals on goal, I'm not used to playing in maximum dificultad There will not be a gameplay that has the rhythm and similarity to that of PES 2018 that the com in medium difficulty is also competitive?
To this day I play PES 2019 around 80 percent of the time and then also some PES 2018 like 20 percent of the time. I love both. To me, in my subjective opinion while there are some cool improved aspects to PES 2020/21 (almost one same game really) I just think the cons outweigh the pros, actually. There are to me, personally, more steps back than forward. More downgrades than upgrades, in how I like to play the game. Things like knocking the ball on for a perfect pass or shot, dribbling, flicks and fun things like that are much more fun in PES 2018 and 2019 for example. And the cloth physics and kits look better in PES 2019. And the player models in PES 2018 have a nicer more real looking general body shape and proportions, I think. And I dig the full license in PES 2018 for example, even though I know PC mods can take care of a lot of that stuff, I do play on PC with mods btw but still. Just some thoughts. Cool to see you address this game again!
My favourite PES game after PES 6. Intuitive, smooth, responsive. I downloaded it about a month or two ago and have been playing since. After installing the 2021 patch, I've been having a blast! But I still play 2021 cos of the mods

both are master pieces, PES 6 and PES 2018 are the only games where I had a career mode that went past 2040
this game was great but i prefer pes 2020 just slightly, but maybe thats just me, pes was an upward trajectory from pes 16 but no one knows what will happen now

PES 2018 and PES 2019 much much responsive than PES 2020-2021, thats what I liked that two games. PES 2018-2019 Responsiveness + PES 2021 gameplay that should've been a very good game for all of us.
PES 2013 as it was the last one before the switch to the Fox engine.

I like this review. It's close to me to love previous football games. As for me I still play FIFA 16 Career Mode and I completely happy with it. Because actual games aren't equal to better ones. Maybe I should try PES 2018.

Pes 2019 was my first Pes game and I loved it and I didn't like any other Pes game after that
Been playing football games since 96 and ive played a few classics along the way :) the current gen best are without a doubt for gameplay are fifa 15 pes 16-18 but from 16-18 pes slightly become abit more realistic on the pitch were the series reached its peak with pes 18 in my opinion" the nearest to the beautiful game on the pitch so far on console a pure simulation of football am still playing it now and in my opinion the realism on the pitch has never been beaten since its release and ive played every fifa and pes to death so I would consider myself a good judge to that :) pes 19 was good but they tryed and couldn't match the genius of 18' 19 may have slightly better lighting but graphics were near enough the same 'put the pace and the tempo and AI of 18 hasnt yet been surpassed as yet so roll on the next gen and see what the fifa and pes juggernauts have in store for us ! But for now the gold medal goes to pes 18 silver pes 17 and bronze is between fifa 15 and pes 16 :)

It certainly is but PES 2019 gameplay rivals this wise it is just as good or arguably better in regards to on pitch despite missing the UEFA club competition licenses.
2017 and 2018 are definitely the best all round games of the modern series. The main differences for mine being in 2017 the ball felt heavier to touch where as in 2018 the ball felt “in possession” like basketball or rugby, personally prefer the 2017 style myself.
Been back to playing a 2017 master league recently, very refreshing after the garbage that has been 2019-2022.
2018 was my favourite game of the fox era, if it had the additional leagues from 2019 and if the stadium mods were to the same level as 2017 or 2020/21 I'd still be playing it now but playing ML with the old limited league selection feels shit now
Exactly this. The many additional leagues and the plethora of mods for later games are the only reason I even consider playing any other PES than 2018

2:46 But at least it looks like pretty dark green grass and "clean" as opposed to the unmodded pes 19, 20 and 21 turfs where the grass actually looks a little yellow'ish and often with some ugly patches scattered around the field.

As a manual player the only issue of this Pes 18 was the header .. so very hard

It's fun because it has less animations make them easy to control, same with pes 2013, pes6..
Good game and all but wake me up when they fix that switching issue on 0:18 😢. One of the reasons I gave up on PES and soccer games in general.
Pogba was the most reasonable player to get that ball but switching made you lose possession and almost cost you a goal.
That was my fault... I switched player manually...cuz I was expecting it NOT to switch as I'm used to 2021 not responding that fast.

the daytime lighting here in stadiums like San Siro was a visual pinnacle for the series
also player models and kit fits were more streamlined and less awkward looking than they are in PES2021
Been telling people this for years. This game isn't without its own minor drawbacks but man, the responsiveness just puts PES 2018 over any of its successors in terms of pure fun gameplay. I still circle back to 2018 every time I play any of the newer ones for some period of time.
If only this one had the modabilty on later games....
Apart from the pitch, which looks horrible, it still looks good enough even today, imho. But might still be a mod around, which replaces the pitch with that of PES2019. This helps a lot.

