And I won't even mention "Alfred Hitchcock Presents", Boris Karloff, and of course the Original "Twilight Zone" with Rod Serling. Wow! So sorry to hear about Robert Vaughn! Even long after his "Man from U.N.C.L.E." days, he still had a commanding presence in such movies as one of my all time modern favorites, "Black Moon Rising" with budding Actor Tommy Lee Jones.

Between the Man From UNCLE and Sean Connery as James Bond, the 60s were the spy series and movies heyday (lets not forget I Spy). Today they look technologically unsophisticated because that was 50 years ago but they really were ahead of their time back then often showcasing the future plot wise even if the computers were just some silver painted cardboard boxes with arbitrary flashing lights. Wasn't till I studied the martial arts later in adolescence that I realized you cannot karate chop somebody on the back of the neck and knock them out like Napoleon Solo did. But Napoleon and Illya were our generation's Holmes and Watson. Napoleon Solo was unapologetically debonaire and Illya Kuryakin was the eternal stoic pragmatist. Kuryakin back then looks like what Macauley Culkin should have grown up to look like if he did not have demented parents who traumatized him, had worked out and had taken some B vitamins to prevent premature aging.

+Andrew J. Lennertz BS, NLP As a 28 year old, don't know where this unsophisticated comment comes from, The older Bond movies look more awesome than modern ones because of the LACK of fancy gadgets. It really put the resourcefulness of Bond front and center.
Thanks to Nick at Night, I grew up watching Get Smart, Man From U.N.C.L.E, and Munsters (yeah, not same, but my third favorite). Never have I seen anything on TV that equaled these great shows. It even made me appreciate the older Bond movies.
At least the 2015 U.N.C.L.E movie was way better than the Get Smart movie that came out a few years ago. Yeah it was funny, but it kinda fell short on what made the show awesome.

What amazes me is that Robert Vaughn plays a villain role in Superman III and Henry Cavill who plays The Man Of Steel plays the role that Robert Vaughn plays. Go figure.

+George Vieto Amazingly too, Richard Donner who directed Superman: The Movie also directed a few episodes of Man From UNCLE. IIRC, he also directed the pilot.

I did not that Richard Donner was the director of the Man From U N C L E series since I was a young lad living in Panama when the show played on Panamanian television.

George Vieto Donner started out directing episodic TV. "The Twilight Zone", "Get Smart" and "Gilligan's Island" are among his work.

The new Man from U.N C.L.E. movie made a huge mistake Not featuring the original two U.N.C.L.E men, Nepoleon Solo & ILLYA Kuryakin in the remake movie a few years ago. Just a cameo would have done wonders!
My take was to see ILLYA take Mr. Waverly's position and Nepoleon work for him!! 😂 A missed opportunity to have made that movie great!

UK post-punk/indie band The Times, did a version of the theme on their "Go! with the Times" album (recorded in November 1980, but not released until 1985).

    Open Channel D.
As a kid in the mid 60s I had the Uncle toy guns, badges, ID Card and a Thrush rifle. We had a lot of fun, right up until it was time to run home to get to the TV set to watch Batman.
TNT Cable Channel in the late 1980s thru early 1990s used to have TMFU re-runs on around 5 am on various days. I'd set the VCR to record them hoping to get all the episodes. Unfortunately, a lot of times, I'd end up getting some crappy old movie!!!! They didn't run the TMFU as listed or some other show started or ended during the time it was supposed to run.
But, thanks to Amazon, I got the whole boxed series a few years ago.

This version of the theme ie season 2 or maybe 3 was the best, almost early prog rock. It would have been perfect for Emerson Lake and Palmer to adapt. RIP Robert Vaughn, Keith Emerson and Greg Lake.
