Neill Blomkamp doing a Robocop movie would have been a perfect fit
I was literally about to say this…
I’ve been saying it for years to be honest!
Sums it up very well. Interestingly enough, District 9 is sort of a story about "Apartheid" South Africa 🇿🇦, there was an area called District 6 where people were forcibly removed due to their colour. District 9 was extremely deep, his best film
Rewatched district 9 last week, and it’s aged like a fine wine.
My favorite movie of all time
Only seen District 9 and Gran Turismo (which was fine) but I absolutely adored District 9 need to see more of his work immediately!
My Ranking:
4: District 9 - I didnt really like the style, the story was told.
3: Chappie - Chappie was a really cool character and it was really brutal.
2: Elysium - Great post-apocalyptic vision and critique to society.
1: Gran Turismo - I really loved the story, because I like e-sports and the story felt too constructed to actually be based on a true story.
Haven’t seen any of these, but love listening to your reviews.
Not even district 9???
@@kgnightcry8118 is it worth checking out?
Just so everyone knows, I really like and enjoy all these movies
1: District 9
2: Chappie (wasn’t aware people didn’t actually like this movie, I really really enjoyed and rated Sci-Fi Pinocchio)
3: Elysium
4: Gran Turisomo
Sean, in the spirit of Gran Turismo, you should do your top 10 favorite sports movies!
I agree
I 2nd it
Loved Gran Turismo. Can't stop thinking about it
I need to catch up on his work.
1.District 9
2.Elysium- a very underrated movie. Great action, killer cast and some memorable albeit heavy handed ideas and concepts. Everyone says they want originality and ignored this one.
3.Grand Turismo-A good old fashioned drama with great aesthetics and racing scenes, star turns for Harbour and Bloom and a great soundtrack held back by too many supporting characters and a slightly overlong finale.
Chappie was my first Neill Blomkamp film and I really dug it. I didn’t go into it thinking it would be terrible or great, but I thought it was pretty good.
I’ve only seen his sci-fi films and I have them ranked in the same order as you. I’m still hoping we get a sequel to district 9 as that is easily his best film
Cody Leach and Jeremy Jahns have always been big fans of Elysium, it's their favorite Blomkamp film.
“if we put them in a blender, we’d have problems”- Sean 2023
1. Elysium (2013) 9.5/10
2. District 9 (2009) 9/10
3. Chappie (2015) 8/10
4. Demonic (2021) 2/10
I’m excited to check out Gran Torismo (2023)
Elysium that high and over District 9 is insanity
There’s not much difference in his scoring though…
Elysium is also my favourite Blomkamp film!
SO glad you watched these! I feel they don’t deserve the amount of hate these movies get. For me personally I think NB’s idea of a dystopian future looks so accurate in D9, Chap and Elys. Absolutely loved them! Can you make Cody watch these too please 😂
one of the rankings I was very interested to see.
Big fan of Blomkamp. Always interested in his ideas and how he puts it on screen. I always thought Elysium was underrated.
Same! People ask for original movies and ignore something interesting like this. It's really cool.
I also find Elysium to be underrated to be honest!
1: Gran Turismo
2: District 9
3: Elysium
4: Chappie
Much like with the first Kick-Ass or the original Ghostbusters I was late to the party when it came to District 9, I don’t think I saw it for the first time until like 5, 6, 7 years after it was released, and so it didn’t quite have that same groundbreaking impact on me that it did for so many other people, but I did still enjoy it
I really like Chappie and Elysium, not perfect movies by any means but not your standard Hollywood stuff. I really wish that we could've seen his direct sequel to Aliens with Ripley, Hicks. Newt, Bishop returning and erasing everything else. I think he would've done a great job with Robocop as long as the studio let him go hard R.
Hey Sean, since you did a list ranking your favorite movies of the 2010’s I think another list you could do is your favorite movies of the early 2000’s
Love the videos Sean!
Hey Sean. Is it possible for you to do a Ridley Scott Ranking when Napoleon comes out?
That I've seen
4) Elysium - pretty disappointing weak allegory with some cool action sequences .
3) Chappie - pretty underated. I love sharlto Copley as chappie, but it's too much inspired by other sci fi like robocop and short circuit.
2) Gran turismo - Really great racing sequences maybe a little bit to generic sports drama of a script but had big emotional moments to as well as well as authentically replicating the feel of a raceway and playing a racing game like GT.
1) District 9 - really great sci fi concept you really learn to root for shartos charecter and exploring interspecies relationship and how they have troble coexisting is very interesting.
Remember watching district 9 in the theater. Knew after watching it'd be scifi top 10 on my list. I at least watch it once every year
"Gran Turismo" is one my most anticipated movies of 2023, so here is my personal ranking of Neill Blomkamp movies:
1. District 9 (2009)
2. Gran Turismo (2023)
3. Chappie (2015)
4. Elysium (2013)
5. Demonic (2021)
Will you be doing a Hayao Miyazaki film ranking with his new film coming soon?
