Been following your channel since Covid days. Really love your video. Easy to understand and very practical. Just got myself a 3sixty foldie from 7.7 sale and following your video to see what I can upgrade. :)
Thank you Frank! Tires will be the best upgrade for your case. Changing to hollowtech crankset is recommended as well if you want to shave off some weight. Do stay tune for our tier 3 upgrade :)
@@WiserBiker That is exactly what I did! :) Was inspired by your Tier 2 video and limited myself to $250. Got myself a 53T Chainring, crankset, rear shock absorber, carbon seat post, chain, ceramic bottom bracket and tires for $256 including shipping. :D Looking forward for Tier 3. I was think of carbon wheelset but thinking if it's worth it for foldie since the difference is not that great (price point) in terms of performance when compared to a road bike or normal bicycle.
That's great that You say about reducing weight and then You show one by one how much weight we gain on each component. well done. Just wondering - the original seat stem was steel, or alu? there's a huge weight difference in lite pro and the original one (2x)
Nice video! I'm curious, is the Shimano MT200 suitable for a foldable bike? I'm concerned that since my bike always folds at home, could this potentially cause the hose to leak?
One upgrade I'd definitely add onto this budget would be Grips. I find the stock ones here to be quite loose, so the palm rest part keeps facing downwards. Then optional one would be carrier block for more bling or front bag option
I use this bike everyday.. to work and occasional ride and it is very reliable. But one thing, the frame hinge lock, it bent outward.. been looking for replacement but only the dahon's.. can i use the dahon's hinge lock or is there any for zelo at all.. thank you sir. By the way, your video part 1 of this, got me to set up my bike.. wife angry.. me happy..😄 more power brother..!
Thanks for the great weight savings comparison. Is it possible to change the fork which is steel & I guess among the heaviest part to an alloy or carbon fork to reduce the weight further?
Nice video on the much awaited tier 2 upgrade! Thanks. In your opinion, based on ride performance post this upgrade2, which 650-750 SGD foldie does this compare to?
Thank you! We have yet to bring this foldie for a ride. We would say the performance is very comparable with foldable bikes that is priced $650-$750 in the market but definitely with our upgrade, it is a more complete bike in the sense that you will a slight edge in terms of better quality components overall
Hi Joseph, we have not changed the wheelset, it is still the stock wheelset, we found a 10speed freewheel that fits the wheelset in order to make the 10s groupset work. cheers!
50-52T will be ideal for most people. Trying to do sustain effort using 52T front 11T rear combination is not easy. So if you can, then you can upgrade to a bigger chainring :)
Love your videos! Just Bought the Polygon Strattos S8 because of your review! Do you do upgrades for a 3sixty foldies at your shop? As well as overhaul, replace rusty parts and cleaning/maintenance services?
Hi Jeffrey, glad you like our videos. yes we can help with servicing and upgrade of your 3sixty, you may DM us through our facebook page, facebook.com/wiserbiker cheers!
Hi there! I can think of a few reasons why your chain drops easily after replacing with these parts. 1. if your chain ring has narrow-wide teeth like ours, you might have mismatched the narrow teeth with the wide gap on the chain. 2. the chain crosses too much, especially when you shift to lower gear (ie the bigger cogs). The litepro crankset allows you to install 2 chain rings, ie max 2 speed. But since we are only using 1 chain ring, you can either install the chain ring on the other position or the inner position. try changing to the inner chain ring position to minimise the cross chain angle. alternatively you may install a chain guard near the crankset to prevent the chain from dropping. 3. your chain may be too long or too short, in this case you need to size your chain, remove some links or add in more links to get the right sizing. rule of thumb, the pulley wheels on your rear derailleur should not touch the cassette cogs when at the heaviest gear and the pulley wheel arm should be pointing at around 4o'clock direction when at the lightest gear. 4. on some rare occasions, some chain links could be twisted (from wear and tear or any other incidents that you could have overlooked). you may slowly run the chain and look from directly above, pay close attention to the point at which the chain derails. if it always happen at a specific point, you might just find the culprit there. That's about all I can think of on hand, if all the above doesn't help, you may want to bring the bike to a local bike shop and let the mechanic have a look. hope this is helpful. Peace!