I play on superstar. It is the most frustrating thing ever. I was Chelsea vs OL. I was up 1-0 with like 5 minutes left and the AI scored 3 goals in 2 minutes. Every loose ball went to the CPU
if you didnt already know you must put the team condition on both teams to max (only if you want to. I have a tutorial vid in german but will upload a tutorial vid in english in the next couple days

I got to disagree with you on this one. PES 2018, from what I remember, was the most infuriating game at times when I played ML. There were times where I felt my players weren't reacting quick enough, and whenever there was a weird deflection in the box, all my players wouldn't lock on the ball and the AI would tap it in. I don't remember much now, but I definitely recorded moments where I felt I had no control over the game. But, I know that the gameplay on exhibition definitely had fewer of those frustrating moments.
I don't know, I've only been playing FIFA 17 for the last 5 years and PES 2018 was the only PES I've ever bought. I'm booting up the game again on exhibition just to see how it's like.

Looking at a lot of the comments, it appears I'm in a minority, which I found surprising as I assumed most hated it because it was so bad.
18 was the Pro Evo that put me off ML forever. I've never really bothered with it since. The most I've managed since 19 was about 4 league games before I got frustrated/bored/lost interest lol

This year is the start where we lost the player id
Visually looking a bit dated now, but gameplay wise, still by far the best PES they've done in recent times in terms of raw fun. That's not to say it isn't without its typical Konami oddities and flaws, but overall, this is the most responsive and free flowing of the PES experiences where it doesn't feel like you're constantly on a rail playing against the algo rather than the players on the pitch.
My only criticism of the game is that it was way too easy to destroy the CPU and end up with cricket scores. So it's really the antithesis of the recent two games which attempted to balance the problem, but went too far in the other direction in my opinion.
Overall, Pro Evolution Soccer 4 remains my all time favourite. It just captured the aftermath of the 2002 Wold Cup era and Arsenal beginning to pick up serious steam in the Premier League.
On Legend, I remember I was one of the first few to beat it by a decent scoreline. I avoided if for a while with other content creators struggling. Legend became harder though as they released patches.

I think pes 2016 without all the patches was great to pes 17 aswell but can't remebr which patch it was good at.that the issue with these games they mess with the code so much that it messes everything

I played pes 18
on a laptop for a while, with newest season patch. last week i tried to download pes19 and got deleted after 2 days. In addition to upgrading graphics, the gameplay has a step backwards, the player's AI is terrible. In pes18 on Super star difficulty, it is quite difficult to win the machine, and pes19 does not take effort.
Yeah still a great game also pes 19 still play at times amazing graphics 👍

and adjusting your player for the best possible finish takes some time to get used to, but is really worth it in the end

It has been equally bad since like 10 years now . Look at 0:18 the shit made Pogba slow down and lose possession. It is the reason stopped playing entirely

I never played football games in my Ps4 until I bought fifa 20 and I kinda regret it. I have my old xbox 360 and have Pes 2013 and it was my favourite football game but between 2016-2020 I lost my interest in the sport. When I wanted to buy a new football game I wanted to have Ucl experience but unfortunately new Pes games don’t have it so I bought Fifa because the roster was new and I’d have newer graphics but the Ucl experience is nowhere near a 10 years old game. It is absolutely terrible. I wished I made the daring decision and bought Pes 2018 I’d have more fun.

I disagree.
While PES 18 had good gameplay, regarding the CPU AI, that is the game when it all started to go bad.
The constant laser like long balls that the CPU plays in 2018 is terrible, they just sweep it perfectly into attackers path every time while the defenders are constantly caught out by a run from deep. Every team plays the same way.
Compare that to the PES 2017, when every team had a TEAM ID and a unique style.
Try PES 2017, play a season and observe the AI.
- Some teams allow you to keep the ball and hit you on the counter
- Some teams sit back and defend deep
- Some teams play possession slower game
- Some teams press you like crazy
- Some teams always play a high line.
During the late stages of a game, if the AI is losing, a defensive team starts getting aggressive and starts pressing
Every game is a tactical battle. So you see, how varied the experience is!
Each team in PES 2017 had an identity. Which resulted in some of most memorable PES games ever!
Sadly they just got rid of all of this in 2018, where every team plays the same. 2019, 2020, 21 continued the same.
And with eFootball, the focus is on online, so they wont be bothered to focus on CPU AI.
Konami were on verge of greatness, but the MyClub mode destroyed the series.

Pes 17,18 and 21 are the best. In Ghana,PES 18 is played most because it's smooth. They only play FIFA on ps4 @ the game centers

I played PES2018 Champions League mode today since I missed the opening scene and theme song. Other than that, PES 2021 is much better.
