B5D the plan is to eventually scale it up and use on house fires and eventually wildfires.
***** It's just a prototype. A proof of concept for their graduate degree. It hasn't been refined at all. It has lots of potential uses, but right now it's just the first portable example of something people have been researching for years. (And you forget, a fire extinguisher eventually runs out.) Don't be so negative. That's how innovation dies. Instead see the potential; you can't know if something is actually effective until you try it. You may be surprised.
In terms of home and wild fires, the two engineers thought it could be utilized with swarm robotics to prevent the endangerment of human life. But then again it's still only an idea. I don't know your background, but I feel like the scientific community wouldn't be so excited if there was no potential.
New favorite past time: watching Jimmy Falon be scared of science.

Hello. Nitrogen is important because it makes up ammonia, which is a fertilizer for crops.
The nitrogen in the air doesn't do shit for humans, the nitrogen we need is being taken in through food. The nitrogen in the air is the element N3, which cannot be altered unless you use a shittonn of energy to break it apart. Since humans can't deliver that amount of energy it's useless to us.
Also no, oxygen is more important. Try breathing nitrogen-only and tell me how long you survived. See that's funny cause you can't breathe nitrogen and you would die when the brain has used up your oxygen reserve, which is a little over 6 minutes. Your brain lives on the energy that our bodies create using oxygen in the molecule Adenosine-Tri-Fosfate and when there is no oxygen, there is no energy and the brain will die.
Meanwhile you can live weeks without the intake of nitrogen before your body would breakdown to a deficiency disease.

I know Jimmy has to act childish for comic relief but that barrel did the exact opposite of explode: implode.
They never said the barrel exploded. The action they used for what was going to do is "crush". They said the liquid nitrogen and ping pong ball experiment was going to cause an explosion not the barrel trick.
