  • Dr. Robbie George steers the audience through the different aspects of vascular surgery, when it is required, precautions, and some treatment plans via this discussion. He initiates by speaking about vascular surgeons being an exceptional and unique group of physicians in the medical fraternity that India is still not well acquainted with. This group of professionals deal with the science and art of blood vessels and every issue surrounding it. He then moves on to explain what blood vessels are and what function it serves the body. He then talks about the issues and the treatment surrounding it. Issues such as a sudden blockage in a part of the blood vessel or slow blockage in a part or parts of the blood vessel can lead to different issues. The former can lead to gangrene and losing a leg, a hand, or a stroke. While the latter can lead to difficulty in moving, speaking, and experiencing constant pain around the body. Blood vessels can also get weak and bigger in size and in turn become thinner and fragile. This can cause them to burst and lead to a life-threatening situation.
He moves on to the treatment and talks about how medical interventions, medications, tablets, and some restrictions are put on the patients. Patients are asked to reduce their intake of sugar and salt and stop smoking. He then talks about medical intervention methodologies like surgery, angioplasty, and vascular stenting and says how vascular surgeons are equipped to perform both surgeries and the latter procedures. He wraps the session up by saying that surgeons can choose to use one treatment or a combination of two depending upon the patient requirements to ensure holistic treatment of the patient.
Dr. Robbie George is the chief of vascular and endovascular surgery at Narayana Health City in Bangalore.

Can I ask you one question doctor. After angioplasty of left leg main artery blockage a stent of one inch long was placed. After six months still there is feeling of tightness, extreme sensitivity to touch and pain and all this is continuous and has not improved even after 6 months. So what is the cause of it?. Is the angioplasty and the stent failed, because I still see that the sole of my foot is still looking white and not like the right foot dole, which is pink ?
The doctor who did it told me that it is a mechanical problem as he had opened the artery.
Should I do colour Doppler once again and see that the angioplasty was properly done or not. Because there is continuous pain still there in the foot , tightness and extreme sensitivity to touch and it hurts.
    Please guide me.
    Thank you
May all be happy and at ease, free from dis-ease.
