Nice build Gav, i did the same with the shims, way quicker to find them 👍 i went 500 front 400 rear and it felt good. So your on the ball with your oil choice 😎
I've seen a couple of build videos, including this one, and they all say the same thing about the parts trees and manual, it really lets down an otherwise good kit. I'm interested in this one though, seeing as the Genova is harder to get hold of, and for a mid-range 2wd buggy there isn't really a huge choice. Can't wait to see the finished bodyshell, and to see the buggy running!!
Great review Gavin. Glad I watched this before I got started. Decided to hold off for a little while and enjoy a legendary build instead. Thanks for giving us all the heads up pal 👍🏻🙌🏻
It's a good bit of kit, just received mine last night and started the build promptly. Lack of shock oil is not a big deal because I got gobs of it from previous kits. However only supplying grease and no other liquids kinda sucks. I replaced the metal flanged bushings with metal flanged bearings. Lack of part numbers on the trees is a bit faux pas.
Still have the mark on my thumb from that servo saver!!😂😂 Glad i did this one first as even though it has its issues. I have the Turbo Scorpion and sooooooooo can't wait for that one. I look forward to what you do with the body too... 👍👍
Hi Gavin, on 3.37 minute video about steering linkage UM578, maybe we can use M3x6mm button head screw to secure this linkage onto steering servo saver
Nice one Gavin! At 4.39 in the video you show how the steering knuckles should be according to the manual and how you did them th eother way around 🙂 It doesn't seem to cause any problems so no need to redo them and get the left on the right and vice versa.
yes a nice build- i bought by accident a rb5sp last winter, used one with quite a few spares from someone who switched to AE. Last week i got my DM, wondering what is changed to the older SP - besides the materials used and the shocks/ diff / bearing, almost nothing... So i think i am running the SP with the body of the DM which is the nicer one i.m.o. , but the build of the new DM will be done at one time. See how it drives compared to the SP then.
That top shaft in the gearbox has a bushing you moved to the upgraded shaft. Apologizes if this has been brought up thousands of times already. But I think I would have sized that bushing up with a sealed bearing. Kyosho in the past was really good about standardizing on as few bearing sizes as possible.
Yep the upgrade shaft has the same bushing in the packet. You have to remove it and then fit the motor mount. After it’s all screwed down, you slide the brass bushing back on.
Had mine now for a couple of weeks in the USA. Been waiting for another english speaking build on this model to see if anything was done differently. Same thing though...manual is rather poor. Also, Kyosho made like 5 different versions of the RB5. Was trying to figure out which this was based on or if a mix of a few different ones. It somewhat matters in terms of RB5 upgrades.
Nice one Gavin, what diff oil did you use, I don’t want to use the grease they supplied and I was going 450 in the fronts and 400 in the rear on the shocks, I’m just trying to get a few more upgrades 👍🏻
Hi Gav. Did you fit a standard size servo? Or what did you fit? It looks a bit tight for space, but the manual doesn't explicitly ask for a low profile servo. Thanks!
Seems unusual for Kyosho to have a manual that's a bit naff. A bit if advice that is nearly two decades out of date, make sure you have proper hex drivers when building one of these. I once disassembled and reassembled my RB5 using only allen keys. It suuuuucked, especially with the fibre reinforced plastics. Good vid btw.
Yep, everyone has picked up the old RB stock. I’m not sure if we will see some upgrades from Kyosho for the Dirt Master but it would be silly of them not to.
A little but nothing I don’t see on loads of buggies out the box. You could spend some time getting these perfect easy enough if you are taking it racing and need it bang on from the start. A hour of driving and these will bed in themselves if it’s not.
Didn't quite understand the bearing situation. Are you saying that you are paying for a kit you cannot fully assemble as you need to buy separatley bearings for the drive line ? That sounds absurd.
Unfortunately I only have enough Patreons to help 1/3rd of the monthly running costs so the adverts have to help keep the lights on. I’m funding as much as I can out of my own pocket but it’s almost all gone.

Very nice Video! Greetings from Germany 👍✌️

Thanks for this build , been looking for this info. Big Fan.

I’ll take a look and check 👍🏻
i'm holding out for Turbo Ultima - running out of space . Thanks for the content
will it be re released? i want one (at least) 😊👍👍
Another year would be my guess
Another great build! 👍
Great build tutorial Gav. Love seeing the RB5 carb parts being thrown at it. Also glad to hear you aren't going box art for the shell.
Having a few issues with the body painting but I hope to save it today lol. Things don’t always go to plan lol

Thanks
8:05 😄(what a let-down from Kyosho)
Nice one Gavin, what diff oil did you use, I don’t want to use the grease they supplied and I was going 450 in the fronts and 400 in the rear on the shocks, I’m just trying to get a few more upgrades 👍🏻
It was some diff oil I had in the kit bag.
Do you need a low profile servo only? Thanks for the great videos! Bill
Yes a low profile servo is needed
Hi anybody here recommend a good body painter for a Tamiya, just wondered who was used for some of the builds thanks
Hi Gav. Did you fit a standard size servo? Or what did you fit? It looks a bit tight for space, but the manual doesn't explicitly ask for a low profile servo. Thanks!
You can fit a full servo but it’s snug or a half height
I used a Savöx low profile servo for better clearence on my DirtMaster 👍
@@Blastfromthepastrc1346this is the route I went, in the end.
What? Getting like Tamiya, perhaps worse even! No shock oil and only half a set of bearings…….tiny bit of grease too! Come on Kyosho!!!!

Yep that’s good advice. I wouldn’t want to build one of these with just Allen keys.
The carbon parts are becoming hard to find. Thoughts?
Yep, everyone has picked up the old RB stock. I’m not sure if we will see some upgrades from Kyosho for the Dirt Master but it would be silly of them not to.
@@RCKickschannel I agree, the older parts are getting hard to get. I bet Kyosho does release upgrades. It would be a good business decision. Thoughts?
The steering rack and front swing arms don't look like they swing very freely.

Didn't quite understand the bearing situation. Are you saying that you are paying for a kit you cannot fully assemble as you need to buy separatley bearings for the drive line ? That sounds absurd.
No you get all the bearings required for the drive line, you don’t get bearings for the steering, you only get bushings in the kit.
Is it just the 2 bearings you need to buy? I've not opened my kit yet. But I would order them before I do.
@Keith Boyd the steering needs 4 5x8x2.5 bearings. I went ahead and got flanged bearings to replace the flanged bushings.
@@jefftroxell4923 cheers. Is it only the 4 steering bearings that need replaced? Is everything else metal already?
Great Video, however the music is to loud, and a bit annoying tbh.
Thanks for the info. Anyone else find the music level too loud. Is it too loud when I’m talking or when it’s just the music?
@@RCKickschannel when it's just the music.
@@richmax13 Thants for the info, I will lower the level 👍🏻
@@RCKickschannel some of the sound quality is awful, so bad I thought my phone was faulty 🤔
Hi I love your build videos but adds in the middle is a bit annoying
If adds bother you that much then pony up the $10/month for RUclips premium

I think as the hobby is still quite small in the uk it’s hard to make any money from it .
It's a cheaply made...RC 10 🙄 the one I had as a kid...was superior
kyosho let it be sourced out to China more than likely mate... that's what's happening to the whole world over... damn shame
