Mr. Morton can get it. Stable employment, owns a house, has a cat, green thumb, and is the subject of the sentence. Big daddy energy.

This is my favorite song. Things to love:
    1. Everyone who grew up with this song will surprise their teacher by knowing what a predicate is "early"
    2. The sympathetic subject of the sentence is a passive character archetype that is commonly mocked or ignored
    3. Who does say women can't propose?
    4. The song turning much more downbeat after Mr. Morton leaves and going more upbeat when Pearl shows up.
    5. The funny foreground event at 1:53

    • @KairuHakubi
      @KairuHakubi 6 лет назад +9

yeah honestly this character would have been even better to teach about active and passive voices in writing, but that's a bit beyond schoolhouse rock's bailiwick.

The subject is a noun, that's person,
    Place or thing
It's who or what the sentence is about
And the predicate is the verb
    That's the action word
That gets the subject up and out

    He does!
    The cat stretched,
    The sun beat down,
    A neighbor chased his kid.
(Come here kid - come on!)
    Each sentence is completed when
    You know the subject did.
Mister Morton knocked on her door
    Mister Morton knocked
Mister Morton sat on her porch
Yes, he just sat and rocked
When she opened up the door he ran.

    Mister Morton rhymed pretty words
    Mister Morton rhymed
    Mister Morton was lonely
    Mister Morton was
Until Pearl showed up with a single
    Rose.
    Who says women can't propose?
    Now Mister Morton is happy
And Pearl and the cat are too

Excluding the end of this, up until that it looked like Mr. Morton is at least lonely and nowadays I’m feeling sad and lonely because a girl that I really like looks like has left my life and a bunch of other things have happened over time that made me lonely. After my parents got divorced almost 10 years ago and my dad was with another lady for a while since as they had a big family I enjoyed being around and now my dad got divorced with her almost a few years ago so that’s gone, some good friends of mine that I enjoyed hanging out with have moved out of my state over a few years ago as my life has now got small and lonely. Sometimes when it’s not a fun time I get sad being lonely, but sometimes also I do enjoy being lonely having a restful peaceful time. I refer Mr. Morton’s to nothing happy, but maybe nothing sad either as it looked like he was living an easy quiet life which I guess is the way for me to live right now although I hope for something better in the future!

spend an hour on the internet, and you'll quickly discover that WAY too many people skipped Schoolhouse Rock as kids.
humanity could benefit from basic elementary reeducation: math, grammar, spelling, finance, and manners.
everything you need in life, you learn in kindergarten. don't touch people's stuff. don't lie. don't punch someone. don't let your emotions control your actions. share. don't believe out of three apples and one orange, the apples are better just because they're all the same--oranges are just as good. wear a hat and gloves in cold weather. eat sweet stuff very sparingly. one is enough for anybody. no cutting in line. respect your elders, even though you don't always agree with them. reading is better than TV.
AND...remember to laugh, smile, and get outside for some sunshine, because a good day's work earns you some rest, fun, relaxation!! :)

Pearl divorced Mr. Morton and TOOK half his money. For some reason even though they were no longer married, Mr. Morton kept TAKING alimony from him every month. Mr. Morton says I should have got a hooker - you don't have to pay them after you are done.