Nice upgrades! I also spent about $200+ on my upgrades recently on the Seatpost, Handlebar, Saddle, grips, Tires and Oval chainring. My bike already came with hydraulic brake and hollowtech crankset. Btw, how long can hydraulic brake last before we need to change the oil?
Nice! Tires easily the best upgrade you can do to your bike! What bike are you riding? Ideally you want to rebleed your hydraulic brake 1-2 times a year depending how much you ride.
Hi Wiser Biker, thanks for the vid. Is your seatpost 31.8? How about the stock seatpost shim? Is it compatible to your seatpost? Make more informative video.. Greetings from Philippines.. Mabuhay!
Thanks for this long-awaited video! 😁I will definitely look into some of your recommended components! With $250, I'm wondering why you didn't go with the Litepro Aero S42 wheelset? (Very impressed with your previous vid on this.) IMO, that saves weight and more importantly reduce friction on the wheel hub. As for the noise, I'm thinking a bit more grease on the inner hub should reduce the ratchet noise. For brakes, I think the Zelo's are fine. I'm 78kg and managed to avoid an accident when I e-braked in less than 1m on a sandy PCN road from maybe 10km/h. I'm on Schwalbe Marathon Greenguard 1.5x20 tyres. Are there cheap and good foldable pedals you can recommend? Thanks in Advance bro!
Nah in fact thank you for watching our videos! Litepro wheelset is definitely good for its value but we have other things in mind :) Brakes are fine but the braking performance for changing to hydraulic brakes is very noticeable. We will be doing some braking test between mechanical and hydraulic brakes so you can decide for yourself 😁 We saw some quick release pedals from promend not sure about the feasibility since we did not try them. Problem that we faced with foldable pedals is it flex quite a lot when you are pedaling hard.
@@WiserBiker Yes, you did mention your goal for this video is weight savings. Will look forward to your brakes review. Noted your feedback for foldable pedal. We're casual cyclists and are just trying to maximise the enjoyment on our foldies. Think we'll upgrade to your recommended 10-speed system and smoothness of Aero S42. What are your thoughts on suspension seatpost? Edit: Just checked out the Shimano MT200 reviews online and it seems to be a good upgrade allowing full brake actuation with 1 finger and a real-world reduction in braking distance. Looking forward to your review after this upgrade. :)
@@WiserBiker I spoke with bike shop uncle and he also say foldable pedal can never be durable and withstand full body weight on it. He also recommended quick release pedal which is not too expensive. He also say the Aero wheelset can only use cassette while Zelo is using freewheel so that adds costs. Now I see why you didn't go wheelset for this Tier-2 upgrade. Lastly I saw suspension seatpost which helps smooth out bumps but the stiff ones all cost >$300+.
@@erictayet Yup! Its all about upping the quality of life of your ride! Tier 3 upgrade is on wheels, so you may wanna hold your horse (though we cant tell you exactly when we will air the content. probably aug) Personally we don't think there is a need for suspension seatpost unless you going for tons of off road. A good saddle with cycling bibs will do the job. I don't think roads, pavement or PCN in particular are that bumpy. That is correct on the wheels upgrade as they cost a lot more than you think when you factor in everything but it will be one of the best upgrade you can do for your bike!
@@WiserBiker I pulled the trigger on the Aero S42 wheelset and a 10-speed Shimano Deore gearset w 11-34T to pair with the Litepro 56T crankset. Also upgraded to Litepro A68 carbon seatpost and Litepro Ghost Alu straight handlebar. To reduce the noise of the Aero S42, I put extra grease in the hub & springs. Really love the smoothness of the new drive-train, hill climb is much easier and top-speed also a bit higher. The carbon seatpost helped with ride comfort. But the stiffer and lighter Alu handlebar is too stiff and I started getting hand sore, even with padded gloves. Thinking of changing to carbon handlebar and dropping my front tire pressure to 50PSI from 60PSI.
@@fender1000100 The main upgrades for a folding bike are lightweight and portability, not aero. Aerodynamics upgrades are pretty useless on a folding bike: average riding speed is just too slow to get significant benefits from aero and the upright riding position is where most of the drag will come from anyway. A 29er XC MTB would ride faster on a road than a folding bike equipped with 20 inch "aero" wheels.
