Super informative!! And let’s face it, a pea green rice cooker is the bomb! You’ve had enough time now…you like it better than your vintage one? I think it’s cool that the changes are progressive but they kept that retro look! Thx!

Nice! I just ordered the same one from the same shop. I'm hoping it won't take two months to get here (I'm also in Toronto) lol
Looking forward to trying it out!

@@maggiedeuitch9117 It’s great to hear from a fellow Torontonian! I hope your cooker arrives soon. I had to wait 2 months because it was out of stock so I had to go on a waiting list. But considering how durable they are, I figured the wait would be worth it.

@lheurebleueathome35 I hope so too! I've been binge-watching recipe ideas and can't wait to try them!

I have a Tatung Rice Cooker with the new shallow tray. I have a problem with using the new shallow tray to steam a side dish on it while cooking rice in the inner pot at the bottom. The rice always came out half cooked. I remember, from my childhood, my family's shallow tray in Tatung Rice Cooker also had the same shallow tray as your old Tatung Rice Cooker. The old shallow tray had the rivets for the handle attachment points, preventing the lip of the shallow tray from "sealing" to the lip of the inner pot. I suspect the new shallow tray "sealing" to the inner pot is causing limited air flow to properly cook the rice in inner pot. Have you tried to use the new shallow tray while cooking rice in inner pot? If you have the same problem as me, do you have a solution?

Hi! The manual that came with my new Tatung rice cooker advises against covering the inner pot with the inner pot lid whilst cooking. I think that, by putting the shallow tray on top of the inner pot, it acts like a lid which prevents your rice from cooking all the way through. I have always steamed food and cooked rice separately. It does take longer but I think this is a better option than trying to do both at the same time in the cooker and ending up with half cooked rice. I hope this helps! Thanks so much for watching and leaving a comment.

Probably best to just use a silicon oven mitt to get that shallow tray out. But yeah its CRAZY I'm using one that's over 30 years old, and it just keeps going.

Does anything go between the outer and inner pot? Ex: the steamer (the one with holes in it

Hello Vivian, I put the inner pot right into the outer pot without using the steamer insert. I only use the steamer with the shallow tray or if I am steaming a small amount of food in a ramekin. Thanks for asking!

@@lheurebleueathome35 thanks for clarifying! I seem to have an issue with the rice sticking to the pot. Is this normal? Not a large amount, but I am curious whether I am doing something wrong.

@@vivianhong612 Hi, I use the plastic spatula that comes with the cooker to serve the rice. The inner pot isn’t non stick so the rice does tend to stick to the pot. I try to make sure I scrape out as much rice as possible with the spatula as the plastic spatula doesn’t scratch the finish of the inner pot. There is a bit of rice residue left behind so I just soak the pot in water before washing it. Hope that helps!

Hi Thelma! It depends on where you are located. Tatung cookers are readily available in Asian countries. You can get them on eBay as well. I am located in North America and ordered my Tatung from yunhai.shop. I am not affiliated with any of these companies. I hope this helps. Thanks for commenting and asking!