Loved gran turismo
I loved it too. It was a great movie
I never seen any of these movies but I did seen Chappie (2015) though and I really did enjoy that movie and it’s one of my favorite movies that Neil Druckmann ever done at least for me Sean Chandler bro 😎
1. District 9
2. Chappie
3. Gran Turismo
4. Elysium
5. Demonic
I have only watched Chappie and Elysium. Will wait for Gran turismo on streaming
I find Neill Blomkamp to be highly underrated to be honest.
For me, my favourite film of his would have to be Elysium! There’s just something about it…
I didn’t realise Blomkamp has only directed 5 films in his career?
I’d love to see him direct more sci-fi films, and I’d totally be down in seeing him direct a Robocop film!
Gran Turismo is the biggest surprise of 2023. I never expected it to be as good as it was.
*Ancient* *mythology* *inspired* *George* *Lucas*
When Lucas was still in the pitching stage for Star Wars, he had a vision. He wanted to explore the motifs behind mythology and see if they were still accurate in the present day.
“The great thing about mythology is it’s an oral medium-up until they learned how to write. But before that with Homer and everybody, they would just tell the story,” Lucas told Charlie Rose. “It again, told the people what the rules are. It’s the same thing as a church-all of the things we got that make us a community, that we all believe in and share, is what they use to go from a family to a tribe, and from a tribe to a city, and then to a country. … I said, ‘I wonder if people still think the way they thought then.’ I think I proved they do.”
Diving deeper, Lucas also explains how the motifs in the films are popular themes in everyday life that everyone gravitates to.
“It’s about good and evil, but heroes-what makes a hero, what’s friendship, what’s the idea of sacrificing yourself for something larger. They’re all really basic things and you say ‘we don’t have to make a movie about that, it’s very obvious,’ but it’s actually not. It’s not that obvious to a lot of people unless you have somebody tell you every generation that this is what our country believes in.”
*‘Star* *Wars’* *drew* *from* *organized* *religion*
During the creative process, Lucas also noticed how many people across the world have the same ideals, regardless of differing religious views. He desired to create something that all people could identify with, no matter their preference.
“With Star Wars, it was the religion, everything was taken and put into a form that was easy for everybody to accept, so it didn’t fall into a contemporary mode where you could argue about it. It went everywhere in the world because they could say ‘oh, the things I believe in are the same as that.’ Most people in the world believe exactly the same thing.”
Lucas was fascinated by the fact that although many religions have similar themes, the specifics of each are what keeps people divided. He explained this realization later in the interview.
It was something I did when I was about eight years old, when my mother, she was putting me to bed. I said ‘mom, if there’s one God, why are there so many religions?’ And it’s a question that’s fascinated me ever since.”
Anyone who watches Star Wars films today can see the clear similarities between the ways of the “Force” and the world’s most practiced religions.
Hey @SeanChandlerTalksAbout
I have 2 random questions:
1. Who is your favorite composer?
2. Do you think Covid is still a reason for bad movies or is it only bad writing?
Studios can no longer blame Covid because Covid has been over for years…
It all comes down to bad writing, weak CGI despite a big budget and a lack of style in the direction.
My ranking:
4. Chappie
3. Gran Turismo
2. Elysium
1. District 9
Never seen “Demonic”.
First! Cant wait to watch gran turismo next week (hopefully)
Besides Demonic. All of his films at least have the level of being purely entertaining. He might not give you the 100% you want, but you can expect to be enjoying the worlds and setups he dabs his fingers into.
Honestly I used to think that Neill Blomkamp would’ve been a good choice for the MCU Inhumans movie before it got cancelled.
Wish Neil Alien 5 and Halo actually happened
Sooooo many projects that sounded promising then were cancelled. Such an interesting career.
.I actually really enjoyed Chappie. One of my favorite films of the last decade.
I love chappie it's easily my fav Neil Blomkamp movie 10 out of 10 absolute blast start to finish.
I love Chappie soooo much but I understand your opinion
District 9 will always be his best film for me personally, the perfect combination of sci-fi and action together while exploring a social commentary on humanity.
Might see gran turismo at some point
I fucking love the Kills Shirt ❤
They gave them out a few at the press screening. The guy in front of my won one. But he left it in the theater and never came back.
So I didn’t want to waste it haha
@@SeanChandlerTalksAbout damn I wish I got one, I'm a huge fan of HKills and the short just ooowee
@@SeanChandlerTalksAboutThat guy could watch the video and he “hey wait a minute, that’s mine!”
Do a Martin Scorsese or Ridley Scott ranking next!!
Scorsese is next. I've already started watching the movies and writing notes.
