Funny fact. Less headshot damage but more limb damage made the bugs deadlier overall.

They mentioned how they are trying to make the entire feel of the game as if the Helldivers are glass canons. They can dish out damage but they can easily get killed. And yeah things might have gotten easier now. But they plan for more difficulty levels higher then 10 and adding more enemies to die to.

@@kelmirosue3251 I don't like it to be honest. I don't like playing careful so I always play a more tank set up to cover my mistakes. I feel like if I make one I'm dead and I have to go get my support weapons. Makes it super hard to peek corners to return fire too. Maybe with more deployable cover I would like it more

@@somone755 that's fair, but also got to remember most bots don't have infinite rockets anymore, so the deployable bubble shield is something I'd suggest. Alternatively you can use the personal shield or the riot shield as well to help. Just try not to tank a rocket barrage and let the enemies waste their rockets

    • @Vespyr_
      @Vespyr_ 9 часов назад +12

I think the difficulty for the Bots is just about perfect. It hasn't gotten easier at all, while being far more entertaining as they no longer feel like you're hitting a brick wall when you shoot them. They flinch, and are vulnerable to so many more tools. The Arc Thrower can lock them down, and taking down tanks/walkers with the Thermite Grenade is a joy. For bugs it, definitely feels simpler. They just keel over to anything. The bugs are kind of a bore to me atm. Big shooting gallery.

Helldivers' advertisements and anything in the public eye seems to paint the game as a big bombastic horde shooter where you slaughter countless enemies in constant high-octane action, and the the game itself was heavily designed around the idea that your basic weapons don't work and that there is a very good likelihood that you will have to work slowly, methodically, and run away from fights in order to survive. Which... doesn't really go with the fantasy of charging headlong into your foes and getting the job done no matter how much blood is spilled in the process that the game advertises.

    • @VaygrX
      @VaygrX 7 часов назад +12

Not just that, but before if you had used your stratagems to take out one single heavy enemy, 5 more of said enemy would spawn and you'd have to run away until your stratagems were ready again.
And that's if your stratagems even managed to kill the enemies. Most would take two shots to properly take out a Bile Titan or behemoth. People also threw the argument that "it's a team game", but that argument fails when your team's equipment also doesn't work properly.
Now, even if our stratagems are in cooldown, we have effective ways to fight back until the big boom is ready. And even our stratagems actually feel effective now.

The big issue the community had was that Arrowhead broke their own "hard counter" design. Instead of having multiple tools to counter specific situations, there was 1 tool and 2 or 3 other ones that had been nerfed out of being capable of doing their intended job, sometimes because they were unintentionally good at filling another role, like the flamethrower being nerfed to stop being good against armor and becoming useless against hordes as a result.
For anti-armor, you had the EAT, the recoilless, and the SPEAR. Except the SPEAR had major issues with locking on and even when it hit it took at least 2 shots to kill, meaning that a full pack could only kill 2 or 3 targets and you needed to spend time reloading to take down 1. So that left the EAT and recoilless, but the recoilless was less useful for similar ammo reasons as the SPEAR - it has a lengthy reload and limited carry capacity, which meant that the EAT would give you more rounds over a period of time, meaning the only situations where the recoilless was better was if you needed more than 2 shots in under a minute and had the time to stop and reload. The railgun could fill that role as well, but then they nerfed it and nobody could find a situation where the railgun was worth taking over something that did that job better. It was useless against chaff and outclassed by the auto-cannon or anti-material rifle for medium targets.

Wasn't even that for me. There were "needless" nerfs, & I called them needless because when they nerfed weapons, nothing else was even remotely buffed to where the nerfed meta guns landed after their nerfs while the enemies leveled up. It wasn't even "hard counter" adjacent. It was, hey we nerfed some things, but they were only the only things that worked, but we gave some horrible weapons +5 damage. It looked like sabotage, & I know that sounds crazy, but I don't know what to think.

