If anyone's wondering why so many Chinese Pokémon clones use the term "elves" to refer to Pokémon, it's because prior to the official localisation in Sun and Moon there was no canonical Chinese translation for the word "Pokémon". The most commonly used term was "Jingling" (精灵), which was a generic term used to describe small mythical creatures such as pixies, fairies, or elves. The official localised term is now "Baokemeng" (宝可梦), which is both a transliteration of the word "Pokémon" as well as the Chinese characters representing "treasure", "potential", and "dream".

And the art used for those Pokemon were so basic that they were practically the real world versions. There was nothing unique about the art that made them "Pokemon".
I’ve seen HUNDREDS of games like Capsmon Adventure over the years. My personal favorite was one based off of the Dragonball series, where each capturable unit/fighter had about 5 evolutions to fit their various iterations over the years. For instance an unevolved Krillin was from when he was a child, then there’s Krillin from when he fought Vegeta and Nappa, Krillin from when he fought Frieza, and so on.
"Nine Tailed Fox" originates from Asian mythology, and shows up in other video game franchises than just Pokemon. So to be fair, the one in that book might have nothing to do with Ninetails at all. Although it uses exactly the same colors.
It's amazing how many big-name RUclipsrs can talk about Robopon 2 while forgetting to mention how Quintet, the developers of Illusion of Gaia, ActRaiser, Soul Blazer, RoboTrek, and Terranigma, were involved in its development. Surprise surprise, there's a blatant copyright infringing ripoff of a popular game in China made by Tencent. Telling me there was shit in my toilet would be less of a surprise.
Capsmon Adventure obviously isn't copying Pokémon. It just so happens, out of infinite possibilities, that they designed a bunch of characters and monsters with the exact same designs as those from the Pokémon universe. If you randomly generate pixels that somewhat resemble people and monsters, eventually those designs will repeat and create exactly the same thing. It's just a coincidence that each of those characters who resemble Pokémon trainers were also paired with creatures which resemble the Pokémon those trainers are known to use. This is the equivalent of throwing paint at a wall until you accidentally recreate the Mona Lisa through pure coincidence, or smashing your face on a keyboard until you accidentally recreate Shakespeare's entire repertoire. The odds of this naturally occurring are astronomical. Like, at least 1 in 12 or something crazy like that.
2:47 How can you see that cover and think the only obvious rip-offs are Caterpie and Dragonair? I see blatant Hoothoot, Mareep and Latias copies, too, and I basically stopped playing Pokemon by gen 3.
I don't think you were too fair to Robopon there with the sprites comment, as it wasn't too uncommon for characters to look like pokemon characters. There were simply way too many limitations. Good examples of characters having similar aesthetics on gb/c are River King, Medarot/Medabot 1, and Survival Kids. The irony here is not lost on me either. While it is true that Robopon was inspired by pokemon, Pokemon was heavily, and I mean HEAVILY inspired by games that also inspired the rest of the monster collecting genre, namely the biggest game in Japan at the time: Dragon Quest V, and lesser but still important, Slapstick (Known in the west as Robotrek.) The creator has admitted being inspired by Dragon Quest, and it's not too hard to see Robotrek's inspiration in multiple areas, especially pokemon. Come on, a game where your allies come out of capsules and there's an evil terrorist group? I rarely see this brought up when you can see clear inspiration in every other game, especially with the time travel elements being brought into the stories of other games. But no, they're just Pokemon knock offs.
Oh boy Greg, there are plenty more bootlegs that are surfacing and making traction as running gags. Super Fighter M is a Smash bootleg featuring almost all of the Smash characters from various IPs and on top of that, has absurd amount of monetization to further criminalize the application entirely. Yet Nintendo has not taken this down, it may be some time before it is but given that it was obviously developed in China, its no surprise if it never gets taken down.
So... the defense form there is a bit of a stretch for that 500 Manga Creatures book, but I can kind of...sort of... see where you get the idea. However, the Dugtrio and Quilfish are only missing one or two minor differences from their original counterparts and are far from "inspiration" as they're absolutely more just exact copies anyways.
I used to play a Chinese Pokémon knockoff that was really fun. Can't remember the name, but people called it a Pokémon GO knockoff despite it not focusing on actually moving around or throwing balls/orbs to collect creatures

Is no one gonna talk about my boy Inuyasha at 3:12 ?
"Giant Mechanical Robots..." Thats undeniably a girl cosplaying the XM-07 Vigna Ghina from Gundam F91 on the cover and on the CD at 3:57.
"thinly veiled"? More like wrapped in cellophane.
Lets hunt monsters actually looks kinda neat
Some of those Let’s Hunt Monsters designs are pretty dope
3:13 Forget the Pokémon, is that Inuyasha?!
Robopon 2 is one of my favorite games of all time. 100% worth a playthrough.
2:47 How can you see that cover and think the only obvious rip-offs are Caterpie and Dragonair? I see blatant Hoothoot, Mareep and Latias copies, too, and I basically stopped playing Pokemon by gen 3.
Time to update the video!🤭
I don't think you were too fair to Robopon there with the sprites comment, as it wasn't too uncommon for characters to look like pokemon characters. There were simply way too many limitations. Good examples of characters having similar aesthetics on gb/c are River King, Medarot/Medabot 1, and Survival Kids. The irony here is not lost on me either. While it is true that Robopon was inspired by pokemon, Pokemon was heavily, and I mean HEAVILY inspired by games that also inspired the rest of the monster collecting genre, namely the biggest game in Japan at the time: Dragon Quest V, and lesser but still important, Slapstick (Known in the west as Robotrek.)
The creator has admitted being inspired by Dragon Quest, and it's not too hard to see Robotrek's inspiration in multiple areas, especially pokemon. Come on, a game where your allies come out of capsules and there's an evil terrorist group? I rarely see this brought up when you can see clear inspiration in every other game, especially with the time travel elements being brought into the stories of other games. But no, they're just Pokemon knock offs.
We’re not going to address that specifically the capsmon artwork is the super mystery dungeon artwork with anime characters pasted in
That book has Digimon designs in it too. I noticed Flamon and Lucemon 😅
Hey, I have that 500 Manga Creatures book... and yes it is hilarious to see the "not Pokemon" in it.
Oh boy Greg, there are plenty more bootlegs that are surfacing and making traction as running gags.
Super Fighter M is a Smash bootleg featuring almost all of the Smash characters from various IPs and on top of that, has absurd amount of monetization to further criminalize the application entirely.
Yet Nintendo has not taken this down, it may be some time before it is but given that it was obviously developed in China, its no surprise if it never gets taken down.
alright, I'll check it out .
Merry Christmas
Santa is watching
He was doing everything in his power not to laugh at that google translate description
So... the defense form there is a bit of a stretch for that 500 Manga Creatures book, but I can kind of...sort of... see where you get the idea. However, the Dugtrio and Quilfish are only missing one or two minor differences from their original counterparts and are far from "inspiration" as they're absolutely more just exact copies anyways.
Digimon need to make a Pokemon go kind of game for cell phone.
So... What is Pokémon???
Mom can we get pokemon? We have pokemon at home! "Pokemon at home"
2:45 The first thing I noticed is the Vigna Ghina armor on the bottom right.
Robopon is actually pretty dope, and I have the physical copy😂😂
At the 4:12 timestamp, an anime girl with a robot armor can be seen. That armor is actually the Vigna Ghina mobile suit from Gundam F91
I used to play a Chinese Pokémon knockoff that was really fun. Can't remember the name, but people called it a Pokémon GO knockoff despite it not focusing on actually moving around or throwing balls/orbs to collect creatures
