    Why do people always get this wrong?
    1st, the MSRP was $65k. Most people could not afford that in the 1990s.
    2nd, the dealerships were greedy and marked them up to $95k.
    (Edit) *Not just in USA. These cars were not sold in large number world-wide, so every dealership marked them up when they got them.
    That's the REAL reason no one bought them and it failed. Thus, they stopped making them.
    Have they gotten cheaper now?
    Absolutely not. They're even more expensive now because they are rare and collectibles.
    Edit: Now the newer version is more expensive than the original ever was.

      You don't think so?!!!
      Well, let's see what experts say:
      "In 15 years of production, from 1990 to 2005, 18,685 NSXs were built, so it wasn't a total sales disaster. Of those, 8997 went to the US, where they were badged Acura NSX, but just 1559 came to Europe, the Middle East and Africa."
      Holy Sheetz!
      Yeah. I think the US Mark up from $60k to $95k is what killed that car. Since a vast majority of them were sent to the USA.

      @tehtehkhantengames8580 13 дней назад +3

      yep, and it was beat out by many cheaper cars like the C5 corvette that had a massive aftermarket and cheap fixes. The new NSX failed just like the old one because they keep making well rounded, entry level supercars that cost 40% more than they should. Why on earth would I buy a honda over a mcclaren or mercerdez that has better build quality, is faster, and has a more robust aftermarket.
      The og NSX will always be on my list, but for the money I am able to buy and twin turbo a c8 that is better in every way but styling... and thats subjective.

    It was a really good car and so much better than the competition when it came out in 1991, but they made it until 2005 with only very minor changes. In 1991, the 290 hp engine was very much adequate for a car of this size and weight, but in 2005 you could already buy a Ferrari 430 with almost 500 hp and Porsche was close to 500 hp with the 996 GT2 in 2001 already. Even the extremely lightweight NSX-R could not keep up with that. Honda should have given this car considerably more power as part of the mid-cycle refresh if they wanted it to remain relevant near the end of its production run. 290 hp was very high power in 1991, but in 2005 it was legit nothing for a supercar, even an Audi S4 had more power than that.

    One of the issues with the NSX was some owners expected Honda level wear item longevity and reasonable costs to replace those wear items.
    The NSX wore out tires just cruising on the highway. Fronts lasted around 10k miles, rears lasted around 5k miles.
    The OE tires were CRITICAL in maintaining proper handling, because the casings were produced with a bias that made all 4 tires roll towards the centerline of the car. This roll bias "pre-loaded" all the suspension components and the steering rack.
    These tires were ONLY available at Honda/Acura dealers, and were VERY expensive.
    This was how the Honda engineers designed the NSX to have INSTANTANEOUS response. Non OE tires weren't AT ALL capable of maintaining that level of responsiveness. PERIOD!
    Honda was hit with a class action lawsuit in the US. Owners wanted their "supercar" performance to come with economy car cost of ownership, just because of the badges on the car. 🙄 The initial owners were really idiotic when it came to operation costs of their NSXs.
    Wanted to have their cake, and eat it too.

    It didnt fail. They sold 19,000 cars. For a first shot at a supercar, thats impressive. Most companies wouldve sold 1/10th of that on their first try.
    What they needed was a second generation car in 1997 or 1998 instead of a refresh. By 2000 ferrari had the 360 out with 400 hoursepower, and Lamborghini was about to drop the gallardo.
    They both took all the lessons the nsx taught them and ran with it, while honda just stagnated.
    A 380hp nsx in 98 with a mid cycle refresh in 2003 to 440hp wouldve kept it relevant. They couldnt fall back on its dynamics and ease of use anymore because the italians caught up.
    Not to meantion the c5 corvette, which was just as fast, but _less than_ 1/2 the price in 1997. ($37k vs $85k). No dount the nsx was a better car. But it wasnt double the price better. And by 2004, the corvette zo6 was running circles around it. For, still, half the price.

      The NSX built the 355. Ferrari took the 348 and fixed everything that was wrong with it. Literally, everything; and made it more like the NSX. Without the NSX shaking things up, there wouldn't have been a 355.
      And I'm not a hater. I LOVE the 355 and would want one before an NSX. Because you're not wrong. The 355 has the drama and emotion of a Ferrari. But it got it's practicality and drivability in reaction to the NSX.
      Even Lamborghini had to tame the Diablo. The VT in 94 had better A/C, a more user friendly interior, power steering, a lighter clutch, and much better driving dynamics than the older 2wd cars. We're people cross shopping and NSX and a diablo? Absolutely they were. The automotive media at the time was absolutely in love with the NSX.
      The NSX made supercars better because it showed the world they didn't need to be hard to drive and uncomfortable.

    Although they are very good at racing, the most these cars made stock was maybe over 300 hp and these things were light but still pretty heavy and no these things are not supercars, these are sports class cars and they couldn't even compete with the corvette of its time

    Weird I'm from SA , used to read a lot of car magazines in the 90's never came across this until I bought Forza motorsport and a Xbox 360 console in the the more recent years. Was amazed by this car and how I missed ever seeing it , its not 1 of the best Honda's it is the best looking and the best

  • @matthewnicholas6365
    @matthewnicholas6365 2 месяца назад

    It looked bland in the 90s vs the exotic cars it went up against. A V6 with "under 300hp" wasn't exactly tempting either.
    However, now most of its period rivals are gone or locked up and there's actually a good few NSX's around, they actually look better than ever. There's not many proper looking mid engine supercar-esque cars about.

  • @AshBarrett
    @AshBarrett 2 месяца назад

    It was far more expensive at that time. A 911 was well cheaper, for example.

  • @narrowistheway77

    The first three years of production were completely sold out. At first it was practically unobtainable and you went on a years long wait list. It was only in the mid to late 90’s that sales fell off and it all goes back to that wait list, if they’d built the factory to produce more NSX’s to meet the demand, there’d be a much different story

    • @noahjessup9342
      @noahjessup9342 2 месяца назад

      Each NSX was assembled by hand by the top engineers Honda had available from their workforce at the Tochigi factory in Japan. It was maximum effort by Honda to ensure quality. Changing the formula would've meant less attention to detail and defects. Later the same factory would be used to build S2000's

    • @narrowistheway77
      @narrowistheway77 2 месяца назад

      @@noahjessup9342 I knew all of that already. My point was that they didn’t train and hire enough enough workers and build a large enough factory to meet the demand, and since they couldn’t meet demand everyone got interested in other cars where the dealers weren’t charging a markup and they didn’t have to wait longer than 6 months to receive their car. By the time the waiting list was cleared people weren’t even aware of it, they still thought of the NSX as some unobtainable car they’d be waiting years to receive if they even tried to order one. It’s really unfortunate because this is the greatest sports car of the 1990’s that cost under $100k brand new

    Nah it was because Japan had the "Gentleman's Agreement" of a 280 hp limit, which was plenty enough for most people by lowering the weight but the people at the time would rather have more hp for the money, even though it meant extra weight etc etc making it fast in a straight line, but handled like sh*t

    It failed because it landed in the affordability gap, to much for a normal person and not enough to be a status symbol. We all thought it was the coolest car but it was not priced right.

    I just saw one yesterday on the road. No Ferrari could break my neck like an NSX. Ferraris are a bland and slowly driven status symbol of those quick to litigate. The NSX was made to be driven and enjoyed to its fullest.

      Yet the majority of people who actually have the money to drive such cars and do so clearly disagree, as mentioned in the video. You are only of that opinion because Hondas are people cars and this was an underdog, if you had all the money in the world, you would hold different views.