Game designers need to get it through their skulls. Yes, design matters. Direction matters. Balance matters. "Vision" got the game rolling in the first place.
The moment a game, especially an online one, goes live, it stops being all about whatever the devs want or think the game should be. Players now have input, and it's arguably more important than whatever the designers and developers want or think. Artistic vision and intended design are all well and good, but if large numbers of your players are saying both suck, than it's time to take a step back.

Arrowhead accidentally made the wrong game for the right audience.
The wrong game, because their intention was some sort of hardcore mil-sim, which feels really weird to me with all the humor and other elements that all really fit much better with the result: a super fun tactical coop power fantasy.
The right audience, because the evidence is clear: there is no sizeable audience interested in their original vision. But there is a massive audience for what they accidentally made.
Let's say I try to build what I think is going to be an SUV. It sells like crazy and people love it... As a tractor. It becomes one of the most popular farming vehicles in the world over-night.
Do I complain that no one appreciates my vision? Do I try to change the design to be less suitable for what people actually use it for?
Or do I shrug my shoulders, say 'cool, I am apparently really good at making tractors', and proceed to lean into providing the product I am actually able to find a market for?
The amount of toxic pride a small portion of arrowhead has displayed is truly staggering.
Sure, this isn't the original vision. But it's not like people were spitting at them. People LOVED what they made.
Yes, on some level, arrowhead was wrong. But their 'mistake' was more successful than anyone could ever hope for!
So to be as bitter as some devs on the team clearly were, to remain so fixated on their own vision of what the game should be in their eyes...
That's some 5-year old level of emotional maturity.

Creative pivoting is hard. You need to pivot your entire perspective, from design philosophy to design goal, all while continuing to work your ass off. The amount of mental load in that situation is harsh.
That's very very difficult. Writing it off as the result of "toxic pride" is a fundamentally uninformed perspective.

Ok, let's follow your analogy then.
You set out to build an SUV, and in the process made a vehicle that works as a great tractor. So now you listen to what your farming customers want, and before you know it their requests have Ship-of-Theseus'd your vehicle into being just another tractor the same as every other.
Now the unique appeal of your vehicle is gone.
This whole thing is quite funny, honestly. Arrowhead's motto is "a game for everyone is a game for no one", one of the most common mantras you see in Gamer discourse. That analogy I just gave is literally the reason AAA games are so watered-down and homogenized. It's what all the Gamers _say_ will happen to From Software's games if they ever add an easy mode or even a pause button.
And yet, here we are. Gamer ignorance and hypocrisy at the fore once again. I wonder how long it'll be before the power-creep sets in and players get bored. Next they'll probably ask for more vertical progression. How long until we're Helldiving for color-coded loot? With a Battle Royale mode on the side?

Perfect example from yesterday for memorable moments - joined two randoms on a bot defence mission, 15 minute time limit. Set up mortars for ground troops and ourselves with heavy weapons to take down drop ships. Final five mins, without communicating in chat, one guy picks up the recoiless rifle backpack and helps the other guy load, so I put away my weapon and become a spotter for the rest of the game. And it was just a sweet moment of me tagging ships and the other team firing - and it was great to see the recoiless rifle back in action as I've not seen it used since launch when I used to run it with friends on the grind to get better stratagems.

I do not care even a little bit about what their "vision" for the game is. They sold a product then changed the product until it was nearly unrecognizable. My problem with most "difficulty" in games is the cliche of the bullet-sponge. Difficulty should be a matter of three factors: Aggression, abilities, numbers.
Aggression variance can be things like detection range, speed, and cone. As well as delay between actions taken and how many overlapping mob actions are allowed.
Abilities variance should simply be different mob abilities depending on difficulty, and ideally with some being used in multiple or all difficulties. Abilities used in multiple difficulties could have different timings as well.
Numbers are merely how many mobs are spawned in via scripting. More for higher difficulty. Can also be more challenging mobs, but they remain statistically consistent regardless of difficulty.
I feel the "bullet-sponge" concept should've died back in the arcades where it came from.

They knowingly went ott with them nerfs and didn't make the necessary amendments in the hopes no one noticed.
And only balanced properly when the backlash happened.

