  • Round 1 of our "Cleaning CIB NES games" series!
The focus of this series will primarily be to address common issues with CIB NES games. And our first subject is The Magic of Scheherazade!
This copy might look clean at first, but you'll notice some old sticker residue right smack in the center of the art. We'll get that all cleaned up, as well as a few other little items common to NES boxed games!
    Tools I used:
    - Heptane
    - Qtips
    - Paper towels
    - 3.8mm security bit (gamebit)
    - Small foam block (or book) to fit inside of the box
The keys here are simple. Take your time and don't push it. Meaning work slowly, use as little liquid or force as possible, and be realistic in how much you want to remove. Sure, under magnification some things might look horrible, but remember to step back and look at the bigger picture. It's better (IMO) to hold off on over-doing the cleaning than it is to damage the item in the process.
Alright, I gotta get back to cleaning!

Hah! I figure if people want to know how to clean nearly microscopic levels of adhesive, I should show them! (being a massive germophobe doesn't hurt either!)

That’s a beautiful game you’ve got there! Awesome job with the detail work you put in to make it look its best. Great video, too. I’ll be using your tips to pretty up my CIB NES games, too! (And I appreciate the box opening tips. I hate the center crease that happens but I didn’t want to risk tearing the sides of the flap by opening at the edges.) Subscribed!

Thank you! I said for years that I wouldn't get into buying up all the old NES RPGs in CIB. But then a few appeared that I couldn't pass up. So expect to see many more in this series. Bards Tale, Ultima, StarTropics. Man oh man I love the NES!
      Thanks for the subscribe!!

I heard that they made the box taller to resemble VHS boxes

They did indeed! Game marketing in the 80s and early 90s was all about what caught the eye of the customers. Looking at you Big Box PC games!!
