I read through a number of comments. Many have used the word 'inspiration' to describe you. At the expense of excessive redundancy, I will do the same. I stumbled on your video by accident. I just got home from a social event. Many people were asking me about my upcoming surgery. I had to admit to them that I am concerned, if not a bit scared. I do a lot of outdoor recreation. I am concerned about my ability post surgery. I live in Regina and spend many weeks in BC pursuing adventure. I hope that will still be a part of my future. Your video spoke to me tonight. It said, "Stop worrying. Be brave." You are truly inspiring!!! Hi, Lisa. Hope all is well. GUESS WHAT! I have a plan! I want to cook for you, but for my food to taster good (to be eatable) the main and by far the most important ingredient of the recipe is that you don't eat for at least 3 days, and must be starving. The ideology of my cooking is that hunger is the best seasoning.

I just went to Vancouver (first ever visit to Canada as an adult) and found the accessibility there to be slightly worse than the US (I live in Los Angeles). This surprised me as I had expected Canada to be even further advanced in accessibility than the US. I am curious, as someone who has spent significant time in both countries, what you think in terms of accessibility in the US vs Canada. By the way I absolutely loved Vancouver and can't wait to go back, as well as visit some others parts of Canada!

    • @Keepinitwheel306

Canada does not have the ADA, which means we only rely on building codes for accessibility guidelines - which are mediocre and there isn’t really a method of checking to see if businesses etc are complying unless you file a Human Rights Complaint. This is lengthy and draining.
So to answer your question - it very much depends on the region. Bigger cities in Canada are pretty decent but small towns completely lack access. There’s a reason I go to California each winter …it’s the best place I’ve encountered.

@@Keepinitwheel306 I have been a T-12 SCI since 1981. I have owned vans since the 1980's due to desire to flyfish. Lived in a van for some 5 months up in Alaska drove all over AK up from Santa Barbara, Ca after undergraduate B.A. Been all over the western U.S. flyfishing California, Nevada, Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, Montana. Currently have a 2010 GMC Savana awd van that I bought new and converted insulated the walls, put in windows on both sides, Sportsmobile Fresno did the windows. I remote camp at lakes to flyfish 99% of the time. It is a means to an end as it gets me flyfishing as does my kayak. Currently based out of Reno/Truckee/Tahoe and flyfish NorCal area lakes from a few days to a few weeks. Living full time in a van sucks. I am talking about a basic van with no amenities not an rv/sprinter with full amenities, such as set up sink/stove/shower/toilet/ roof ac and heating/refrigerator/freezer. Having to deal with the heat is brutal in the summer. It is 105 right now in Reno, NV. Even at Lake Tahoe at 6000 feet you are roasting. I flyfish Davis Lake all over Tahoe area....even at 80 degrees lake side you are broiling inside a van and mine is set up with flip out windows in the back, windows with screens on the side, cargo door wide open and driver and passenger windows rolled down for maximum air flow .....you are roasting. In the winter it is the reverse. You just can't escape the elements freezing in the winter roasting in the summer stuck in a little box confined spaced. Then there is dealing with a porta potty having to find a place to dump it. That means either going to a camp ground and going into a nasty smelly out house and dumping or dumping it where ever anywhere. Then the issue of parking. Camp sites can charge $$$$$ $30+ a night....so you aren't saving money. It gets very boring at times even if you are at the nicest place. You are alone. No relationships. You stay at camp grounds and that sucks in various ways. People right next to you. No shower in a van? Showering outside when it is freezing? Trying to maintain cleanliness and hygiene. Shaving/ washing hair. I go 3-4-5 days in the winter and after that short time I am craving a hot shower and a shave. I get home and that 30+ minute hot shower is sooooo good washing off the stink. It is so cramped and lacks storage space. No fridge? You have to buy ice constantly and you have to go to grocery stores every 5-7 days or so and pack up and move your campsite. Diet is impacted negatively. I don't like compromising my diet. I need fresh veggies not canned. Cooking you have to break out the coleman stove or bbq. Cooking inside in the summer heat stinks and outside in the winter it stinks. So you always need a camp site you can work around that. Also, Work/job/resume career impacts. Personal relationship impacts. I can go on and on about how it sucks. Once again I am talking about a van with little to no amenities. An RV with full amenities is a different story. But as you said it isn't for everyone and to each their own. Me...I like my van for short trips up to a month max but after that I am all to happy to get home to my bed, heating and a/c and hot shower/bath.