I want Left 4 Dead 2 in space with bugs and terminators. I want to be overrun and die in a blaze of glory, not walled into oblivion. Not power fantasy, but I want to be able to deal with anything that comes my way with whatever I have. If my loadout is better in the situation I'm in then all the better. I don't think a mob grinder game should be so stiff in it's rulesets when you'll be facing everything at some point and you won't have everything at your disposal, people die, people leave, people will be people. These are good changes.

Sony REALLY should just allow those people in those other countries just buy and play the damn game without a PS account. It would be a GREAT goodwill move and it would add a LOT of players

It's not about the difficulty. Its about how the gamę feels.
DS feels good, it's Vibe, marketing and gameplay flow togather seemlessly. It's brutal but if you excell with your skill you can overcome everything. Meanwhile in HD we had a crash between mechanics, promotional materials and Vibe of the game. If you want us to feel expendable send 32 of us on a single mission, make stratagems less available to singular characters and only than should you ever make guns feel weak.

After playing against bugs for a few days i can say that this patch is a huge improvlemnt, but not perfect. Currently HP is bugged so limbs take extra damage, making divers far more squishy. But when compaired with how the bugs are now more squishy it balances out nicely. You have the tools to stay on top of things, but if you dont then you get punished for it. It feels like i can take any tool into any situation and have a chance to survive, but if i stick to a weapons strengths and my teamates strengths then we can survive anything.

I wouldn't have minded a Rock, Paper, Scissors style of play if there were more viable options. Prior to this patch, 2/3rds of the available primaries were outright useless. Half of the support weapons couldn't effectively counter the things they were supposed to counter. Flame weapons didn't even function correctly while also looking like dogshit visually. There were only 2 grenades worth taking. And anytime the playerbase gravitated toward a particular weapon because it actually did its job effectively, it would get nerfed. It created a frustrating gameplay loop of kiting the enemy in circles while waiting for strategems to come off cooldown, since the weapons in your hands were practically worthless. It wasn't Rock, Paper, Scissors gameplay, it was "You have paper, and the enemy has a rocket launcher."

Honestly the game should be able to have booth. With its already present dificultly system and some very precise balancing the game can maintain that brutality at higher dificultlys.

Nice to know its playable again. It should never have been missmanaged to this point. Them saving themselves from the chopping block isnt praise worthy. Itll be a long time until they rebuild the trust they burned.
Atm the game isnt worth investing in when its this swingy.

The main issue that will keep people from every coming back or ever playing is the Sony PSN account requirement and the countries blocked from ever buying the game... Sony will never lift this requirement as they then lose all the control and DATA that they wanna sell for profit.

I like a mix of both, I like to have the power fantasy of killing tones of bugs and bots. But also having to manage it. Give me the feeling that I’m taking out the hoard but if I mess up I can easily be destroyed. By introducing new enemies and challenges is how we bring in the difficulty

I thouroughly enjoy this update, I certainly don't want the game to be too easy but that's what we have difficulties for, they should be tuned in a way that's fun AND challenging.

  • @MithrilRoshi

It was never a hard / punishing game. It was tedious. There was no challenge, no skill to test yourself. It was just damage sponges.
    Now its fun

    I disagree with 2 points
    1) what hurt the game alot was most of the primary weapons felt bad to use. It sucks when you get attached to a comfort load out and then find it sucks now, espically when you're playing with a group.
    2) dark souls does have an easy mode. It's called coop. And from software did cater in a sense they just did it right. As the games went on they made getting into coop easier and in elden ring they expanded on this by making spirit ashes.
Imo what we had here was a vision muddled by close mindedness. As with everything in life you need to be flexible as we said in the USMC. Semper Gumby

Let this be a lesson to all devs with multiplayer games.
The sweaty 3000hr+ tryhards who do nothing but run loops of endgame content are a super minority of your average player base and what they complain about or want is (in most cases) totally irrelevant to what 90% of the actual player base wants.
Catering to them will usually just kill your game, less invested players will simply leave for something more fun. People want challenge, not a battle of wills with the devs to see who gets frustrated and gives up first.
Ignore the sweaty metagamers, get 400% more people playing, most of them are probably people who are coming back after previously quitting.
