Definitely used to be, would try to scour the internet back in 2001-2005 for all kinds of inside information like this on Tom and his Rigs, only ever ended up in crappy little fan forums with people mostly speculating. Maaaybe on occasion you'd find some interview that a guy recorded from MTV and put up onto Kazaa/Morpheus/Limewire/Bearshare, if it hadn't already been picked up and injected with malware by hackers. This is certainly refreshing after all those years of mystery and unanswered questions.
I like both of his rigs honestly, they both sound good in their own ways. Dave Grohl had it right in the late 90s and early 2000s by combining the AC30 for cleans with the Mesa Rectifier for dirty
Ok. Let me clear this up. Tom uses Vox ac30' s and Fender Twins and they' re amazing amps, but he doesn' t mic the speakers from the combos.. That' s the real reason why his tone sucks live. He uses palmer load box with built in cab simulation. I hope he's going to get an iso cab or use IR Impulses, because other cab simulations suck.. And I agree that mesa/marshall combo worked better for the old blink sound, but he' s trying different things now and their music has changed a lot, so these amps suit him very well. And by the way, vox and fender amps sound amazing when properly miced.. :)
The reason why people don’t like his Vox and Fender tone is because Tom runs the amps though PA speakers (which are normally used for microphones) but if he were to use a real guitar cabinet like a Mesa or Marshall 4x12 it would sound good
i seriously dont get what the problem of you guys is. the vox just sounds incredibly amazing and thanks to him ive got a nice little vox ac15 vr and tbh i couldnt be happier! its fucking perfect for blink songs. blink 182 has always been my favourite band since im into punk rock music which is now quite a long time. im using the vox with a epiphone tom delonge guitar and it just sounds like the old stuff if you want it to sound like that. theres always settings u can tweak and believe me u can get all the old blink sounds out of that gear. again i fucking love that gear and it sounds sooo awesome
I got that same amp and it is amazing. Though I find it funny since I use the distortion channel as a clean and use a distortion pedal for... distortion. I like how the tone is very clean.
He still has his old equipment, of course, but he really does use his Vox a lot nowadays. Just Fender & Vox live. He honestly really likes Vox, lol. He could get free amps from more than just Vox I bet, if he wanted, he just chooses to use them. (To quote Doug Reesh, his guitar tech, to me: "Tom loves his Vox amps. I don't know why he wants me to destroy them.")
@@powerface71 if you say that Tom isn’t skilled in his style you need to get back to the drawing board and think a little more. Complexity and skill are separate if you ask me, though each can be impressive in their own extreme.
He's been using the vox in the studio since 2003. There is a magazine photo with him sitting on an AC30. Go look for it. I'm sure its not too hard to find either, its a popular photo/
jupiramaster wrong. I play guitar. I owned a 3 channel mesa dual rectifier and sold it. its thick and heavy but not much note definition. my favorite delonge tone is on their self titled album. ...to each their own man
yes self titled was good wth gibson tom delonge "new" (now old) guitar, but now his vox does not sound good for me, I like the mesa better and with the old tom delonge fenders...
He had one of the best tones when he was mixing the marshal and mesa...He obviously said that because vox gives him free amps lol and hes using them so...
+blink-44 Because when they played live they actually wired their amps into the P.A system and not mic'd up cabs, therefore it'd lose majority of the punchy sound
The reason why the guitars sound like shit on live performances is because the Vox's and the Fender's are not miked up, but instead the direct signal from the amp is fed through the PA system. Maybe if he had them miked it would've sounded a lot better.
The problem here is that AC30's are great amps, in fact probably some of the most incredible amps you'll ever hear. And Tom is correct, most guitarists these days will have an AC30 in their mix. But Tom doesn't know how to use one. He treats it like a conventional guitar amp where you plug in all your digital effects and make the biggest sound possible. His live tone is so tinny and defined that it almost sounds like it's coming from a practice amp. It sounds like he just cranks the treble and middle all the way up and sets the gain to halfway, and it sounds ridiculous. There's no possible way he's got people phoning him, telling him that his tone is amazing. Probably doesn't help that he's using no cabinet to back it up either.
in the first date video, you can see a Orange stack... and in Josie video, you can see a Gibson les paul................... HE DIDNT JUST USE ONE RIG PER ERA!!!!
This is a Paid Ad from VOX, off course he's going to talk about how excellent this amp is. But if you see Tom's gear in Instagram and Facebook you can see alot of Mesa, Marshall and even Orange heads.
Every time I listen to the new (reunion)blink stuff I'm like "Uhm, I can't hear that fucking guitar!!" Maybe it's mixed to low or it's because those Amps!
there a pop punk band (or at least they used to be), that means fast, heavy distortion, and high pitched vocals. voxes arent bad there just not meant for punk music.
People don’t understand that this amp combinations actually sound good if you use a real guitar cabinet, the reason why it sounds terrible during live performances is because he runs the amps through PA speakers instead of actual guitar cabinets, believe me, it would sound much better through a Mesa or Marshall 4x12
how can he say that starting out with a triple rec is wrong lol it was perfect for the style of music he played...hence i say played and not plays...enema of the state i miss you..no pun intended
***** I just bought David Kennedy's (guitarist from AVA) spray painted, roman numeral (I XII I = A V A) Tom Delonge ES333 from the Reissued app (Jennifer Delonge, Tom's wife, runs the app). I am due to receive it next week. I'll let you know how the real thing sounds through my collection of amps (Fender EC Twinolux, Fender EC Vibro Champ, 65 Amps Ventura).
If Tom uses a Vox and has spent $1,000 on just ONE of them, why the fuck should I get one. His tone is shit, at least not as bad as a lot of other people's
Cody Warner No triple recs. Also the Mesa cabs were just for show. They used marshal jmp-1, and Mesa boogie triaxis preamps, along with a Marshall el34 power amp, and palmer speaker simulators (same speaker simulators are used with the vox’s and fenders).
Problem with Tom is he talks bull and you kids are happy to get spoon fed it. His "old" sound and songs got him where he is today and all he does is complain about these things. If this guy was start out now as a "nobody" he'd get no where with his out of tune singing and views. He should be more greatful of his past and tbh the only he's done with ava if drop reverbs, delays n synths etc all over everything, Take it all away and he's still playing the same music he always has.
everyone grows up and changes. you can't expect him to be the same as he was 20 years ago. he's human. now stfu about him not playing like he used to and not using his old gear.
So is Tom a Christian now? To become a Freemason you must be a part of an organized religion, what one does Tom follow. So sad they got to him. Now I know for sure the aliens shit was all a giant joke.
The moment when you realize how obsessed with Tom and blink-182 you truly are

