  • Before telling DVLA that you have brought a vehicle into the UK you need to show it meets environmental and safety regulations or has an exemption. You usually also need to pay VAT to HMRC.
Once you have done this, you’ll need to register your vehicle with DVLA.
To do this you will need to fill in all the forms in our ‘Import pack’ and include some of your documentation:
    • vehicle registration certificate
    • NOVA confirmation (if applicable)
    • approval certificate / MOT certificate (if applicable)
    • cheque or postal order for £55 for first registration fee and the correct vehicle tax rate
You will also need to provide evidence of your identity and address.
To confirm your name, you’ll need to provide one original ID document:
    • current DVLA driving licence
    • UK or EU passport
    • birth certificate
    • marriage certificate
    • decree nisi or decree absolute
To confirm your address, you’ll need to provide one original document:
    • utility bill issued in the last 3 months
    • council tax bill for the current year
    • bank statement issued in the last 3 months
    • medical card
Remember - Your vehicle may need to be inspected before it can be registered!
We will then process your application and if approved, we’ll:
    • Give your vehicle a new UK registration number
    • Send you a vehicle registration certificate

I know a UK resident who's been driving a French registered RH drive car in the UK for around 5 years, but nobody seems to be interested. Maybe we should all just stick foreign plates on our cars???

Catch 22. Before you can Register an imported 'bike, you need to Insure it.
She didn't mention that. Many UK Insurers will not insure the bike until it is Registered.
    Catch 22.

You can get a temporary insurance policy on the chassis/frame number, but you must give the insurance company the new registration number (normally within 30 days) comparison sites dont work, you will need to phone or use an insurance broker

A minute long video but months long process lol. Bought a dream machine. Australian import Audi a4 Quattro Sline. Came cheap (basically brand new) 17k miles, but the catch / headache is came without CoC .. uneducated I assumed would be simple enough but it is a headache guys. Once had statements from Audi, Nova, emissions check, adr rules etc sent off documents and covid 19 came knocking lol so yes, now I just sit and wait till this shit blows over to meet the next hurdle. Once IVA has passed will there be more problems? Don't know but I can only advise is that persistence pays off. If you find your dream machine don't expect plain sailing. Either way, anyone done similar successfully? Any easier routes? :)

@@nickshabir4785 I'll just advise you now after checking what I had written that you commented on. I'm passed all approvals etc, I'm awaiting registration. Got rejected a few weeks ago had to send further documents. So now at hopefully final wait for my magic letters and numbers for the plates. Chat in a bit :)

@@nickshabir4785 yo, when you say Nova shows no vat do you mean you've already dealt with it ? If not already you need to communicate with hmrc ...are you UK? Contact your equivalent. If nova not 100% you can end up with a nasty fine ... 14 days from import is normally the notification period.
But the main thing is, I had to do something called an IVA ...an approval test because the car is 2013 and I had no CoC ...so if your car is left hand drive or 10+ years old it's a lot less hassle. It depends on what documents you have depends on your next move. What have you got?
To register you need CoC, nova, export documentation, proof of addresses, purchase etc ...you need to prove the age of the vehicle. In my case I had no export documentation so I got Audi to print me out car stats / first registration. This wasn't an email they sent and I printed, no, that's why I got rejected. So the manufacturer needs to print the stats on official paper etc. Then they will accept it. So where do you stand now? What do you have and what's your location? UK? Oh, also insurance over vin if required for you, mine is with admiral ..this is important too.
