SUPER movie! Amazing twists and turns of the plot , nail biting suspense , and of course vintage Dehanney to top it all !He was in his element ,and overall the rest of the cast was amazing too. Was so sad when it ended ! 👏👏👏
I always read the reviews on a movie before I watch it, and usually it's just "oh I like this actor or that actress' and nothing about the movie. I had to read a lot before I caught the comment "a movie off a Steve Martini book". That was enough for me. He is a spectacular writer and one of my favorites. His main book character is Paul Madriani [Brian Dennehy]. His books and this movie are brilliant and always full of twists and turns. BD is wonderful as Madriani, and the rest of the cast is perfect. It is well worth a watch just for the very complicated ending, especially if you like a good legal thriller.

I made it! I watched the full three hours without falling asleep. Watching good old Dennehy wobbling around trying to avoid being shot or molested was great fun. The plot of this movie was exactly as I expected it to be after watching for 15 minutes.
No fair, Martini tricked me, never guessed. Denney was a great actor. Nice back up with Richardson and Smart. The ladies took us a long way from Tool Time and Designing Women, great jobs. Thanks so much! Much love from California.

I love a movie I can't figure out. I didn't see it coming. I usually have it figured out by halfway through, or often by Quarter ways through. This had a Shawshank style ending. Maybe not as good, but good. The Devil's Advocate has a great Shawshank ending. I love anything Brian Dennehy is in, and this didn't disappoint.
I live in a community where having a dozen kids is hardly unusual, and loving all of them dearly is the norm. The custody fights can be just as brutal.
They keep mentioning 'taking a child away from his mother'. From what I can see of this "child", a strapping teenager, who would certainly not go timidly to his fathers house and stay there against his will and anyone who tried to make him do that would have a very tough time indeed !
How old is this “child” that they are fighting over for custody? Looks to be over 18 but say he’s supposed to be 16-17…chances of a custody battle over a kid that age wouldn’t even take place…at that age he would be legally entitled to choose which parent he wants to live with, irl….
Yeah, I didn't get that either. He was 17 and was going to college in a year. That was an iffy plot hole, but if they made him 13 or younger, well, then the plot wouldn't work for obvious reasons.
Not necessarily. If the child says they want to live w one parent, the other parent can still fight it. Depends on if the courts agree or not though. Addiction or abuse allegations, problems at school or if one household is deemed unsafe, the courts would be able to trump the child’s wishes.
This movie is stupid fight in custody over a grown boy. That’s ridiculous. A child can decide who they wanna live with at the age of 12 or 13 and he’s well over that looks more like at least 18 years old.
Well that's what Id heard but I know children who are still having to go back and forth with the dad,who is not good being around, and they're over that age!! They tell the mother it's civil matter, take him to court!! Even when he was holding the child past visitation time, police said they couldn't do anything, take him to court!!
Brian Dennehy is terrific in this story as he tries to solve the mystery of who killed Melanie. There's lots of clues to sort through. Will we ever know who did it? Enjoy the movie.

I felt bad for Marcy dying but was glad to see her boss get blown to smithereens! She was a total bitch!
Artistic license, I guess. A young man, Danny's age, would have some say about which parent he wanted to live with. And especially since his father showed little interest as he was growing up. Also , this movie has more plot twists than a switchback mountain road. Lol
One plot twist in court and another after the trial - very clever and very well played by Mr Dennehy and the cast. The clue that never came under question was the rug washed in bleach, but it would be a spoiler to explain how and why it mattered.

Heartbreaking the chaos surrounding those who commit adultery and desert their former spouse in favour of seductive younger gold diggers.
It's heartbreaking when a man feels the need to escape his wife, but then she uses her own children as pawns in a game. It goes both ways.