Haha true
Oh dear yes

he loves AVA more
Yes that's a fact
stratocaster and Marshall blows that away
Got to love Tom and his accent
Absolutely... Like he said, EVEN HE DIDNT EXPECT THAT. I play through vox amps too... I can get about any sound I choose.

more people use palmer speaker emulators than you think and they're not the reason why his new tone sucks.
Hope that one day Tom will go back to his mesa tone.... It's way better than his new vox tone....

Both of my favourite guitarists, Brian May and Tom Delonge love Vox amp
Little does he know his live tone was far better before Vox
Tom isn't known for his leet skill on a guitar, punk requires no skill. Don't mention them in the same sentence! May is a LEGEND!

yep he uses fender twins for cleans. I kinda miss the mesa/marshall set up he use to play
he said he RECORDED all the angels stuff with it. he might not have started to actually use it live till later
he more proud with ava than blink!
because its his own band
@@CharliesMaidenCovers AVA : Toms band

I reccomend Vox's to everyone I meet. However, he needs to go back to his Marshall/Mesa rig. That was an amazing rig!
I love vox amps but i think his old tone suited blink better. I like vox and fender for AVA but not for blink. just my opinion. cheers.

tom delonge's real sound is fender strat and mesa amplifiers in my opinion
you mean your favorite... his new sound is just as real as the old one.
you obviously dont play guitar

***** how old are you
His signature Gibson.
yeah i guess youre right, especially when blink does the old tunes
Vox sounds good for his AVA stuff but for blink he should really go back to his Mesa boogie cause that's the blink sound, not a Vox
Don't turn your back on Mesa-Boogie you and I both know that would be a mistake Tom Delonge.
When I first saw the thumbnail, I thought it was Leo Dehoe for a second 😂
He had one of the best tones when he was mixing the marshal and mesa...He obviously said that because vox gives him free amps lol and hes using them so...
damn bro was really glazing that ac30
Dude i meant for it to mean like he is all badass.
idk, i like vox, but i prefer the raw british marshall plexi sound
It all depends by the tastes, dude. Personally I don't like new blink's sound I prefer the modern distortion from the Mesa.
Funny thing is, for Tv performances, his guitar sounded like complete shit.
+blink-44 God damn horrific
+blink-44 Because when they played live they actually wired their amps into the P.A system and not mic'd up cabs, therefore it'd lose majority of the punchy sound
PhyonixProductions Yeah I mean maybe that affected it but aside from that his sound was total dog-shit. The effects he used live were repulsive.
The reason why the guitars sound like shit on live performances is because the Vox's and the Fender's are not miked up, but instead the direct signal from the amp is fed through the PA system. Maybe if he had them miked it would've sounded a lot better.
It depends heavily on the venue too, regardless of amp some venues will sound shit also the mixing playsa huge part..

I agree with what you said. His sound was mesa boogie. Right?
carltonlong1985 He used to use a Triple Rectifier up until about 2008 :)
He is talking about studio wise.
He blends them.

but the first AVA album used Mesa boogies thoo....
Cool jaket
People don't seem to realize he's talking about the gear he uses to record, not perform live.
In enema, he used Mesa boogie and what cab?
Tom can you make me a guitar
I got a Vox too and it's the best amp you can have for sure
Money talks
Tom should go back to his Mesa and the SD Invader loaded Strats
Yeah but the tone isn't as good
Wrong. Tom's live sound always sucked, but his recorded tones were Gibson Les Pauls and SGs through Matchless Amps.

whats is the name

save the best for last. but yr reading into it too much it doesnt mean shit he said it second

Kinda looks like a Freemason symbol there..
i have a VOX amp!
It sounds good until you run it straight to PA. Then it sounds like crap.

Mesa Boogie & Marshall > VOX
its like a vox commercial. you cant compare his perfect-for pop punk-sound of mesa with this new crappy distortions he uses in recent live shows
