  • Habiba Hassan, a mother from Mashamari Layin Lawanti in Jere LGA, Borno State, used to follow traditional newborn care practices, including discarding colostrum.
. . . “We used to throw away colostrum, not knowing its value,” she said. “But now, I’ve learned it’s like a first immunization-it fights diseases and protects the baby.”
Through a recent training from GHIV Africa, Habiba also discovered the life-changing benefits of exclusive breastfeeding. “We thought newborns needed water to survive,” she explained. “Now I know exclusive breastfeeding makes babies stronger, protects against illness, and helps them grow healthier.”
With this knowledge, Habiba is determined to inspire change in her community. “This training has opened our eyes. I will share what I’ve learned with other mothers,” she added.
