  • A lovely day for a herb harvest and I go around the garden gathering roses, medicinal herbs and culinary herbs. I also share my experience of the first steps on a druidic path. Last week I visited the Celtic Druid Temple in Roscommon for a four day introduction to indigenous spirituality. All the details are below.
    Music is by Lol Hardiman. You can find him here lolhardimanmusic.com/ and sign up for his RUclips channel here

    My first steps on the druidic path were spent here :-www.celticdruidtemple.com/ My teachers Con and Niamh speak from the heart and are working to restore indigenous woodland in Ireland. They have reforested 16 acres among which is a young Oak forest. Take a look.
    Thanks for watching!

    I am so glad to know that you are taking your first steps at discovering the native spiritual heritage of your indigenous Celtic ancestors, and learning about your ethnic roots. All my life I have always been drawn to ancient or medieval history, architecture, art, music, fairy lore and wild nature. I’ve always loved the fantasy world of dragons castles and dwarfs mermaids etc. however unlike others, I saw them there was some truth to it. I thought that these things have a basis in truth and reality. Although I am interested in the mythology of all cultures, most of all I was drawn to the mythology and folklore of ethnic Europeans, and not until very recently did I understand that all this interest in medieval and ancient things and wild nature it was my ancestors calling out to me, and the consciousness of planet earth herself reaching me, awakening within me the ability to tap into that intelligence, that genetic memory, ancestral collective subconscious. All humans have within themselves this capacity, the ability to tap into the ancestral subconscious. Everyone can learn important things from their own ancestors, and learn about the time on this planet when all indigenous people live in harmony with nature. Good luck to you on your journey.

      @@DanusIrishHerbGarden I'm in the center of the USA. Sub-tropical humidity. 87degrees at 10pm, 88degrees at 10am, with highs in the mid 90's. 10 days so far and at least that many days of this in the forecast. June is typically a moderate month, with average high in the 80's, and nights in the 60's. The cities open cooling centers during the day to help the houseless, but this is hard on all living things....already had widespread power outages twice. Sorry to share such dismal stuff, but that's whats happening. Seeing your beautiful place is always a treat.

    I currently am apartment living but I have as many herbs as possible growing on my balcony. In the past year I’ve taken much interest in the Celtic ways and have found that learning to flow with the seasons has helped with the seasonal depression/anxiety I used to struggle with. I’ve discarded much of my religious upbringing and instead found the Celtic Christian views of a God as the Lord of the Elements so much more refreshing and understandable. My ancestry is nearly all Scottish and Irish so there is the feeling of returning to something I once deeply knew and rediscovering it. Thank you for another great video and for bringing a little corner of your Ireland to us all to enjoy. 😊

      Hello Ivy. Glad to hear your flow with the seasons has helped relieve SAD. Lots of herbs can help too. I find it so interesting these days that so many people are feeling a calling to their ancestral roots, which i hope will benefit the planet as well. xx

    It's very intriguing talking about magic and the elements. Indigenous peoples of North America use the four directions of east, south, west, and north representative of the elements with your place in the center. The vertical plane offers three more directions--Father Sky above, Mother Earth below, and Beauty within the ❤️. It is clear to see that you walk with Beauty. ❤ The trio of earth, wind, and sea fits perfectly for Ireland and it's unique sense of magic.🧚‍♂️🧚🛸🛸

    Your garden is looking lovely Terri and always enjoy Lol's music and watching the doggies having a nice time. We are getting a big garden going too for food security this year on the farm we worked/lived on. A bit delayed because of my illness but we have 5 types of potatoes, 3 types of carrots, pumpkins, squash, courgette and cucumbers so far and will be planting greens, onions and some herbs :)

    Motherwort grows wild all around my neighbourhood. Like many other fantastic & useful weeds, once I learned to recognize it, I started to see it everywhere. I am impressed by the red lunaria - I have never seen those before. I have only seen lunaria that are silvery-white! I am impressed by the diversity of your garden, and I enjoy watching these every Sunday night. Cheers from Canada!

