This is what Lemmings on NES should've been. I'm loving the improved graphics, music, new SFX and the addition of being able to play with both the music *_AND_* sound effects. Nice work!
Thank you ^^ I'm pretty proud of getting that last part to work honestly :P I think the skill assignment sound effect is pretty important when lemmings sometimes don't do things right away
I did not hear about that, that's cool. I probably don't have the space though, yeah. I have at least improved cursor movement in the latest version though :)
I don't know! :P Heh, for real though, I pretty much just messed around in MESEN and manually edited... a LOT of data and code, and after a lot of trial and error it just worked. :P My only real knowledge going into this came from some RUclips videos. Displaced Gamers in particular has some videos showcasing the overall process of debugging which were really helpful. Plus I picked up a bit of raw assembly knowledge over time from videos similar to those, and what I didn't pick up there, I learned from either MESEN itself or some other very helpful online resources. :) I'm genuinely surprised this got so far.
You're right! BUT I did change several gameplay mechanics along with the colors and sound, which I definitely should have made more clear. The game's still tile-based, yes, but a lot (not all) of the straight-up jank is gone, Builders are much less annoying, you can switch skills while paused (extremely important!!), and many of the dull or frustrating levels have been altered. It still takes some getting used to but I really do think it's been made significantly better. At the very least, I tried.
@@TheTomatoWatcher Yeah i tried it and still don't like the gameplay. In the original amiga game you use pause for thinking. In the old nes version you pause for thinking and catching lemmings. Now you also use it for switching skills. So this game is: pause, pause, pause... You know, the puzzles are already too hard so i don't have patience to deal with controls and clunkiness
@@TheTomatoWatcher Now i think this is surprisingly playable once you get used to it. It has couple problems: lower precision because it's tile based and pause-unpause cycle that i wrote above. I couldn't use basher in level 19(fun difficulty) after the builder bounce off his bridge. The lemming was always crossing the bridge then bashing nothing. So you have to turn the builder into basher before he build rest of the bridge. However comparing an nes game with the amiga or snes versions was unfair. This is pretty great 👌

I think that you should have used the Sunsoft sound hardware that was used in Journey to Silius and Super Spy Hunter.@@TheTomatoWatcher
Did you hear about the patch for mouse support in Maniac Mansion (NES)? But I guess that's not a possibility here if space is limited.

Grats on your first hack rom release tomateeee ✨✨✨
Oh Gods! I've killed weeks to complete Mayhem level 19 on the stock version of the game!
yoooo glad you still uploading. and hey ya!
Nice can't wait to play it
This is awesome! How'd you make this?

Yooooo
Good job but i don't think these tweaks can save the game 😂 Colors and musics are better but the gameplay is still annoying
