Those guys are fast!! Just kidding, but I really enjoy watching this old footage. There seems to be a kind of purity in it. This was karate before sport karate and mma became so popular. Now it looks the same, but for the most part it is a remnant of the past
@soparamens 1st of all, well done for getting to 1st kyu and good luck for your dan grading. May i suggest one thing if you're gonna do bunkai, study Ju Jitsu and your kata's will come alive and give you a fuller understanding. After all, the main ingredients for karate is Shaolin, Ju Jitsu and of course To Te. You could use your imagination but it makes me cringe seeing sensei create weak bunkai. hope this helps.
@soparamens I think bunkai and such are even worse. You have to drill similar to how you will fight in order to practice tai-sabaki, then practice trying to get those moves off in jiyu-kumite/free-sparring. That + basics training, conditioning, and drilling combinations you plan to really use in line & pad drills constitutes the bulk of real Karate training IMO.
You are right my friend!! Goju is Better!! Fighting in neko ahi dachi is very good!! you can fall backward every time KKKKKKKKK Its seems that you were kicked on your as by a Shotokan Karateca.....I understand you problem. Its very common.
Thanks for the post...it is greatly appreciated.
Thank you for posting this rare footage.

Super, best thanks.
Ossu.
Nice. They had better standard of kihon back then, even among the western blackbelts
Funny to see him showing his class a round punch, something that's basically (and unfortunately) disappeared from modern Shotokan.

You are both arrogant and ignorant, and you are not doing justice to the style from which you got your nickname.
