In this clip, Shawn Prez started off speaking to Stephanie Mills about her song “Home,” which she said she improved after making it more urban. Stephanie explained that she wanted to remind people of the wonderful music from “The Wiz,” and she stated that it was her idea to redo the song. From there, Stephanie spoke about the passing of Teddy Pendergrass and Michael Jackson, and she added that Prince’s death also hit her hard. When it comes to Michael, Stephanie admitted that she never knew that he was on drugs, and she added that it was hard to accept the tragedy of his and Whitney Houston’s death. Stephanie stated that Michael didn’t have the right people around him, and she went on to speak about her interactions with Prince. From there, Stephanie spoke about responding to Sam Smith for saying that he wasn’t a fan of Michael Jackson, and Stephanie admitted that she was sensitive about Michael. I find his style less than engaging. It feels like it’s trying to be conversational, but it’s really just plot beat to plot beat. It’s a lot like Vlad except less self-centric.

I saw her on Broadway when i was like 6 years old and that song still affects me I was a little girl and I stared at her the emotion made me listen and I was moved by the clarity and timber in her voice.

When Jackie Wilson and David Ruffin’s families couldn’t afford their funerals, Michael Jackson stepped in, when he found Little Richard’s catalog in the ATV Music Catalog he gave it back to Richard, he sponsored hundreds of black doctors, nurses, and creatives with his scholarship fund, he took thousands of inner city school kids with no chance of ever visiting Disneyland and brought them to Neverland on a school trips. This is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of what he gave back to the community not related to his ridiculous talent. Bob Marley didn’t even do anywhere near this much for the Jamaican or Caribbean communities but they understand his worth and refuse even the thought of slander and white people know this, which is why they stay clear from him.

I never understood why people were so upset with Sam Smith for not liking Michael Jackson. People acted like he's obligated to like someone just because of their status. He probably respects and acknowledges Michael, his achievements, and his impact on the industry. But that doesn't mean he has to be a fan.

That isn’t the point of whether Sam Smith likes Michael Jackson or not.
Stephanie’s issue is this: Sam Smith gets their influence from Black artists. They shouldn’t be disrespectful. Because the comment was a little condescending after they commented that Human Nature was “decent”, yet the entire Thriller album goes down as one of the most sold, and best in history. So it’s far from decent.
You can’t bite the hand that is also paying your checks too, and the back bone of your music.

The biggest shade was when she said Sam is imitating Sylvester. Many white artist try to copy black artists. Since they are white they get the white audience and it’s seems edgy or new to them.