      Thanks Ian, glad you are enjoying the films. Lunaria in our garden is a lovely purple when in flower although it can be any colour from white, lilac, mauve and red. The seed pods will turn white. Motherwort doesn't grow wild here though but is doing well in the garden. Happy Days!

    You have so many of the same herbs that grow here in my garden. It's been cool, wet and dreary here for weeks so garden work is behind this year. All those things, perennials and shrubby herbs, have been growing like crazy with all the rain. I've just started collecting herbs too. Generally I try to have all the herbs I will need for the year collected and dried by mid-July, before plants are over mature and not as succulent. There is still a lot of snow in the mountains here so this year we shouldn't be having a really bad fire season which is a relief. I heard a tree frog croaking somewhere from its secret place in my front flower bed this past week. I love those little critters but they have become very rare over the past twenty years in this area. I'm seeing more swallows this year too which is a good sign. A few days ago I watched a mother bear with her cub lounging in a big field of blooming wild carrot. Both mother and cub had stood up on their hind legs to take a good look at me. It made me happy knowing mother bear was out in that large field, feeling secure and at ease, suckling her little cub. Really connecting to the earth, sea and sky gives us a sacred view of creation and existence. Druids knew (know) all about that. Thanks for your fine video. Have great summer.

    Hello, I've been so busy in my own garden I haven't had time to comment lately. I'm so excited to see things growing in our new gardens! I have two little plant stories I wanted to share with you. I saw a very big plant growing in a new bed, where we transplanted many of our old potted plants. (We moved here over a year ago and so many things were in pots and unrecognizable.) I left the plant to grow so I could identify it, posted a picture on a Facebook gardening group and everyone said it was oil seed rape, but it wasn't. My husband did an image search and we found out it's Charlock, wild mustard! In the field guides it says how invasive it is and the seeds can sit around for 40 years and be viable. I found it interesting as it made me wonder if someone who lived here before may have grown it? Or was it wild in the feilds? Most people would yank it out but we love it, covered with tons of yellow flowers and I found out edible. Can you tell me anything more about it, as I consider your knowledge to go beyond the typical! The other plant story is I had planted camomile last year and none came up, but I saw a tiny plant starting in our garden that had leaves like camomile so I left it, thinking somehow it got seeded there. Well you've never seen a bigger, healthier Pineapple Weed in your life! Hahaha, I love Pineapple Weed but have only seen it grow struggling on gravel drives and paths, this one is leading the life of Riley! It's about 1 1/2 feet wide! Wish I could share pictures. Can you also tell me how I can use pineapple weed? Thanks for your wonderful videos, they really are a bright spot in the universe!

    • @DanusIrishHerbGarden
      @DanusIrishHerbGarden  2 года назад +1

      Charlock is an edible plant - it is a member of the cabbage family and was eaten in Ireland in the past. It is a cousin of Rape and Mustard and you can use the seeds to make a mustard. WE have it here but it is not invasive. The Pineapple Weed can be used in place of Chamomile so don't worry if your Chamomile doesn't flower this year. What an adventure you are on with your new garden! Sending blessings of abundance and health. xxx

      Was it a leaf cutter? If so I think they will renew themselves. I don't have any bug problems - touch wood -but I use the old washing up liquid in water sprayed onto roses for green fly. We also use humanure to feed our trees and shrubs so they are very healthy. xx

    Hi Terri, I wonder if you could tell me the name of a plant that was close to the end of this weeks video. I'm in Canada and I have the same plant growing wild on my property. I think here we call it silver dollar, because if I'm right, the flat seed pods turn silvery white in the fall. It also has small dark pink/magenta flowers. I'm also wondering what you can do with it besides using it for decorative purposes?

    • @DanusIrishHerbGarden
      @DanusIrishHerbGarden  2 года назад +3

      Hi Hilary - we call that plant Lunaria or Honesty. There are lots of other folk names such as moonwort and shillings. In olden times it was used for wound healing and for treating lunacy!

They have an intense perfume -. Make sure that you grow them organically and don't spray with any pesticides if you want to make tea. xx
