This is real advice. I'm in the middle of a total planner audit/overhaul. I wrote down what I wanted from my planner and compared that to what I was doing or have tried. I saw that the calm and focused feeling I wanted when I opened my planner was not going to come from the bright fun colors, or predetermined layouts of books. I had to go to muted colors and layouts that clicked with my brain, not my "personality." I'm actually manifesting a part of myself that I hadn't been focusing on, and the new approach is giving me what I really need from my planner.
I can relate to this so much! What clicks with our brains can sometimes be completely different than what’s “pretty”. Really getting down to what works for you and why it works for you is so helpful in creating the person you know you can be. ☺️
So true. That’s why you see so many videos with 15 different planners for 25 different things and I’m like how have you planned your life before covid? Cause some of these are unnecessary to be doing just to get a view.I have one rings and disc for personal and business but I also have dot grid for creative planning and stalogy for sermon notes.
I wonder the same things, too, especially when all the different planners have the same exact information in them 😆 But some people just really find joy in switching planners regularly, and that’s okay too.
Although I'm comfortable with my current system and planning style, this video helped me understand why. During 2024, I switched from primarily using a disc system (HP) to bookbound TRP. I was confused at first but I began understanding why at the end of this week, and your video helped me seal the conclusions I made. I look forward to future videos on the series you mentioned.
Hi Kim. I just subscribed. You are so delightful. Love your way of analyzing planner needs. I haven’t bought anything for 2025 yet so this is timely for me.
I think after buying every planner on the market - I switched to rings the last three months so I can include everything I need and it has to be undated because I am so inconsistent in planning - this works so well for me I made my perfect planner. That said - I miss the tomoe river paper . Now going into 2025 . I’m struggling ……..I am doing it again . I’ll use this video to figure some things out . I am so tired of being indecisive 😂
I would say you’ve uncovered some key points for yourself - customizable, undated, & TRP. Like @AvaGld2309 said, there are some shops that sell undated TRP inserts and there’s always the option to buy packs of TRP (from Jetpens, Amazon, etc.) to print the inserts yourself. I think you’re well on your way to settling on the perfect planner for you!
I love this! I’ve evolved over the years and have been each of those planner types at some point or another. Thank you for your videos. They are always so helpful and inspiring. 😊
Great video with fabulous tips and ideas. Believe I have found my planner system that works best for me (rings). Have surpassed FOMO phases/stages and using what makes me happy. Such an awesome feeling indeed. Have a great week.TFS!
I've been doing an audit before I saw this video so I feel like I am on the right track. I am a functional planner. I figured out that if I have decor, I don't take my planner seriously. Now My journal is where I will get a lil fancy....changing the pen ink every few days😂 I need a page per day, and I need a weekly for my and my mother's appointments and I need a monthly. I need to be able to see them easily at the same time, so that I can Map some things onto each section. And others I won't need to- like my bills. So I think I will buy a trial of personal DIYfish inserts. I will add sections later but im getting my main stuff out the way now. Hobo weeks is my journal. Then I'll go from there🤷🏾♀️I am so ready for planner peace. I'm tired of planner hopping and overconsuming.
I think it can be pretty intuitive to take mental inventory of how we can make our systems better. I know I sometimes stall at following through with making changes. 😆 So having these reminders are really helpful.
For my planner audits, I pay attention to any things that I regularly add to my existing pages - a place for a weekly inspirational quote, top 3 tasks for the week, weekly health goal, etc. I also know that I like having project pages in the back that I can use for tracking my progress through big projects and also to "shop" for my monthly and quarterly tasks. So I build those things in, either buying a planner that enables me to do those things or I create and add them myself.
That sounds like a great setup. I’m still figuring out how to incorporate lists for monthly/quarterly tasks in a way that will help my brain remember to refer to them. It’s all a work in progress!
@@MartinMadeCo I have played around with the planners that "filter" things from a larger list into the particular time slots available and have also read about the concepts of choosing activities from a menu rather than having them hard-wired into specific time slots. For 2025, I may play with a fold-out (like a tip-in, but one that attaches to the outer edge of the page instead of to the center fold) that extends beyond the page so I can open it up to see my monthly or quarterly action lists each week or month, then figure out which ones fit into the time slots available. Afterward, I will fold the master list back into its hidden place until the next week or month. In theory, I like the idea....🤫

Yes! It’s so important to understand why something appeals to us at all. Especially when we’re easily tempted to buy new planners we don’t need 😆

Thank you so much Kathy! So glad I could help you along the journey 😊

Amazon sells TRP, and Sterling Ink sells it for rings, too.

Thanks Angie! And that FOMO phase is real 😆

@LP-ck6qx That sounds like a great idea! Do you have an Instagram page where we can get a peek of that in action for 2025?
I just found your channel and this was a great video
Thank you so much Melanie!
