    I guess the biggest question for the Sentra right now is CVT transmission reliability. Supposedly Nissan has put a new generation CVT in the 2020 Sentra. Since they've gone all out with this new Sentra, it would seem logical that it's an improvement over their past CVT's.

    • @guigow2004
      @guigow2004 4 года назад +5

      Sentra's CVT is reliable.. This is the biggest BS in the auto industry right now.. And Sentra is more reliable than CIVIC, its always been like that.

    • @trent7080

      @@guigow2004 Exactly, Honda has been known to have transmission issues.

    • @Blank00
      @Blank00 3 года назад

      @@trent7080 Not lately. Honda's CVTs and 10-speeds are more reliable than the Nissan CVTs and the ZF 9-speeds that Nissan is using on the new pathfinder. The reason JD power ranked the Sentra as more reliable then the Civic is not the transmission, but rather, it's the 1.5t engine that caused the Civic to rank lower than the Sentra.

    • @Blank00
      @Blank00 3 года назад +1

      @@guigow2004 The reason the Civic is ranked lower than the Sentra is not because of Honda's CVT, in fact Honda's CVTs are on par with Subaru's in-house CVT which both Honda and Subie CVTs are better than JATCO CVTs. The reason why the Civic ranked lower is mainly because of the 1.5t dilutiongate.

    • @AwesomeJoe007

      Based on your engine comparison being a tie, I would give the edge to the Nissan Sentra for the reason that the 1.5L engine of Honda has had issues which upto now is unresolved except for the extended warranty. The oil dilution issue is definitely a disadvantage for Honda.

    I test drove all other brands in the class only like the VW Jetta but not for the price. Been leasing sentra's since 2007 my lease recently was running out just in time for the new model which I went with because of price, features and styling. A lot of people bring up their CVT but never had issues with mine or people I know maybe I have been lucky or the percentage of failers are small. A side note I do think the CVT on this new model is way better then the old outgoing model. I can't think of anything on my older lease Sentra as better then this new model also I could see the Sentra 2020 ser turbo being amazing car but for me it's not important and the cost to high..

She drove it gingerly for another 15,000 miles (in town only), and finally (after also putting in an alternator for $800.00), decided to get rid of it. Guess what she bought? The Honda Touring SUV Crossover. Her only complaint is that it only came with black interior, where her Murano had a beige interior. So far, she loves her new Honda. Oh, she has the 1.5ltr turbo.

    Reliability of the Sentra is just a prediction and nothing else.This is a new platform and it is not mature yet..meaning that there will be some issues for sure and hopefully they are all minor things. Civic 2016-2018 had also its own issue with the AC condenser failing prematurely.
    I and my wife tried both cars last week. Sentra interior and exterior design is aw some, its acceleration is a bit more impressive than the Civic, and the simulated change of gears works well. But Civic wins when taking a tight curve and for seat comfort. Headrest in Sentra is leaning too far forward, my wife is short and could not rest her back because of this. When doing a uturn and when parking with the Sentra, we had to turn the wheel drive a lot more than the Civic. The versatile center console in the Civic is aw some. Damn that blue Sentra SV :) but confort and handling is more important for us. Those circular vents should not be seen as a pro. Audi is ditching the circular vents and I can see why. My mom has a phone clamp that attaches to slatted vents, the type of vents found in current Civic and all the new Audis. The outgoing Audi A3 is the last Audi in the non sportscar category to have the circular vents and the 2021 A3 will have the slatted vents. Even the brand new Mercedes GLE and GLS are ditching the circular vents in favor of the traditional slatted vents that are practical enough to accomodate a phone clamp

    This gen Civic has been out for awhile which means the CR "reliability score" is based on facts and not estimates like the new Sentra. Nissan literally gave CVTs a bad name, so IDK about the risk here, even if the Sentra is really sharp looking and with really good value. I'd still rather pay more for the turbo Civic with a manual transmission. I'm sure I'll end up trying a Sentra in some rental fleet - if Nissan survives in the US.

    Sentra is prettier and more comfortable with better seats, interior and suspension. Civic looks weird and fussy , kind of chinese in its design elements. Civic 1.5 turbo has a serious oil dilution issue and will cause many a headache.

      I own a 2017 Civic and the interior is cheap. The lower liner of the carpet is loose around the floor wall. Go and check it out. I decided to dig my Civic and get a 2016 Accord since gas mileage is not that big different. I got more HP, Rooms and styling.
