    Song is: 'Right Off' by Miles Davis
    Miles and Sugar Ray shared a close friendship and drew inspiration from each other to remain at the peak of their chosen professions for many years. Right Off is from the 1970 album, A Tribute to Jack Johnson which was the soundtrack for a documentary. Miles, who regularly worked out at Gleason's Boxing Gym, wanted the music to capture the shuffling movement that boxers made in the ring with a hypnotic train like rhythm. Upon its release it was heralded as well ahead of its time, with Teo Macero, the musical director, reportedly calling the results "dynamite". In 2003 the Complete Jack Johnson sessions were released with over 5 hours of music. One of the tracks was titled 'Sugar Ray', in recognition of the Pound for Pound champion.

    As of July 1 1951, the 30-year old Robinson had been fighting for 11 years. His record at the time was 129 wins, 1 loss (LaMotta), 2 draws. I'll take a chance and say that we're unlikely to see that ever again . . .

    Ray faught so many times it is just incredible, there are really not a bulk of his welterweight fights recorded, i think more than two hundred fights total, i could be a little off but that is a lot of professional fights, 100 plus Knockouts amazing.

    Back from PED's didn't even exist… Enough power to knock you out moving backwards (Fullmer's legs were even twitching after the knockout). He was the absolute best at every aspect but he was basically perfect in every way. He wasn't like Roy Jones Jr. who was technically horrible therefore could fight even after ageing, he had the reflexes and speed like Ali but had even more power to back it up and was a ring genius (if you don't believe me watch the St. Valentines Day Massacre, he knows Lamotta had trouble making weight for fights so he makes him move a lot during the first part then he brings Lamotta's arms down with body shots then goes with vicious power shots to the head and when his arms go up he goes back to the body).

      ***** Even if he had the skills (which he showed in his fight with Trinidad. I thought he showed great technical skill there) he didn't use conventional style in his prime because he was just that gifted.

    Fighters like that back in those times had class and raw strength and toughness. Fighters and sportsmen in general now a days are pampered. For an example look at Mayweather, he constantly talks shit and about the amount of money he makes. We will never see classy, rough and tough athletes like we did in the 60s and 70s.

    Greb was great but he was dominted by Tunney and lost UD at close wt. SRR would have never lost UD to Tunney at close wt, Also, don't think Greb could punch with SRR.

    • @leaddispenser9
      @leaddispenser9 8 лет назад +1

      wasn't tunney a light heavyweight at the time. I do believe harry was a middle.. that's not an excuse but gene did have an advantage. and Harry dominated him in the first fight. tunney lost a lot of blood.

    • @nobodyaskedbut
      @nobodyaskedbut 8 лет назад +2

      But Greb lost UD less than 4 lbs under Tunney. That would have never happened to SRR. Tunney's strength was "pure boxing". He wasn't going to out box SRR in both their primes. That didn't happen to SRR in his late 30s, never mind in his prime. Age 31 SRR had LHW champ Maxim decisively beat after 13 rds before heat prostration ended the bout.

    Sugar Ray was damn Great but Ali was the Greatest. But those Suger Ray knockouts highlights are some the best combo's hooks and technique on punches I have ever seen. Even though Ali gave Sugar the choice over himself as the Greatest Ali was being slightly gracious. Its Ok because its a close call I'll still give ALi the Greatest Of All Time only because his politics what he stood for and his fight against the US Government he was stripped of his livilihood and still came back after ban and was highly effective so I put an asterisk next to ALI.

      Rockn rolla
      Dream Match SugRayRob vs Floyd at catch weight who do you like based old fight footage and seeing Floys career over the years.

    • @Da_realrocknrolla
      @Da_realrocknrolla 8 лет назад

      that would be a good fight, but i think it would be like the de la hoya mayweather fight. robinson would be pressing mayweather while mayweather will be all defensive and countering all night. but since ray robinson is better fighter then de la hoya i see him winning a very close fight. they are both really good fighters who were indestructible at lighter weights when they were in their prime. if mayweather fights robinson at a catchweight at 154 the fight would be close since sugar was old when he was fighting at heavier weight classes. but both of them in their primes at lightweight or superfeatherweight robinson wins with a knockout or if mayweather adjusts to robinsons power he might take a unaimous decision. mayweather and robinson are my all time p4p best figthers ever so i think at whatever weight class the fight will be close.

    • @BrooklynMoor
      @BrooklynMoor 8 лет назад +1

      Robinson could knock you out with both hands, Robinson had equally or quicker hands that packed a massive amount of power, Robinson had equally or better foot work than mayweather,mayweather has a defensive style that only a Robinson or Sugar Ray Leonard can pierce classic boxers that are well balanced and have athletic ability floyd has never faced in his era. Remember Sugar Ray is DeLaHoya on steroids and Speed and was grand master ring general. Fought would have to fight this man and I mean open up let his hands Go and stand toe to toe. Sugar could walk you down, or fight you going back wards I saw it on classic fights, He can eat all your leather walk thru your power and just annihilate you mexican style or just box you and appear to be running but he is just work you jaw with the jab and cross as you come in.
